so recently i've switched from using a regular store bought shampoo to a more natural one- i bought some 'avalon organics' ylang ylang and mica shampoo and conditioner, and i'm reaaaalllly pretty disapointed by it. i'd like to keep using more natural hair products, but am worried that they all might just not work as well as the regular ones that i'm used to.
i've got long, fine, wavy hair...lots of it... because its fine and gets oily fast, i need to wash it every single morning, or its just horrendously greasy and flat to my head by lunchtime, lol. (tried washing it less often, just doesnt work!) also, where i live the water is pretty harsh and drying, so i need a good conditioner for the ends, but not one that'll add to the greasy issues.
the problem i've had with the avalon organics is that it just doesnt seem to lather very well and stay lathered, so even if i use loads of shampoo, i find it hard to get it all over my head, and i end up with spots on my scalp that aren't quite clean... and the conditioner doesn't seem to do anything at all.
i have a really nice 'kiss my face' 'clean for a day' cream facial cleanser, and peach moisturiser, they both work great, so i'm thinking to get a (don't know which one exactly yet) kiss my face shampoo and conditioner..... i'm just worried that i'm going to feel like i've wasted my money again if they don't work, and would hate to end up going back to some horrid store bought shampoo... does anyone use kiss my face shampoo? is it any good?
the only other brands that i've seen in my local zehrs supermarket are jason, aubry organics (i think thats what its called) natures gate, and kiss my face .... in a few months i'm really aiming to get to an aveda store (lol.. what an aspiration!) and try their stuff, but until then, i could really use some advice on this- and on what brand to use thats actually going to work!

Kiss My Face Everyday Shampoo is EXCELLENT but I find it lathers even less than the Avalon brand (which actually has more "cleansers" in it). I have short hair and it takes a palm full of KMF shampoo to have it lather like I like it. Having said that, KMF is honestly one of the best (if not the best) natural shampoo I've used...and I've tried almost all of them;)

Right now I'm using the Avalon Lavender shampoo because it lasts longer since it suds so well.

I tried all the brands previously mentioned in the past and wasn't satisfied. KMF was a brand I actually bought two bottles of. I suffered through only one bottle of the others mentioned. I'm so picky about what goes on my hair because I spend a fortune at the salon on my cut and color. That being said, we all have different hair types and different needs, so maybe they'll work great for you. If not, I'd encourage you to try Arbonne's Not-So-Basic Self Adjusting shampoo and conditioner. And if you don't find that it works for you, you can return it for a full refund within 45 days.

I tried some of the Nature's Gate conditioner once and thought it was great. Sadly, seems impossible to get in the UK now.

Hope you find something suitable soon.

Aveda products are wonderful - and you can buy them in gigantic sizes which make them closer to being reasonably priced.

Visit www.lush.com

I'm very satisfied with all their hair products. So far I've used jungle solid conditioner, big shampoo, solid shampoo bar for hard water, arabian brights henna conditioner (I think that one has been discontinued), and a sample of american cream conditioner (that I really liked but won't buy because of the lanolin ingredient).

My hair is a combo of curly/wavy, fine, and tends to be on the dry side. I'm very pleased with their stuff because it doesn't weigh my hair down or make it greasy.

I have tried every organic brand I could find. Now, Giovanni is ALL my household and my clients use! http://www.giovannicosmetics.com/

Has anyone tried Desert Essences conditioner? It was half price, so I figured "why not?" I've yet to actually try it.

so i'd like to say a big thankyou to everybody for your advice!
i'm not too keen on buying cosmetic/hair stuff online- i like to smell and see it properly first, ya know- so i think i'm gonna go with the giovanni next - i found out that they have it in the local shopperdrugmart, and the healthfood store, and it doesn't seem too expensive. hopefully it lathers better than the rest of them seem too!
then (if i get my visa extension- *fingers crossed*) when i move in a couple of months, (hopefully sooner) and am actually able to get to toronto without getting up at 4 am and only being there for an hour before i have to come back again (stupid buses where i live now- grrr! lol) i'll go with my plan of going to check out aveda, -i desperately wanna try their makeup- especially the foundation and powder, and they have some red shampoos on their site too which sound soooo good, so i guess i'll go on a little spree with the lovely bf's hard earned money- hehehe.
i'll probably look into the lush products while i'm there, they look and sound really nice-i've seen their stores in the UK before too- but i've never managed to actually get very far into the store without being overwhelmed by all the smells and having to beat a hasty retreat (allergies) but i'll make a real effort this time!
so yep.... again- thankyou so much everyone, for saving me from buying another cr@ppy shampoo!

ALOT of times it really depends on your hair type, weather & the water where you are. I also believe you are supposed to change shampoos every couple of months. I have used all the above products & others that haven't been mentioned. You really have to just try out what works best for you.

i think the water here has a lot to do with it- its pretty awful- its really drying, it makes your skin itchy, and your hair feel really brittle and full of build up. i think its got a lot of calcium and limestone in it, or something, but its pretty nasty, it'll make a horrid yellow build up streak under your taps in the bathtub if you don't scrub it all the time, lol. at home in the uk, my water is quite hard too, but i can pretty much use any shampoo without a big problem, as long as i use a good conditioner. here, its not so simple. it is a lot more humid than i'm used to as well, so i'm sure thats a big factor. i'm hopeful that when we get our own place in a year or so we can get a built in water filter system, but until then, i guess i have to try new things out, and work it out as i go.

Don't forget Aveda! Their Sham-pure conditioner is my favorite ever! I haven't tried the shampoo, but the lady said the conditioner is better anyway.

If you have hard water and think thats the culprit, try Lush's hard water solid shampoo bar. I have it and it's fabulous. I then use their Jungle solid conditioner bar. My hair is super soft and shiny where it used to be dull, brittle, and dry. I believe the key is nutralizing the chemicals added to the water, and getting away from added chemicals in shampoos and conditioners.

i have been using giovanni products for years; it is definitely my favorite brand of hair care products. i have very fine hair with a tendency to get quite oily a few hours after shampooing, but the 50/50 balanced shampoo with tea tree triple treat conditioner works well on my hair. also, both the leave-in conditioner and the deep conditioning treatment are worth a shot.

get a water filter that fits on your shower head..It will filter all the impurities out. You can get them pretty cheap.

In my opinion, Aveda dries out your hair. It contains alot more chemicals than other brands. (watch out for the sodium lauryl suflate and parabens). Jason shampoos smell too strong in my opinion. Like a chemical factory.

I have used Morroco Method, Aubrey and Kiss My Face.

Kiss my Face works the best for me. Most places have trial sizes you can use first.

About how long does the shampoo bar last?

It says its supposed to last 3 months. I'd say mine last a little less than that, but I have long hair... *shrugs*
