Thank you for signing my guestbook, cymbeline :)

Amen, Erin. Amen.
I just wish more people were understanding about that. I didn't make them a part of my family only to abandon them when things got rough. My animals stick by me and I will do the same for them.

I've lived places where there were some individuals who would travel slow in the fast or passing lane. I might run into two or three during a 30 minute freeway/highway drive in those places. However, in Washington state, I've been wondering if the idea of this type of lane has been tossed out the window. Here, it isn't two or three; if the freeway is fairly clear, I'm passing car after car after 18-wheeler on the right.

On another note, I also seem to notice that there are more "slower" drivers on the road than fast - people doing under 60 in a 60mph zone, whether in the passing lane or not. Not much of a gripe, just my own observation. At times, especially after a hard day's work, I enjoy the caterpillar trail of sub-60mph vehicles in the slow lane. I just find my spot, increase the volume on my CD player, and sing my sad songs. It's very relaxing.

Alas, where are the Washies?

I periodically get notices from the Seattle Vegan Meetup about upcoming Meetups here. However, due to my extreme social anxiety, I can never bring myself to attend. Anyone here regularly attend? Or at least been to one?

VegFest is coming to the Seattle Center next weekend (12-13th). It's a pretty cool event and definitely worth the price of admission. There might be reps from various local vegan groups hosting some sort of info tables. I know Vegetarians of Washington does a big membership push there - not surprising since they are the event host.

See this page for more info: http://www.vegofwa.org/vegfest/default.html

yeah, someone started a thread about VegFest in the "Vegetarian and Vegan" forum. I really enjoyed going last year.

You definitely get more than $5 worth of free samples! :lick:

By the way, I met Winking Turtle and must say that she is very cool. Has three cool cats, too, at least two of which are overly curious, but hey, that's what killed the cat.

I spent my New Year's with her and am happy that she accepted my curious, snoopy company.

Her French-pressed tea was excellent. I recommend it if you're ever at Chez Winking Turtle.

Thanks, Jeffrey!

We were glad to have you over and enjoyed your company greatly. I don't recall you being snoopy so you must have been quite stealth about it. The creatures are always happy to have a friendly lap to shed on.

It's almost too warm for tea anymore. Bumming me out.

'Twas me that started that thread - aww... I didn't even know anyone read it! I'll be going this year again too! We'll have to all meet up or something.... Can't have those East Coast people having a get together before WE do!!

I attended today's, which was my first. There was some confusion about location, but eight of us showed up at Wholesome Vegetasia and had a great meal with great company.

Does your social anxiety have a threshold for number of people before it kicks in? You might try setting up a mini-meet with just one or two other people to see how it goes. Maybe in time you could work up to the VegOfWA dinners, where eight people are seated per long table.

"Wholesome Vegetasia"...

What is this? And where? Sounds like a good place to eat?!

I can't ever make it to their meetings, though I used to get flyers... too many things happening around these parts!

It's an all-vegan Chinese restaurant on King St., between 7th & Maynard Aves. It hasn't been open very long.

hey...have any of you gone to the Pizza Pi Pizzeria on the Ave (University). It's supposed to be a vegan pizza place, with a lot of fake meat, fake cheese pizzas. I've never gone but I'm a little wary of fake cheese!

I went by there last night, actually, but they were closed for the day. I've heard both rave and rant reviews.

I ended up at Araya's instead.

Mmmmmmm...Arayas. Vegan Phad Thai. Black rice pudding with coconut milk on top. I love that place...it's been too long since I last visited. :lick:

I tried the potstickers last night -- they were okay, but I prefer Teapot's.

Oh, and Araya's is moving to somewhere on 45th in a couple of weeks -- the building is being torn down.

Colorful ~ I'm wary of fake cheese as well but I have heard only good things about Pizza Pi. It just seems easier to make my own rather than go *all* the way to the U District. That's partially a joke since I live on Capitol Hill but I don't have a circle of friends who would be much into vegan pizza. Me eating veg*n food is one thing, but dragging them into it with no other option at a restaurant is quite a different number. Bamboo garden, I have some luck with. That almond 'chicken' gets most anyone.

I was sort of underwelmed with Pizza Pi. It was ok, but I make better vegan pizza at home using Vegan Gourmet. Might be something nice if I lived nearby and was feeling lazy, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it again. Still something you'd probably want to try at least once for yourself.

I can see I've been in the backwoods of outer Graham for far too long! All those places sound YUMMY!

We do Teapot and Bamboo garden and some others, but I'll have to check out the Pizza place, just for kicks, next time I'm up there... I do 'regular' pizza too, being "only" a lacto-ovo... but I prefer vegan alternatives if I can get them.

Oh yay! They did find another place to move to! I read in the UW paper that they were just closing, so I was super sad. Thats good to hear.

I think I've said this before, but I'm not a fan of Pizza Pi. The crust tastes like cardboard and the cheese clumped together and stuck to the roof of my mouth like peanut butter  Unfortunate that my omni ex and i got pizza from there on like our 2nd date. He must have thought that vegan food was nasty.

Hey, is your avatar the Ivar's dude?

Is DBT the **** or what?

You going to VegFest?

I've had one pizza from Pizza Pi and absolutely loved it. I didn't care for the owner, though. He didn't seem very friendly that afternoon.

I noticed that too when I went there jeffrey. The guy behind the counter (presumably the owner) was pretty surly. That may have colored my opinion of the food somewhat.

Hey, is your avatar the Ivar's dude?

Nope! Though I do know the words to Ivar's little ditty "Hail To The Halibut" and can butcher the tune nicely when I sing it.

Is DBT the **** or what?

ETA: I finally got it. Yes. DBT = the bomb diggety.

You going to VegFest?

That's the plan.

So, did anyone go to VegFest today?

We're planning on heading down there tomorrow afternoon. I hope the day turns out as sunny and beautiful as today was!

Too bad I won't know any of you if I see you!
