Amy's is available at most Save-On's, Choices (there's one by Edmonds station) and I'm not sure where else. You can probably email the company though. http://www.amyskitchen.com/index.php

But yeah, Amy's is also at Marketplace IGAs. mhmm.

Capers is too! Those places are for treats or rare purchase items in this household. If you get the Choices card it lets you get some awesome deals sometimes though. Like on Soy Delicious. *drools*

My husband is going to be in Victoria on business and I wonder if anyone can recommend any good veg*n restaurants in the area?
Thanks!
have a look at www.vegdining.com, cinnamon toast.
i've eaten at "green cuisine" and "the lotus pond" several times over the years, they're both pretty good.

W/r/t Choices being expensive, I agree when it comes to straight-up household goods. I get my "normal stuff" like kitty litter etc. at the Buy-Low by my place. However, if you're buying some smaller organic products or speciality items, or you keep an eye out for their caselot sales such as they're having right now, you can easily do wayyyyy better than the same products at the Buy-Low or Safeway.
ETA: Oh yeah, and the Choices card is good times, not to mention my magic green mesh bag that saves me a nickel every time. That's my retirement fund right there.
Are there alot of activists in Vancouver?I want to get a list going for demo's..
I want to get back out there for animals,as soon as I am settled! :)
bumble, check out www.veganvoices.com
they seem to be a fairly active group.
i am trying to make time to become more active with them as well.
plus you should start listening to the "animal voices" show on vancouver's co-op radio. info here: http://www.animalvoices.org/
Awesome, thanks Kreeli~
I was worried, because only 50 people made it oout for the Seal hunt protest in Van.
I think I need to drum up some new support at the universitys and colleges.
Thanks for the links!
hello
In August 2005, I hope to be visiting BC. I need just a little
local information to help me plan. Is there someone in the
group who would mind helping with a few questions? If so,
and it's appropriate, then please use my e-mail address.
Local knowledge is indispensable.
I anticipate that we (me, wife, grand daughter) will arrive by
plane in Vancouver and drive to Kamloops, our proposed
"base camp" for the trip.
My questions range from:
* Can I buy a Zyliss grater from a second hand shop
to
* Who in Vancouver offers great deals on auto rentals?
(The real budget places aren't usually found on the web. I know
from previous experience with helping visitors to NZ.)
kind regards
Perry
There's going to be four consecutive days of protesting the Cloverdale Rodeo starting on Friday, May 20th, and ending on Monday, May 23rd. It's the long weekend here in Canada. The rodeo is taking place inside the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, which are located at the corner of 176th Street and 60th Avenue in Surrey, BC, Canada. There is a building called the Surrey Museum and Archives there, which we will be protesting in front of. Across the street there is a 7-Eleven and and Esso gasoline station, in case anyone needs to use the washroom/lavatory. Cloverdale is an area within the city of Surrey. The first two are organized by Ashley, and the last two are organized by Lauchlan. The first two start at noon and go until 2:00pm, and the last two start at 2:00pm and end at 4:00pm. The first one (on Friday) will be a "funeral", with tombstones representing the humans and animals who have died in Canadian rodeos, so please wear black. We are expecting media to be there.
If you plan on taking transit, get off at the Surrey Central Skytrain Station. Walk to Station Bay 2 and board bus #320 Langley Centre Via Willowbrook. This bus will make a stop near the corner of 176th Street and 60th Avenue. This is where you get off and walk to our protest.
If you cannot take transit, on Sunday and Monday we'll be meeting at 1:00pm and leave at 1:15pm at the King George Skytrain Station in Surrey. We might be able to find a spot for you in one of our carpools, but we can't guarantee anything.
This is one of the few protests in BC that occurs very close to the Canada/US border, so I encourage any dedicated Americans who live in Blaine, Bellingham, or other cities in Whatcom county to attend. I'm not sure if you need a passport nowadays though. You'd also have to check what the border line-ups are like, since last year there was a worker's strike, so the line-ups were HOURS long.
And for you SFU students, haven't you ever heard of SOAR (formerly SETA) ?!

"Towards Non-Speciesism? Reflections on the 20th-century Animal Protection Movement" will be presented by David Delafenetre during session G: "Coalitions I: New Possibilities Abounding" of the "Thinking Through Action" conference. This session runs from 10:45am-12:15pm on Saturday, June 11th, 2005.
David Delafenetre is a history instructor at Simon Fraser University. The conference is taking place at SFU's Harbour Centre campus, at 515 West Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver BC. The cost for students and low-income people and students is $25. The regular cost is $80. There's a website that you can register and make your payment online at (but I can't post links yet, I don't think). Just use a search engine, I guess.

East Vancouver residents should know about, and give love to, Budgie's Burritos on the Kingsway side of the Broadway/Kingsway/Main triangle. A $6.00 "Blair Stanley" is tofu in chipotle/roasted red pepper sauce, with assorted other wonderfulnesses, and will feed a ravenous post-yoga Brahmacharya for dinner and midnight snack...it's HYUUUUGE.
They also serve Tofurkey products of various kinds, and while they do serve dairy they will happily substitute guacamole for the dairy products with no guff or forgetfulness.
Honourable mention to The Hatch for at least trying to have a tofu scramble, even though it's a bit bland, and their crazy veggie bacon.

I will definitely check out Budgie's next time I am down that way. Have you been to the Foundation? I had a wonderful meal there last time I was there, though my friend's wasn't so good. And I am a Naam-girl...I live just a few minutes from there and go all the time.

I have been to the Foundation and while I do enjoy it as a general rule, the service can be pretty spotty [no disrespect, just sayin' is all]. Yes, definitely check Budgies, and the Hatch or Slickety Jims is an excellent compromise when brunching w/omnis. The Naam is great. A real institution. Um, I won't be able to recognize you from your avatar so I'll just scream 'KIMBERLY' really loudly next time I come by. :dunce:

i finally got to drop by The Foundation for my birthday dinner last week and i got the maple tahini on quinoa and vegetables dish...it was tasty tasty!
it was really busy when i was in there and the service was pretty slow, but i figure that makes sense. there was a line out the door by the time i got up to leave...looks like i narrowly avoided the rush, thank goodness!

Also, i was just wondering if any of the lovely Vancouverites/surrounding areaers got the chance to drop by the film festival on Sunday at the East Cultural Center?
i had wanted to but ended up not being able to, i'd love to hear about what kind of a turn out it got though.

Mmmm. May I recommend the Spicy Peenut.
I did not make it to the film festival....stupid job, I never get to do anything fun. I hear the Cultch is a good place to see, well, everything, though.

I work in casting [ugh, it even sounds/reads sleazy] and I'm constantly being bombarded by verbal and printed invitations to attend various script readings and so on "at the Cultch". I didn't make it up, I swear! I used to date a cellist who had a quartet rehearsal near there but I don't have a clear memory of it. Must have blocked it out.
Yeah, the Spicy Peenut, and the appetizer option where you get a little bit of everything is a considerable amount of food for the price, I recommend that too.

Well thank you very much for the recommendations. i fully intend on checking them out.
the thing about The Foundation though is that i know it's all vegetarian but wheni ordered the tahini maple dish i got it because from what i could tell on the menu it was vegan...but then when i got it was very creamy and i really don't see how it was dairy free...i'm always skeptical of things like that, and i really should have asked when i ordered, but i didn't. i need to get better about specifying vegan, especially when i'm somewhere i haven't been before.
