Shamus: My grandfather was born in Huntsville. I visited there with my family about 8 years ago. Nice little town. You're so lucky to have the park so close by. Where do live now?

I"m glad to here that Raine. What's in like in TO these days? Are people wearing masks, talking about it or just going about their lives as usual?

I didn't see one person wearing a mask and we went to a club at Spadina & College - right around China town. Everyone seemed really relaxed about it. The club was at its max capacity and there were people lined up outside waiting to get in.

I foster cats and right now the kitten season is hitting us hard. Is there anyone here that is interested in adopting a cat? This is my third time posting this link on the VB, but persistance is a virtue :D. I know most of us are living in homes over-run with furry friends, but think about it and recommend us to your friends. Make every second question you ask today, tomorrow, etc. be "are you interested in adopting a cat?" THANKS.

I currently live in Kingston. I came here in 1998 to go to school. I hope to move in the next few years, when my fi finds her career job.

What’s your Grandfather’s name, if you don’t mind my asking?

I wish I had more space where I currently live, then I could say yes.

Shamus: My grandfather's name was Neville Onyett. He lived ther with his 3 brothers and sister and parents. His father was a roofer. The sister's family still lives there.
What are you studying in Kingston?

Hmm, I don’t know that family. My father might though. I swear he knows everyone in town.

I just graduated with a BA in Geography. I plan to be a stay-at-home father though, after which I would like to get into furniture making.

Shamus: I'll try to find out my great grandparents names.
Congratulations on your graduation. I think that's awesome about being a stay-at-home father. All the psychology research that I've read states nothing but positive benefits for all involved: children, mother and father. Enjoy it. Huntsville seems like a great town to raise a family.

Good old May flies! I’ve got some pictures I took of a dragonfly coming out of its “water” shell, around here somewhere. I’ll see if I can find them.

that website is from my home town of North Bay. the shads are so awful there. every year like clockwork. one day you'll wake up and look out the window and the buildings and roads will be black with shadflies. and all you can do is shrug and say "shadfly season's here"
it's when they all start to die and the city stinks like rotting fish that it gets nasty.

woo hoo.. it's about time. I'm happy I work in an air conditioned office... except they seem to have the heat on today for some unknown reason.
:D

Not good for me. I work in a factory and the only air cooling we have are fans and at 32-34 they just don't cool the air at all. I'm going to fry this week. :(

it's like living in someone's armpit, this humidity is awful.
i walk to work and back, about 20-25 minutes each way, by the time i get to work i feel like i need another shower already, by the time i get home i feel like i bathed in filth all day.

gross.

and of course, working in a clothing store, we're supposed to wear the product we sell which means layering. we're always supposed to layer. i have to wear a long sleeved sweatshirt all day at work. good thing the mall is air conditioned but it's still wrong. wrong wrong wrong. i wear it open with a tank under it so i carry the sweatshirt there and put it on when i start my shift so it's not too bad but i sure feel dumb carrying a sweatshirt around in this weather

it's ok, we're gonna have a storm i think cause my ankles are aching like you wouldn't believe. that should help the humidity i hope :(

Time to revive this thread. Does anyone order things on line that they can't get at the stores around them? I read about the products discussed here and feel envious that we dont' have them around here.

I've ordered a number of things from http://www.pangeaveg.com/ and http://veganmercantile.com/
I can get most of my stuff at Loblaws/Zehr's but I just bought some sunscreen and bug spray from Vegan Mercantile.
Pangea is pretty good and they've got a wide selection of food items that you can order.

I highly recommend both of them.

i just purchased Butter Not! from vegan essentials. i give it a two thumbs up. Hubby and baby seem to enjoy it, which leaves me happy, happy, happy. not overly impressed with its consistency. will not add as much water to pouch #2.

RE ordering vegan items:
any of you hear of the Heritage Festival up in North Bay every August long weekend?
anyway there are always tons of tents there where all kinds of merchants set up for the weekend, you can buy all kinds of cool crap at low prices during the festival.
this year there was a tent with hemp products, and he was sharing the tent with another merchant selling wiccan and pagan items, books and necklaces, that sort of thing, and also doing tarot readings. neato!
anyway both of them are from Sudbury and both gave me their cards with phone number etc. the pagan woman has a website but the hemp guy is still setting his up. he said though that i can call and order anything i want and he'll ship it. his prices really are the best! my mom bought me a pair of shoes there, i think they were 40 bucks. and a hempola lip balm for $2 which is normally like 4 or 5 at the health food store.
the hemp sandals they had there are the most hippy-ish looking things i've ever seen! very cool! my size was sold out though so i bought brown clog style shoes. the soles are partially recycled rubber and the upper is all hemp. they don't look wierd and hippy-ish though, they just look like brown canvas shoes.

i'll see if i can get the webcam working and take a pic. if anyone wants the phone number for either store pm me, i don't feel right posting it for all the world to see, but i'll dig out the pagan woman's website addy and post it later

I went to that festival a couple of years ago. Watched the strong man competition. :D

That's pretty cool that they were set up there.
