I've been making little elliott's baby food for about a month now (except carrots because I heard you can't make it for some reason). Just wondering how the rest of the world feeds their youngins

yeah, i made most of my baby food--seems like so long ago now, i barely remember, and my son's only 3! anyway, i bought an inexpensive mini food processor and it was so easy, it seemed silly not to make it...i made it in batches, put it in ice cube trays and froze it...i did buy it occassionally for convenience when we were travelling and such...

I did a bit of both, with my dd i mostly fed her organic baby food, some i made myself.......with my son i mostly fed him homemade baby food and also some jarred organic food.

I never though to freeze it. I've just been making very small amounts at a time. WOW I can't beleive i've never thought of that.

I made my own, why cant you make carrots? I fed both mine carrots.

I never made enough to freeze it was just kind of mush it up as I go sorta deal, my girls ate what I ate.

I can't remember where I read the whole no carrots thing. I wish I could find it but I've been doing so much baby nutrition research lately (gotta get my facts straight about the whole veg*n thing or else I'll get the bad parent vibe from my fam) anywho I read that there is a certain chemical found in some carrots that are harmful. I'll keep looking for it.

I froze it too. i would line a cookie sheet with wax paper, put scoops on the sheet put it in the freezer, when they were frozen i lifted them off and put them in baggies and back into freezer.

I made all of my son's baby food. It was such fun to do!
I suggest getting the book "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron. It was like my bible when my son was little. I still refer to it sometimes, even though he's 4 now.

I made it as well for the twins and my last one. It was so easy, how could I not? :)
That's interesting about the carrots. I made carrots but was told to skip spinach. lol
None of mine liked green beans. The twins favorite was the fruit mixes I would make, the baby liked pumpkin. In fact he loved pumpkin. It was one of his first foods, our cut up (painted with non toxic, washable paints) jack o lantern.
I thought it was fun. I actually sometimes miss making it.

Yup, we used the Ruth Yaron book, too. It is completely tattered and stained now from overuse. ;)

As far as the peas...are you using a food mill or strainer? A lot of babies don't like the gritty texture of the peas if they haven't been food milled or strained. The grit comes from the tougher skins. The food mill was my best friend when I made food for my two daughters. I miss it!

I think I'll check out the food mill. I was just using a mini processor

it's so easy!! we just puree whatever and then put it in ice cube trays and freeze it...and then you just get out whatever portion you need, when you need it.

we also occasionally buy a jar of organic baby food as a starter/tester...

we're getting ready to move to stage 2 foods & i was wondering what combinations were good & went over well with others babies...
any suggestions would be great!!

There was no option for making organic baby food and occasionally using organic baby food :think:

For the record, I made my own baby food (even carrots). I am so curious as to where you heard such an odd thing as that and what the reasoning was behind it. :confused:

sorry I did not think to add using organic fruits/veggies. but that is what I use as well. there is a link on the first page about the nitrates in carrotts (thanks again). well so far elliott has had peas :no: , apples, carrotts, papaya, and rice cereal. :lick: we are getting ready to try sweet potatoes and bananas next week.

You mean that your child doesn't get breastmilk, or does?? Breastmilk is most certainly vegan! It comes from YOU and is the way it's supposed to be!!

^ It's not dairy, silly ;D Dairy implies it comes from a cow, which I'm quite sure you're not. Breastfeeding= the way to go!

i don't know though, isn't goat milk/cheese dairy? maybe not, i guess??
