Cloverdale Rodeo: There will be a protest on Sunday May 21st and Monday May 22nd 2006. We will protest for two hours: 2pm-4pm. We'll be holding signs at the corner of 176th Street and 60th Avenue in Surrey, BC, Canada, which is in front of the Cloverdale Fairgrounds and the Surrey Museum & Archives. If nothing's changed since last year, there should be an ESSO gas station and a 7-11 convenience store across the street, in case you need to go to the washroom.

There's a bus that goes right near where we are protesting, but you might not want to take the bus after protesting, or if you've been to previous year's protests, since pro-rodeo people might recognize your face and heckel you. So, there will be carpools from the King George Skytrain Station at 1pm on both days.

Signs will be provided.

There are also hopes to get together a few diners to have a meal at Mayuri restaurant. It is a lacto-vegetarian restaurant located at 12677-80th Avenue (at 127th St) in Surrey. This South Indian eatery is walking distance from Vegetarian Delite Bakery (in case anyone was wondering where it was). Send me a PM (private message) if you want to come to the restaurant, and tell me what time you'd be able to come. You can come to just the restaurant or just the protest(s) or both. I phoned them and they said they are closed on Mondays. They said they are open from 11am-9pm on Sundays. I don't think they'd be closed that Sunday because I said "May 21st" on the phone. I think the only time we'd be able to meetup at the restaurant BEFORE the protest is 11am, since there's going to be a carpool meetup at King George Station at 1pm. The earliest time after the protest would probably be 4:45pm, since the protest ends at 4:00pm. Those are the two times that I think would be most convenient, but anytime between 4:45pm and 8pm would work also.

So send me a private message!

Hi everyone! Long time, no post. I have been a very busy woman! I hope we're all doing well.

I'd like to invite locals to come visit me this summer as I have begun selling vegan goodies at the Farmers Markets around Vancouver and the Lower Mainland this year. You can check out the goods, make custom/special/advance orders for anything your heart desires by visiting my newly revamped website:

http://www.veganmania.com

The recipes section is still there, of course - but it will be undergoing a renovation in the near future as well.

If you do come check out my stall this summer, make sure you mention you heard about it from VB.

Thanks everyone!

Big love!

Hi Tofu-N-Sprouts, and thanks for your enthusiasm. Don't worry, the recipe portion of the site will remain (and be updated with lots of new recipes soon). If you go to http://www.veganmania.com you will find a list of market dates and locations on the main page. I hope I do get to see you!

Hiya Kreeli :hi: Wow those goodies look awesome! I wish you were shipping, I want that sampler box. :D

probably in the autumn/winter, BPS. :) part of the reason is that the chocolatey things wouldn't hold up well to the heat they'd endure in shipping in the summer months. the other reason is i'm just too busy to worry about trips to the post office during market season.

thanks for the support, hun.

OMG ME TOO! I'm going to have to stalk you.
No, don't worry, I'm joking. I'd make a terrible stalker. Plus I don't even live in the west kootenays anymore- moved to the Boundary last summer.

Castlegar. I wasn't there for too long, just a few years until my father got transferred (he worked and Pope and Talbot).

Hi all:
I'm new in this forum. I can't believe I have already spent almost a year in Van and this is the first local veggie forum I find. I moved last year from Montreal to study and work at ubc. I've been vegetarian for 15 years and vegan for 1. By the way, there's this buddist restaurant close to my place called Bodhi Choi Heung Vegetarian Restaurant at 3932 Fraser (at 23 Ave) It's Vegan-friendly, Chinese, and there is this another place on Cambie and 19th called OM Vegetarian Restaurant. Don't forget your organic veggies at the UBC Farm!
Cheers!

Does anyone know a good website to find veg restaurants in vancouver? I am thinking of planning a trip up there to eat some good food but am having difficulty locating a good list. I also am open to recommendations if anyone has any. Thanks.

Hey Jaynesh...there's an awesome place to eat on Broadway...West Broadway. It's a vegetarian buffet. I forget the name of it but really yummy food there. If you google it I'm sure you'll be able to find it. Umm...if you go to the Georgia Straight's website they shoudl have something there. That's a free local entertainment newspaper that has restaurant listings. A lot of good veggie places on 4th West (Kitsilano) and Commercial Drive. Sort of the Bohemian parts of town that have some interesting eateries.

Have fun!

greetings fellow vancouverites!

i'm posting to let you know what VeganMania Bakery (http://www.veganmania.com) is up to over the next month or so.

thanks to all the requests we recieved over the summer, we have been working on switching to using organic ingredients in our products as much as possible since the summer market season ended. we have also been working at providing more wheat-free goodies - right now we are offering several organic spelt flour based treats including brownies, toffee nut bars, and oatmeal raisin cookies.

you can find us selling our regular line up of sweet treats at the indoor winter farmer's market next saturday, dec. 2nd at the wise hall in east vancouver: cookies, mini-cakes, brownies, dessert squares, etc.

if you visit our site next week you will see we will have begun taking orders on our special line up of WINTER HOLIDAY TREATS, including chocolate-dipped shortbread, gingery candied pecans, chocolate almond and cranberry bark, and specialty tarts. these will be available for a limited time only and are sure to go fast, so pre-order online to avoid disappointment; or make sure to come visit us at the winter holiday market at the heiritage hall located on main street in vancouver, saturday december 9th, between 10am and 5pm.

details about both venues are available on our site, or at the official site for the the vancouver farmer's market society. (http://www.eatlocal.org)

if you have any questions don't be shy!

thanks for your time.

VeganMania (http://www.veganmania.com) is now accepting pre-orders for our holiday goodies! Visit the site to see pretty pictures and get your order in. The holiday treats won't last long at the indoor Holiday Market this weekend so advance ordering is the only way to be sure you won't be disappointed!

Hope to see you there!

It would also be great if you'd fill out my preliminary market research survey located here:
http://community.livejournal.com/vancouvervegs/33479.html

It's an important step towards getting into an actual retail location of my own.

Thanks!

Please excuse the intrusion, but you might be able to help re-unite this wonderful dog w/his distraught family:( . I've posted in the Companion Animals forum, under "Please Look Out for this Dog (esp. in BC)" (I can't post a link to it, yet).8756

The woman has already taken a zillion steps posting notices & flyers & calling the guy's ex-roommate & putting out a reward notice on TV; she's even ready to move away so the guy won't find them again, once they get the dog back.

Let's help! Thanks!
