Sidecar is doing a deal for Pigs Peace Sanctuary on (I think) May 28. Judy and one of the pigs will be visiting the store and the store will be donating some proceeds of sales to the sanctuary. Kewl stuff!

For those of you in the Seattle area who may not know, there is now a vegan foods & clothing shop called Sidecar across the street from Pizza Pi.
I love Sidecar! Went there for the first time a few weeks ago. Got some Choco Soy soymilk chocolates ( it was crumbly, eesh!) and a pussy pucker pot, which i proptly ran through the wash, ruining all my clothes! Oops. :dunce: They have lots of other exciting stuff that you would normally have to order online. :D

Yep. Right at 55th & the ave.
They don't have much (if anything) food wise that I can't find at my co-op and they aren't really on my regular path, but it's cool they are there and doing what they can to bring vegan products to the area. When I get around to needing some new shoes, they will be my first stop.

I stopped in on Saturday. I didn't really need anything, but bought some Stonewall's and a Chick-o-stick to support them. The guy at the counter was really friendly - a nice contrast to the surliness across the street.

Cool! What do your parents do for a living that lets you live there?
my mum works for a magazine, but on the occasion she has to go back to Redmond for staff meetings and my dad works for this company that helps low income families build houses on Friday Harbor. And Im working at a convelecent home on Friday Harbor as well.

Hey Whitney, my friends' mom lives on Lopez! I love it up there. Maybe I've even seen you around. I worked there doing tickets for the sitar players and Laura Love and stuff. Their mom runs Lopez center. When I stayed on Lopez I lived in a giant old teepee until the 4th of July field fire, and then it blew away shortly after during a windstorm :(
I'm new to the board too. I live in Seattle, and I'm from TX, where I until just a few minutes ago was nearly uninhabited by vegetarians. My family thinks I'm weird (except my sis) and my farmer grandma thinks I'm going to die soon and won't cook for me. Anyway, Seattle is veggie heaven compared to my TX experience! I didn't even know what organic food was...
I just moved up here a year ago so Im not sure if you have lol, but hell if you come up here anytime..Ill definitly have to look you up =). Seattle has great places to get vegitarian stuff, especially in Seattle like PCC.
my parents thought I was wierd at first now they support me although when I offer some Tofu to them..they cringe lol! My grandparents don't know yet..but Im sure they won't mind because they're health nuts

New neighbors in Stanwood...
I posted this link in the news section but thought the locals should know about it also. This is a huge financial undertaking for the sanctuary and if you have any extra pence to spare, I know the pigs would greatly and directly benefit from your generosity.

I don't know if anyone's asked this, but please forgive me if this is a frequent question... too many posts to read everything... but are there any non-leather shops around Seattle that sell shoes? It's a problem, I live downtown and can't really travel far from there, because I don't have a car, and I thought Payless was my salvation. But I went there and was shocked to find that most of the shoes that looked so good online were pretty much molded PLASTIC like McDonald's toys. Ross used to be a place to go but it's gone downhill, and the only other places around are Hot Topic and Old Navy. Not a lot of selection. Besides being too expensive for me, Nordstrom and Macy's pretty much don't carry ANYTHING non leather. I'm about at the end of my rope with all this business, especially adding in this bohemian trend, which makes it impossible for me to find things in stores that is just regular and non-trendy. I'm going completely insane.

I like fashion bug, not sure if they have one downtown or not though, but they usually have a lot of non leather shoes.

I was there. It's covered pretty well in the Portland Gathering thread. Just four of us total.
hi. i just have a few questions for people who live in seattle.
i'll be there for a few days & i'll be staying near the moore theatre for at least 2 nights.
i was just wondering if there are any vegan restaurants around there because it doesn't seem like it. but... i suck at maps so i wouldn't really know anyhow. what do you recommend i do for food? (i mean... as far as eating out goes)
also... how hard is it to get around without a car?

The closest all-vegan restaurant I know about is Wholesome Vegestasia, 668 South King St. Bus service in the core downtown area http://transit.metrokc.gov/tops/bus/area_maps/seattle_cbd.html is free until 7pm. WV is just one block outside of the ride-free zone so you should be able to get there easily. Or, if you don't mind walking, it's walkable. One area that you'd be walking through, though, isn't the best at night, so if you're alone stick to daylight.
You can also bus reasonably close to Teapot Vegetarian House, which I heartily recommend. 125 15th Ave E in the Capital Hill neighborhood. Also in that area, at John x Broadway, is Queen of Sheba, an Ethiopian place that describes their veggie combo as vegan. Depending how much you like to walk, it's ~1.8 miles each way.
You can also bus easily to Araya's, wonderful vegan Thai with a great lunch buffet. 1121 NE 45th St in the UW district. About 5 blocks away can be found Pizza Pi, a surly but vegan pizza joint, and Sidecar, an all-vegan shop.
