Hi everyone!

I'm in the Kenosha area, wondering if anyone else is around here too. I've only lived in WI for 3 years, before that I was in CA for 18 years. Since I haven't been here long and I have just started being a vegetarian I was wondering if anyone knows of any nifty places to shop or eat out.

Thanks!

I live in Silver Lake, which is not far from Kenosha. I work in Kenosha and go there often to do groceries. I, as well have only lived here for five years, but it's ample time to get used to the area. What kind of vegetarian are you? There are several places which offer vegetarian options, but they are all spread out. Paddock Lake has a few and Kenosha has several.

I'm pretty recent to being a vegetarian, it feels funny just calling myself that like Im an impostor but using the title is my way of taking it seriously. Anyway I'm considered lacto-ova vegetarian but trying to wean myself off the eggs and dairy as well. I thought I saw a place when I drove to a friends in paddock lake and was going to look into it later but I don't know of any places in Kenosha. Any places that you've tried and liked?

Here's a listing you can search, it showed quite a few in Kenosha :) It has an icon to indicate the restaurant has some vegetarian offerings.

You might have seen Promise Land. The husband, kids, and I eat there often. They have a lot in the ways of vegetarians. You can get mexican foods with just beans and cheese, or vegetarian melts (which are awesome). As far as in Kenosha, I frequent Cousins Subs and Bean Grinders (which has an awesome veggie dog). Some other places to try are Thai Gourmet, Twisted Cuisine, and Boathouse Pub (which has egg subs if asked). Those are places I have eaten at, so I can honestly tell you that they do offer good vegetarian food.

Is the Tia Gourmet place you're talking about right by Kohl's and Target shopping area? If so I've eaten there once. Nice to know about these different places that I can try, now when my boyfriend asks where I want to eat I have some new ideas!

Yes, it is. We go to the mall a lot to pick up treats for our beardie, so we often stop there to munch on some good Thai food.

I ended up checking out the Glass Nickel Pizza Co. on Ridge Rd in Green Bay this weekend.

They have a few good sounding vegetarian sandwiches. All their breads and pizza crusts are vegan friendly so all you have to do is ask them to hold the cheese.

I went w/ a meat loving friend who absolutely loved his pizza. So I would imagine its got something for everyone.

Their websites says they have locations in Madison and a few other cities too, so i'd say, check 'em out.

-ktYeah, I'm a Madisonian myself so I can vouch that Glass Nickle is pretty well-known around here. :) They even sponsor my mother's professional theatre troup, lol.

Their cheeseless pizza was quite good (although at the time I was starving). A lot of white bread, but good crust and veggies nonetheless. ;)

I swing around the edge of madison when I head up to our family cabin once a month or so...maybe I'll head into town for dinner next time...I'm usually starved by the time I make it out that far anyway :)

Madison unfortunately doesn't have any pure vegetarian restaurants (at least that I know of), but they do have some really good diners that cater to vegetarians. One of more famous Madison diners that is veggie friendly is a place called "Monty's Blue Plate Diner." The have a bunch of unique veggie recipes like a vegetarian Rueben. I love their "Meatless Loaf of the Gods" (not vegan). Also, I've been told the pie crust is not vegetarian so avoid that.

wow looks like there are a lot of vegans and veggies around this area. Has there ever been a potluck or get together of some kind?

I'm going to Stevens Point for school. Where can I do some vegan shopping?

....or should I just stock up? I'm thinking this is in the middle of nowhere...?

I just moved to the Milwaukee area (Brookfield) for a job. I moved from NC. I don't know anyone in the area yet and it'd be cool to meet some fellow vegetarians. How's the veggie scene around here?

I live and work by the zoo, so I'm real close to you. Outpost (http://www.outpostnaturalfoods.coop/location.html) co-op has a location in Wauwatosa, which is a good place to check out. That's pretty much it out here.

If you don't mind venturing into downtown Milwaukee there are a few veg restaurants I've heard of and a vegan meetup group. Personally, I'm scared of going down there alone...so I haven't checked out either.

Smokey Toes--

Neither are completely veg, but have you tried Caspian Cafe on University or Himal Chuli on State? Both have some very tasty veg fair.

What veg cart in Madison?! On the Square or Library Mall? I will be in Madison Saturday afternoon maybe I'll get a chance to try it out.
