This was already posted in the Product Reviews forum, but I wanted to let all of the dairyland vegs know about it, too, just in case you didn't see it.

http://www.ordervegantreats.com/ I emailed them and got a reply from the woman who owns the company. She's located in Oconto, just a bit north of Green Bay!!

So, if anyone's hankerin' some vegan fudge or other delectable homemade treats, keep her in mind! I know I sure am. :lick:

I'm trying to lose my last 10 pounds of pregnancy weight....
But I'll add the link to my links page!

Sally, the only place I have ever eaten in Green Bay is Subway so I can’t really recommend any restaurants. There is a vegetarian restaurant less than a mile from where you are staying called Kavarna. Here is a link for it http://www.vegdining.com/GetRest.cfm?rk=US-WI-GREE-KAVAR I have no idea how old the link is or if the place is still in business but I’ve always meant to check it out. I will be in Green Bay on the 6th. I have to stop up there early in the morning; I don’t know if I will be able to stay long enough to meet up or not? What is your schedule like that day? Pm me

Slynny,
Kavarna is still open! I called and it sounds great. They also have a website : www.kavarna.com
I am excited to visit and then see some of the other shops down there. PM me if you're still thinking of meeting up.
:D

Can anyone suggest a grocery store or HFS in Green Bay that would perhaps have some essentials such as Clif Bars, organic fruit, etc? Close to the KI convention center would be good...

There's another KFC demo (http://www.thisiscool.net/vpforum/viewtopic.php?t=121) this weekend!
Don't know whether you are all aware of these demos, just wanted to let you know.

Sally, this is what I could find in order of closeness to you. Again, I'm not sure how old the link I found these on is so check them out before you go.

My trip to Green Bay was GREAT! I had a wonderful time. Call me crazy but I love that town!
Kavarna was wonderful. It's the cutest little coffee shop/vegetarian place that has high speed wireless internet :vebo: So I hung out there a couple times. The employees were so friendly (although not too clued in on what vegan means...???) Both times I had the falafel which was SO delicious. It would be worth the 4 hour drive just to have that falafel again....and to visit the wonderful nightclub called "pi" where the DJ (from Madison) played the most phenominal mix and I danced until I couldn't move anymore!
Slynny, I hope your weekend was good and don't you worry, I will be back to Green Bay before you know it!

I'm glad to hear you had a good time, Sally. Maybe next time we can meet up. I had a trip to take with the family on Saturday and then a birthday party to throw yesterday, so it was a busy weekend! :dizzy:

I'll have to check out that restaurant next time we go there. :lick:

Hidy ho y'all. I just found this branch today. I guess I'm a bit slow...

I live in Madison (over 2 years now), but I used to live in Sparta (hell hole - 4 years). I absolutely love Madison.

I saw some questions about Peacemeal on State St. It's homey vegan food, but the service is extremely slow. Tasty chocolate cake! I want to go back to keep supporting them and also to see if they are faster (took 2 hours last time I was there - rough when you're hungry).

Mother Fool's Coffeeshop on Williamson St (aka Willy St) is owned by vegans and all their treats are vegan. They don't charge for soy milk either! I'm psyched that Stuart Davis will be playing there on Friday night! I've been dying to see him live.

Flower: You used to be on the VMB before it got destroyed right? I used to hang out there too (under a different name..he he).

The DH and I are thinking of relocating to Appleton......anybody here from Appleton, or familiar with the area? Can you tell me the good, the bad and the ugly?

I'm from northern WI, but I've been to Appleton before and I like it! It've always had fun and there's a lot of surrouding area/suburb type things, so it makes it a little bigger I suppse. I don't know about the bad and the ugly since I've never lived there, so sorry on that note. But I like Appleton!

It's about 2 - 2 1/2 hours away from Madison. A long distance in my opinion, but some people think that's nothing. If you do come to Madison, make sure you visit the Capitol. State St shoots off it to the UW. Climbing to the top of the cap building gives you an amazing and beautiful view of the isthmus.

Unfortunately the only thing I know about Appleton is that my crew used to always hit an Indian restaurant on Appleton's north side. It was so tasty and cheap. Sorry I can't be more help.

Hi new WI people! :hi:
Gashlycrumb, thanks for the up on Peacemeal. I just love Madison I get over there a few times a year! Next time I’m there I’ll have to try Peacemeal, and I’ll keep Mother Fool’s in mind too.

frenchie, where are you moving from? I was just in Appleton last weekend I have a friend who lives there. It really is a growing area; I’m always surprised at how much there is around the Fox Valley. I don’t really know how veg*n friendly it is to live there since I only go up for short visits or often just drive through. All in all I’d say I like Appleton and I can tell you my friend loves living there.

