Next time I'm in the Table on Holland, I'll ask for you, Adams.
Barrhavan is south west. It's growing like crazy out here. To get here you go straight out Prince of Wales, past Huntclub, past the cows. I'm be happy to move closer into town; it's just more convenient.
Have you ever eaten at the Green Door?

Have you ever eaten at the Green Door? Ok, I know where that is then. :)
Yeah, I've been to the Green Door; I even have their cookbook. I find it a lot like the Table, except its usually a little busier, and the food is a little better. It's in a pretty good neighborhood for business I think. St. Paul’s probably adds a lot of customers. I was there two weeks ago actually, and I ate a ton of food. :D When I was there I saw three (3!) people wearing fur in The Green Door. I was shocked! That's a pretty high count for any restaurant let alone a veggie one. Like usual, they were all "old" people... what do those guys think they're doing anyways?
*shakes fist at the elderly* :dunce: :p

a vegan friend of mine lives in Guelph, i forwarded her the info for the conference :)
while i'm here, does anyone have any info, suggestions, etc, on getting funds to start a small business? myself and 2 other women are trying to start up a photography studio in Stratford and need cash but all 3 of us have poor credit ratings, we have someone else trying to get a line of credit for us to use but the bank's being really slow about giving him an answer so it doesn't look too good. any kind of grant info, etc would be appreciated, or if anyone has ideas we might have overlooked. we need like 10K. blah

this is my second time writing this> VB's server buggered up when I pushed enter or it went off line- anyways...
If you already have a business plan there should be a local CBCS (Canadian Business Service Centre) somewhere around your area- (i think there in every major city). They should be able to help direct you to the people that make loans happen- If you or anyone of your people involved are under 30- more loans and subsidies are available to you (Currently in Ontario they Love young entreprenuers).
Last year I was in college for entrepreneurship- since then I've written 3 business plans and haven't presented any yet (too risky of a gamble and really not overly feasible) but the new one is looking good so far!
anyways -->here's a link of links in Ontario- hope they are somewhat helpful.

awesome, thanks so much. i'll check it out for sure. 2 of us are under 30, i was hoping there'd be something, but we're not technically partners yet. the older gal owns the business and has for a couple years, registered and all, just never had money to open a studio, she works out of community centres and scrapbooking stores and stuff like that. i think she's waiting until we have money to get it going before she changes the registration to include us as partners. so far all the business loans and lines of credit have required the majority owner of the business to apply but she has the worst credit of us all which is saying a lot.
anyway i'd heard that they were discontinuing a lot of the funding for small businesses this year :( so we'd better get our butts in gear before we lose out huh
thanks again, i'll update our progress if anyone's interested.
if any of you have family or friends in the Stratford area you can let them know a new studio will appear soon so be patient. our only studio in town was closed (where all 3 of us worked) and a lot of people are pissed off, to the point that they've been writing letters to the editor in the local paper to complain about it. so from the looks of things we have no lack of clientelle :)

Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival Volunteers
Toronto and Region Conservation
http://www.trca.on.ca/events/volunteer
Apply by: Mar 3, 2004
Start date: Mar 6, 2004
Location: Stouffville & Vaughan (2 locations), Ontario, Canada
The annual Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival is happening
March 6 until April 12 at Bruce's Mill Park in Stouffville
(at Warden & Stouffville Rd.) and the Kortright Centre
for Conservation in Vaughan (at Major Mackenzie and
Highway 400).
Canada's economy depends on our forests -- for sustainable
forestry as well as "non timber" products such as maple
sugar. But our forests are threatened by acid rain, climate
change and poorly managed commercial forestry. This is an
opportunity to build awareness of the maple syrup harvest
as an historical and sustainable activity -- and about the
importance of our forests to our health and well-being.
It's also a lot of fun!
Volunteer Positions:
We need volunteers on weekends and weekdays from
10 am until 2:30 pm, or later if possible, to wear period
costumes or red and black checkered jackets, while
demonstrating maple tapping and sugar shack facilities,
providing service and directions to visitors, and helping
out around the sites.
This is fun, outdoor work, and requires warm winter dress.
We welcome volunteers of all ages, although youths (under
16 years old) must be accompanied by their legal guardian.
This is a great family volunteer activity, but fun for
individuals too. We'll provide you with all the training
you need.
Position Requirements:
* ability to work independently;
* customer service skills;
* own Transportation;
* willingness to work outdoors;
* good verbal communication skills;
* willingness to undergo a police check.
If you would like to take part as a volunteer at this fun and
historical festival, please contact Chris Benjamin at
416-661-6600, x. 5360 or volunteer@trca.on.ca

