Hey everyone,
I live in Toronto, and my BF's birthday is coming up. We're going out to dinner with some friends, (me being the only Veghead) and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good restauant to go to, where we'll all be able to eat. They really want Seafood  but I don't want to be stuck with a side salad. Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

Well, everyone is able to eat at a vegan restaurant, but I know that's not what you meant. :)
What about a place like Maggie's? www.maggies.ca
Chinese always seems to work for mixed company. You could take him to the corner of Dundas and Spadina, blindfold him and have him stick a finger out, spin him around, and go to whichever restaurant he ends up pointing at. It could be a new tradition.

Or Dundas and Bathurst... three vegetarian Chinese restaurants in one block! :D
Thanks for the replies, I've never heard of Maggies, but there menu looks delicious :pibo: and the blind folding and picking is a cute/fun idea too! Thanks, I think I have a good clue to what we'll do. :D
The Toronto Vegetarian Association has a new youth group!
There are two aspects to the youth group:
1. We hold networking/info sharing sessions to give people in high school and university a chance to offer support and share ideas about running a vegetarian/animal rights group at one's school.
2. We have monthly educational and social events for vegetarians and those interested in vegetarianism. These events are held in the GTA, and are designed for people aged 16-20. Examples of events include cooking classes, discussion panels, speakers, and poetry workshops. We've dubbed these events "V-Dot, Toronto's Vegetarian Youth"
We'd love to hear feedback about the group and are very open to suggestions. We're here for you, so use us!
Our first V-Dot event:
WHEN: Wednesday, October 18th, 6:30-9:30pm
WHAT: This theme of this one is “Vegetarian Self-Defence”. It will be a discussion about answering stupid questions regarding vegetarianism followed by a fun movie. Free vegan snacks will be provided!
RSVP: or get more info (such as location) by emailing youth@veg.ca or calling (416) 544 - 9800

Really? that's cool. I may join, since I live in Mississauga....
Last year, my F.S. (Family Studies) teacher was very critical about me being a vegetarian. I don't like her very much, either... -.-'
And I said I was a vegetarian because of my religion. Which is not true. I'm a vegetarian because I want to help save animals that are dying all over the world, now.
Poor chickens... :(
Ugh, that's annoying when adults think they know everything and use their positions of authority to back up their incorrect info. Sometimes it works well to present people with facts. Some good fact sheets on veg nutrition or a Why Vegan booklet might shut her up.
I sent you a msg about the Toronto Vegetarian Association's upcoming event. Let me know if you'd like more info.

Any veg*ans from Kingston crazy for the agedashi tofu at Take sushi restaurant on Princess?
...Any veg*ans from Kingston? At all? Bueller?
beatricious - Queen's university in Kingston has at least one animal rights group, but maybe more. The one I'm thinking of it called VARI - Vegan Animal Rights Initiative. I tried googling it but can't seem to find anything of theirs. I know they are around though, so keep your eyes open.

Wow - I'm actually a member of VARI. My housemate and her partner are the "leaders". That's impressive, I didn't think anyone would have heard of us!
Hehe, that's awesome. Yeah, I heard someone from VARI speak at a potluck in Toronto. Do you guys have a website?

There's a link to our email address too, so just ask to be put on the listserve and you can get updates every time we take action/have a potluck.

Hola!
I would be the friend of Beatricious who is a "leader" of VARI in Kingston. Please feel free to sign on for our listserve, we send out good articles and whatnot, and anyone in Kingston is more than welcome to join and come out to meetings and potlucks, we operate out of Queen's but have non-students as very active members.
Also, if anyone in Kingston is a lonely vegan, let me know and we can have a Sleepless Goat date.
What's a Sleepless Goat date? Is that a restaurant?

Sleepless Goat is a downtown hang out in Kingston that's very veg-friendly. Mr. Meatless and I went there once, it was nice. The food was good and fairly cheap.