DreamWavz, where abouts up-north are you? I was just up in Manitowish Waters with some friends…it’s getting very colorful up there.

Thanks for the info Wanda!

I live right on Chequamegon Bay in Lake Superior, close to the Apostle Islands and all of that. It does get really pretty up here in the fall, do you live in WI slynny?

We would be coming from Ca.....where it's very veg*n friendly! I found a great website about Appleton, and it really looks like a place I would like to live, and raise my son. My DH is very indecisive about leaving Ca, so right now Appleton, and anywhere for that matter is out of the question *sigh*.....but I'm going to press the issue as far as I can. I'm not too worried about weather or not Appleton is veg*n friendly. I can grow my own veggies organically, and there are so many websites like Pangea that I can order specialty items from. My biggest concern is safety....Huntington Beach is one of the safest cities in the nation, and I was pleased to find that Appleton has the same (low) crime rate as HB. Second is the issue of education. HB has some of the best resources for homeschoolers, and I was really pleased to find that 24% of children in Appleton are homeschooled. My mission now, is to convince the DH that we need to move.

I feel like the official announcer of this thread. :)
I just added the Vegetarian Thanksgiving Feast info to the Marv site (http://marveg.tripod.com/).
Who's coming this year? It's really a great event! We go there each year.

Saturday I went to Outpost for some coffee and vegan treats. I used to work right behind their capitol location and do all my shopping there, and go for lunch every day (or at least a vegetable juice or coffee).

Anyway, hadn't been there in awhile and don't go much now that it has been remodeled. I couldn't believe the prices!!! My partner and i chose there over Beans and Barley and ended up spending $8.69 for 1 regular and 1 large coffee, a coconut cupcake and a vegan chocolate cupcake and a vegan brownie.

As if that isn't bad enough, i went to pick up some essentials and couldn't believe the prices!!! Gardenburger riblets were $5! We skipped out and stopped at picknsave and got them for $2.89. Amy's Frozen dinners were all around $3.50-$5.00 ($2.25 to 3.99 other places), Soy Decadent was $5 for a pint ($3.49 at picknsave). My god! I knew their sandwiches were obscenely expensive, but the packaged food price hike has got to be new. I just read through the posts and saw they now sell VEAL! WTF?

Anyway, thought i would share my disgust. I felt kinda guilty going to picknsave, but now that i see they sell veal i don't feel so bad. I didn't mind the meat department so much, because i figure if people are going to eat meat, they should at least eat organic free-range, so they may as well have organic stuff available to them because i think it is better. I hate looking at it though - YUCK!

I highly recommend Woodman's for all your veg*n needs. They have one in Racine i go to - everything is so cheap, they are employee owned, and they store has possibly more of a selection than Outpost (seems to for the stuff i want, but can't figure out what they fill that whole space with if it fits into a few aisles at Woodmans....). Organic fruit/veggie section, frozen, dry goods.

Almost had a heart attack when i saw Ecos Laundry Soap for $8.99 a gallon. By far the biggest extreme, but Oupost sells it for $21! Even with me stocking up when it was on sale, the sale only brought it down to $16 and was only once a year in April.

AHHHHHH.

On edit - well, the freaken PickNSave must have figured out they were undercharging for Riblets. the price was raised to $3.99. GRRRR! I knew it was too good to be true and I should have stocked up!

I should also add that I had a great experience when taking a class at the UW-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education. They usually have a buffet style lunch - salad bar, relish tray, bread basket, some sort of pasta, 2 soups and then 2 meat dishes. Not the best food, but a good selection (i think it is dorm food). Oh, and a cookie table!

Anyway, took a class there last month and the coordinater popped in and anounced that since we were the only class, we would have a sit-down meal instead of a buffet and we were having beef strogonoff. The teacher immedietely asked if anyone was vegatarian. I raised my hand and the teacher asked if i could have a special meal. The coordinater said yes, and called me aside to ask what exactly i will eat (she recognized that there are different types of vegetarian) and then said she would talk to the chef. I was very pleased. She then discovered there was another class, so the buffet was on, but the woman came back to tell me that 1 soup everyday was vegetarian.

I was happy, and I should be happy since my company shells out $800 for me to go to a 2 day class!
