I just moved back to Vernon, but I'm feelin kinda.......bored! I'm thinkin about moving to Vancouver for atleast awhile, but I have no-one to move with (so far). All my friends seem pretty rooted at the moment. I do know one guy there, but he already has a roomie, and no doubt their place is too small for one more  . So, if anyone knows of a good resourse for finding people that are looking for roomies, or......uh you get the idea. I also have no idea what I'm doin. I'm a little freaked out about moving there, sometimes it sounds kinda rough, plus I'll be on my own for the first time (x lifetime of relationships). Also, what are some fun things to do there? I figure with all the people so far that I have seen that are around Van, that it wouldnt be too hard to get some info. Thanx

Heh, there seem to be a number of questions in this thread, but not too many answers. I'll ask another anyway:

Is anyone familliar with the Gastown area of Vancouver? It looks like a nice place to live and I'm wondering if any locals know if that's so or if there is some sort of problem with noise or meat festivals? Hmmm...

gastown and the adjacent yaletown are among the trendiest areas of downtown vancouver to live right now...and rents and property values reflect that. i think you will get a fairly small living space for a huge amount of money. but if that doesn't bother you i'm sure you'd enjoy being down there. it's quite busy and it gets a lot of tourist traffic, but i don't think there are any meat festivals. ha!

Thanks Kreeli, and yeah I noticed the large price tags on the bigger places (yikes!). What's your favourite area?

Hi everyone. i just joined after lurking for a while and wanted to say hello to the fellow bcers out there. i was surprised to see a poster from Dawson Creek, that's where i was born. And to HystericGlamour, i was just up in PG for Christmas (or at least was on the way home to Smithers).

i'm currently in Burnaby studying at SFU and am dying to find a good veg*n chinese food place. anyone wanna point me in some cool directions for finding one?

there is "paradise veggie noodle house", on 10th avenue in burnaby, which is really vietnamese, but lots of tasty items on their menu, and everything is vegan except for the bubble teas and the dairy icecream on their deep fried bananas.

you could also head downtown to chinatown and go to "the buddist vegetarian" restaurant on pender street (about two blocks west of main).

i also reccommend "bo kong", which is in vancouver on main street around 16th.

hello everybody
i just found this forum and it's pretty cool to see that there are other veggie's out there....i was beginning to wonder if any other's existed!! :P
anyways, i was just wondering if any of you know of any events or the like where one could meet some like-minded people. i don't really have any veggie friends, and sometimes its a little bit discouraging not having anyone to relate to who really understands. gosh, it would be nice to go out to eat with someone who didn't find it morally acceptable to have another being's tortured carcass for dinner!! :O
o, and by the way, i don't mean to be rude so i better introduce myself. i'm kaylee, and i'm a 17 yo unemployed broke student just doing my first year of environmental science at sfu. i'm just a vegetarian, but i'm really trying to go vegan!! :D
i'd love to meet some other animal activists, veggie fanatics, and environmental hippies!! lol :D
nice to meet you all!

I'm fairly certain that there's a veggie group at SFU that you could get involved with as a way of breaking into the whole scene. Here's a link about a twice weekly lunch http://www.peak.sfu.ca/the-peak/2005-1/issue4/ne-veglunch.html The meal's by donation only so you just give what you can afford. That's at the Burnaby campus though so if you're going to another campus then I don't know. But there's also www.veganvoices.com which is an organisation based in Vancouver, a vegan focus but it's inclusive of vegetarians and they do demonstrations or you could just go to their newly opened store and meet some people. Good luck with finding some people of like mind. :)

Hahahaha! Hi Kreeli! Kreeli you cracked me up 'cause when I saw your post on VeganVoices I thought how did Kreeli get here? Completely forgot about posting that link.

I dropped by that store today but wasn't aware that they were closed for construction so didn't see the inside and what all they had. There's a cool thrift store and clothing store in the same building too for anyone that's looking for either of those.

My vegan friend from Portland tells me that "Amy's" is a good brand to try.

Does anyone know where to go in the Lower Mainland (preferably south Burnaby) to get Amy's products?

BTW... I'm new to the veggieboard (but not BC)!

And, if you're looking for a "whole" foods store in South Burnaby, there's one on Edmonds. I can't remember the name. It's more of an Indian foods store, and they didn't have a great selection of soy products (I'm sure Sunrise or Pete's doesn't grace their shelves), but they probably have every South Indian food ingredient you could ever want.
