:whack: Get your mind out of the gutter! Haha... no. In all seriousness, I think it may be too late to start this. Anyway, I'm in a play called "Jekyll and Hyde" in my town, and I play Lucy, who is a protitute (which is odd, since I'm just about as un-hookerish as it's possible to be...). I found out that my costume is a bit... revealing... and I need to shape up a bit more. I don't have much time, the show starts at the end of June. Any help? I'm not horribly out of shape, I just need to tone up my abs (there's some winter flab there...) and my thighs a bit. I know you can't spot reduce, but anything might help. I don't have a lot of time, due to practices, but school's almost out, so that will free up mornings. Any help at all would be wonderfully appreciated, in terms of diet and/or exercise.:lovesign:

Run at least 30 minutes 4x a week. It will tone up your arms, abs, hips, butt, and thighs and you'll start to see results in 2-3 weeks, if not sooner.

There's no harm in giving it a go, but I don't really think your going to see a huge change within a month unless you dedicated quite a few hours to it which it sounds like you haven't got.

Prostitutes have all different body shapes, some are toned, some aren't. Why don't you just play Lucy as you are and not worry about it? :) Concentrate on how she would act rather than what she would look like.

I know this probably doesn't help you at all and it is pretty irrelevant, but I always thought it was funny that people think hookers all look like super models, wear lots of makeup and tall shoes and stand on street corners. If you were incredibly hot, do you think you'd really be a prostitute in the first place? The truth is that 95% of hookers are driven to that occupation by addiction or desperation, and they look like it too. I live in the inner city, and trust me you can tell a hooker when you see one, but she will NOT look like that. Hookers do come in all shapes and sizes and colors and ages. If you are alone and outside at night in a heavily trafficked area, you WILL be picked up by the police no matter who you are and what you look like, even if your neon green vinyl miniskirt and fishnets are still hanging in the closet. ;) I know because I have been arrested for prostituation...when I was standing outside smoking a cigarette in my Olive Garden uniform. And man, I am the furthest thing from a prostitute. It just goes to show that any woman looks like a hooker and any hooker looks like a regular woman.

The ones I see around are usually wearing sneakers and thrift store jeans and are often gross-skinny from meth addiction but usually very average looking, except for haggard faces, ratty hair, and sad eyes.

I agree with the others. If you truly consider yourself an actress, you can look anyway you want and still play the part of a prostitute convincingly, and make the audience really believe you are one. The pros say it comes from inside (the acting).

Break a leg! :D

Frank Wildhorn's Jekyll and Hyde???

If so, that is a great work of art. Congrats on getting the role :D It's one of my favorite plays :)

Yup, the very same Frank Wildhorn! Kinda weird... I'm probably the most un-hookerish person you could find!

most hookers are drug addicted with bad teeth, scars, scabs, and holes in their veins. 99% of this board is "unhookerish"

the "unhookerish" comment wasn't meant to offend anyone, or to suggest that others are... hookerish. I only meant to say that I'm just about as far from anything crude as you can get. When my friends tell crude jokes, all they have to say is "earmuffs," and I'll cover my ears. I just don't appreciate or really feel comfortable with all that stuff. So that's all that comment was meant for. Not to suggest that 99% of this board are drug addticted, have bad teeth, scars, scabs, or holes in their veins.

Watch the film "monster" w/ Charlize Theron-- Hookers usually do the work they do because of horrendous childhood trauma, often rape by family members, and feeling they are not good for any other work. Add to that drug and alcohol abuse, co-dependancy, exploitation, lack of proper medical access, lack or education, poverty... you get the picture. I guess it all depends on whether the director wants high camp, or realism. (I've also seen some fabulous photos (Avedon etc.) of stage actresses and many look "average."
