I suspect the Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon, specifically) will have something unturkeyish.

Hi Danke;

I live in the area and there is a sizable veg community.

Here are some of my favorite veggie links ( mmmmm, veggie links )
Vegetarian Society Of The District Of Columbia (VSDC)
http://www.vsdc.org

North America's oldest vegetarian organization started in 1927.
It hosts a variety of free social clubs for vegans and vegetarians.
It has a monthly restaurant visit, a book club, a singles club,
a raw food club, an African American networking club, yearly
Thanksgiving dinners that include hundreds of veg*ns, and a one
day VegFest convention with speakers, food, and fun in October.

It also has a very complete events calendar for all veg*n related
events in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. You can use it to
find something fun to do every weekend.

Events are held in Washington D.C., suburban Maryland, and
Northern Virginia

Vegdc.com
http://www.vegdc.com
A very complete FREE online guide to veg friendly restaurants, bakeries,
and other veggie resources in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area.

Veg-dc Email list:
http://www.waste.org/mai l/?list=veg-dc&doneurl=/regveg/& donename=RegionalVeg
A free mailing list for vegetarians and vegans living in the
Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. It is not affilated with
any group. Is great for networking with other local veg*ns,
finding out what is hot-n-veg*n in the area, and much more

Pangea
Vegan speciality goods open on Saturdays and Sundays

Meetup.com
http://www.meetup.com
Several vegan and vegetarian monthly restaurant visits are held in
Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia by meetup.com To find
one near you go to their site and search on "vegan" or "vegetarian".

The speaker is the president of the vegetarian society of the district of columbia, one of the clubs I volunteer for. I know him quite well and he is quite down to Earth.

I don't know much about the Bahai, but I do know they are very respectful of other people and they don't push themselves on anyone. The ones in the DC area are sort of like straight edge reggae people.

I will be in D.C. this Sun-Thurs for a work conference. I will be coming in mid-afternoon on Sunday and will be staying at the Omni Shoreham hotel at 2500 Calvert St. Anyone know of any good vegan eats that are close to the hotel? I've looked on vegdc.com but it looks like I'll have to take the metro to get anywhere on there. Anyone know of any places that are close to the hotel?

The hotel you're staying at is very close to the Woodley Park/Adam's Morgan metro stop (5 min walk). So the restaurants listed on vegdc.com near that stop would be useful for you. There's actually more places than what is listed there so I don't think you'll have a problem finding some tasty treats.

One of my favorite restaurants in that area is Lebanese Taverna. All delicious, mouth-watering Mediterranean food. I highly recommend going there. It's located on Connecticut Ave right across the street from the metro stop.

Have fun!