:( Sorry to hear that LF.
Is there any market for it in any of the nearby towns or villages?
AuroraLily

Sorry LF, how close it Waterloo/Kitchener?
LadyFaile
02-02-04, 04:35 AM
well unfortunately i don't drive so commuting isn't an option right now.
it's, i dunno, less than an hour from Kitchener anyway, not sure exactly how far, but not very.
we're gonna keep looking into it though, we may still be ok. we just have to rethink the whole thing and try to make ourselves more unique and stand out. my partner is fairly well known and has clients already so we might be ok, i hope. there's a lot more risk involved now though.

From April 17th to the 25th, hundreds of activists in over 20 cities across
North America will be uniting in their fight to shut down Huntingdon Life
Sciences (HLS), one of the largest animal experimentation labs on this
planet. On April 23rd Toronto will be joining in this struggle with a
demo that will be targeting Sumitomo Canada.
Sumitomo has a long history of involvement with HLS. The SHAC campaign has
documented evidence that Sumitomo has been dealing with HLS for over 15
years. Besides conducting experiments on animals they also ship primates
from Mauritius to suffer and die in labs all over the world, including
HLS.
It is time to stand up and resist corporations like Sumitomo and demand
that they end their relations with Huntingdon! Together we will shut down
Huntingdon Life Sciences!
The uncompromising and abolitionist approach taken by SHAC & the
achievements and successes that this international grassroots campaign has
produced is unparalled within the animal liberation community. For more
information about this awesome campaign visit SHAC America’s and the UK’s
website at: http://www.shacamerica.net or http://www.shac.net

my sister is a germaphobe and the whole SARS epidemic is freaking her out. i think there's more of a chance i'll fall down the stairs, roll out the door and get hit by lightning. no fear here. i'm not even worried about west nile. i'm worried about all the looks of horror i'll be getting when i allow the mosquitos to have my blood. i'm a freak.
i have a friend who lived in Windsor. i soooo feel for you.
i'm the luckiest girl 'cause i have xin vego - an almost vegan chinese restaurant in niagara falls. they make the best mock chicken balls. mmmmmm..... with sweet and sour sauce! i'll be there tomorrow in fact. it'll be baby's first time. can't wait!!
Hi Raine,
Whoa, I'm totally envious of you! We used to have this awesome strictly vegeterian (with vegan options) Chinese food place here in London, which is pretty non-vegeterian friendly... Anyway, they made these awesome mock chicken drumsticks and chicken balls, and mock everything it was awesome... then a sad, sad day hit this town, and they closed down... craving Ching Sum right now... eat some yummy vegeterian Chinese food for me please!!! :)

I'm in SW Ontario.. does anyone know where to buy Seitan? I've tried the HFS & a few different grocery stores.. but no luck. I just really want to try it.
Hi Skarrlett,
You're from London, right? I think one place that you may want to try is Quartermaster in Wortley Village. They don't necessarily have the best selection and they may not have it, but they can at least tell you were to get it... Hope that helps...
Hey, I'm from London too! Small world!

I'm from Windsor...but had to move to Regina for my job. I never thought I'd say this but boy, do I miss the humidity! My hair is flat all the time!
Hi to you Londoners. I went to Fanshawe and my mom is now in London.
Hey MollyCat! I'm going to UWO right now, but I have a couple friends who are going to UW in Windsor right now. Its pretty humid here right now!

Hey Kids!
I'm new to this messageboard, and I wanted to say hello to my fellow canucks first! I'm in Cambridge, ON - not particularly a veg-friendly town, but I'm making due quite nicely.
I'm trying to complete the transition to a Vegan diet. After 10 years of being a lonely lacto-ovo-vegetarian, I need some support from my own kind! Any word of advice/wisdom would be most welcome!
Go Leafs Go! (not really a hockey fan, just seemed like an appropriate South-West Ontario way to sign off!)
