Thanks for the reply, meatless :-) I'm actually surprised by how expensive the hotels in Montreal seem to be - I'm trying to find a hotel in a good location for a reasonable price. Anyone have any suggestions?

According to one site, there's an Econolodge downtown:
Rate Range: 106.21 - $124.95
(CN381) Econo Lodge Downtown
2060 rue St-Dominique
Montreal, QC, CA
We're going to Ithaca next month and I was shocked at how expensive room rates are there too.

This looked VERY cool until I saw they have a cat in the house.... my husband is allergic, no way we can stay there. :-(
The econolodge could be a way to go. Is it in a good location? I don't know Montreal at all. THanks so much for the suggestions!!!

I don't know much about Montreal hotels, but as far as restaurants go, you have to try Aux Vivres (4631 St-Laurent blvd). All vegan and delicious!

Rahkoon- it's pretty good. We've got about half a dozen vegetarian restaurants and a number of places that are veg-friendly. But I don't eat anywhere outside of that "list", the city as a whole isn't terribly veg-conscious and I encounter a lot of "do you eat fish" even when I say I'm vegan. Which amazes me because this city supposedly has more university degrees per capita than anywhere else in the world. There's a few really good health food stores too. Do you know where you're staying in Ottawa? I could help you out a bit better. Let me know if you want more info. :)

Kill_Uncle, I'm not familiar with Montreal yet, I only went there twice on vacation. That's also my point : I'm not sure where I'll be moving to, because I don't have an idea what the city is like when you live there! I've heard Le Plateau was a nice place, but that's about all I know for now :-/
That's awesome Meatless! Do you have the Commensal restaurants in Ottawa? I remember eating there a few times when I visited eastern Canada.
I know the address I'll be staying at (my boyfriend's aunt) but I have no idea where it is concretely. Any info would be welcome, indeed! I'm afraid I'll be really lost when I arrive there.
Thanks a lot to you guys !

No, there are no Commensal restaurants here (but their products are sold at some health food stores). There are a couple of similar, buffet pay for what you take restaurants (The Table www.thetablerestaurant.com/ and The Green Door www.thegreendoor.ca,) a Thai restaurant (Sacred Garden Vegetarian Thai Cuisine), a quasi-Indian place (www.perfectionsatisfactionpromise.ca ), and a place that is omnivorous, but has a 100+ item vegan menu (www.sogoodfood.com,) and a veg cafeteria in the ByWard Market called Peace Garden. Wild Oat Bakery in the glebe also has a cafe and is all-veg. There's a good veg menu at Horn of Africa downtown, and a few other places. Happycow has a good Ottawa listing, but I can't vouch for the restaurants on it I haven't been to. ;)
