Does anyone know what the requirements for attending a MARV potluck are? I'm assuming that you would have to bring a dish, but do you have to be a member or is it open to anyone?
They are open to anyone!
Just bring a dish.

Hey all you Wisconsinites....cold enough for you? Seems like just yesterday it was still in the 70's. Anyhoo, I took a trip into town (Milwaukee) to do a little shopping and pick up my order from Vegan Essentials. What nice people!! Very friendy, super helpful, a really neat place! It will be nice when they get a new place with a store front because the place they have now isn't set up for just dropping by and shopping around....but they are very welcoming and are glad to have stop by...as long as you call first and set it up. They are close to the Outpost in Wauwatosa which was nice cuz I needed to stop there too. I picked up a variety of VE's food stuffs...Some of which I liked while others were a bit disappointing, but you never know until you try...and I love to try new foods!

Glad to hear the trip to VE was a good one, Slynny! I'm definitely visiting them when they move & open their storefront. Any idea where in Milwaukee it'll be?

Wanda, hopefully in the next month or two I will only have to work every other Sunday and then no Sundays anymore at all! So, that means I'll be able to go to a MARV potluck. I'll keep you guys posted!

There's a new vegan store.
A nice lady (+ dog) opened a store selling all vegan cosmetics and cleaning products. Please go and support them!

My hubby just got the new Men's Health magazine today. They rated Madison as the healthiest city for men to live in! Here's the article-

*sigh* I love Madison.

Wasn't it Madison that was voted best place in the country to live just a few years ago?
Yup, Mad town is awesome.

"A curvy blonde reading Nietzsche or a willowy brunette reading The Onion? We saw all of the above."
Great for a men's health!

I just received the Outpost Exchange. I am so disgusted.
On page 12 there is a huge Thanksgiving add talking about the wonderful real turkeys they are going to be offering.
You can also enter a contest and win either a turkey or the Tofurkey Feast.

Yes, I know they have a meat department (and a fish department).
I am just getting more and more upset with their big meat loving crap.
They didn't even allow Marv to do the annual meat-out thing in their store in March, which they did allow previous years.

"Pasture raised in the out-of-doors at all times."
Yes great.
And then killed so people can have a nice party.
I'm just sick to my stomach reading this stuff.

Okay. I'm done venting.

I know what you mean about the Outpost, Wanda. Seems like they're getting bigger & bigger into the "natural" meat thing.

On a positive note, though, I just found out today that there is a new coffee house in Sheboygan that has vegetarian food! I'm so excited! :vebo: Not used to having more than a couple choices when I go out to eat. :)

On Marv's website we try to list all the suitable places for vegans/vegetarians in our area.

How far of a drive is Sheboygan from Shorewood?
I'm a Wisconsin-import.

It takes me 5, so I guess that answers it.

Vegan Essentials is moving closer to where I am! :bobo:
They're moving in about 2 weeks to a new storefront/warehouse on 3707 N. 92nd.
I needed some good news!

Yes!! That would be so nice!! :) I no longer have to work Sundays, so I actually have a full weekend now. I've been working every Sunday for the last two years, so this is very, very nice. :sunny:

Hi

I live in Milwaukee and wanted to mention 2 things.

First - in Racine their is an awesome "normal" grocery store called Woodman's. They are HUGE and have the cheapest food you have ever seen! They have a big selection of very cheap veggie/vegan food. Their is an organic produce/dairy section, lots of vegan dairy, veggie meats, natural dry goods and every Amy's products! Amy's is my favorite ; ) The frozen dinners are around 2-3 dollars for most. BTW they only accept cash or checks. When I lived down in Lake Forrest, IL. We used to drive up to stock up on food. They are open 24/7

Second - Has anyone been to Eastside Ovens? They are a vegan bakery that sells to places like Outpost, Alterra, Beans & Barley. They have great vegan chocolate cupcakes with 2 inches of icing! YUM! They are only open Saturday morning to the public.

Hi Moonflower!! :hi:

Thanks for letting us know about the store in Racine. :)

I've never been to that bakery, but I have had their stuff from the Outpost. Very good! :lick: Is Alterra a restaurant? My hubby & I are going to a Bucks game at the end of January and wanted to go out to eat somewhere before the game. If we can't find a good restaurant, we might just eat something from the deli at the Outpost.

Hi moonflower, I've heard of Woodmans, never been there, but now I have reason to check it out. I think my brother used to work at Eastside Ovens way back when....I'll have to ask him.

I've been to Eastside Ovens before.

I can't wait until Veganessentials moves! They probably will be there at the thanksgiving dinner too. Is any of you going?

A few days ago I drove on Center st. And somewhere at 50th on the side of a building there was this huge poster with 'Go Vegan' on it. Further it had some pictures of abused farm animals I think. I only saw it for a split second while driving by. Not the kind of neighborhood I would have expected to see a poster like that. Really cool! It definitely made my day. Who is posting these?
