Seafair is also an excellent time to battle crowds and gridlock anywhere one goes.
Today was clear with a high of 85.

WonderRandy; we looked for Espresso Vivace just for you, but evidently MapQuest didn't know where it was... :(
It's just off Broadway on E. Denny Way. They also have an espresso cart a couple blocks down B'way.

I've been tasked at updating the http://www.vegseattle.com site. I welcome suggestions for additions and corrections.

anyone ever go to Espresso Vivace on Capitol Hill? I lurrrrve that place!!!!! The best coffee on the planet!
I've been there! It wasn't the yummiest coffee I've ever had, but my tastebuds are more used to horrid sugary starbucks stuff. The flower thing they make in the coffees are awesome, and I like the atmosphere there. Good place to go and hang out with people.

I usually hear people describe Starbucks' offerings as burnt hence references to them as Charbucks.

Starryeyed - why haven't you met up with us Seattle-area VBers at Araya's for lunch? We're a harmless little crowd...

Because my parents are crazy and way over protective. I'm moving out in a couple of weeks though. I'll be living within a (long) walk of Arayas at my new place. :D So I'll definitely try to meet up with you guys then.
I've never thought starbucks has tasted burnt at all. I usually get a latte with syrup though, so it kind of overpowers the coffee taste. Tully's is the one that I think tastes burnt. Horrid stuff. Have to get syrup and use 2 packets of sugar for it to be drinkable.

I personally like Starbucks as well, their coffee AND their service are excellent (and since they're so freaking popular, most of the world must feel the same...).
I just much prefer to patronize the smaller "Mom and Pop" stores and individually owned stands.
Any photos taken at the last Araya's gathering?

Not at this second one, I think, but then I was pretty out of it.

I meant to bring my camera but I forgot. I don't think there were any new faces except angelene17 and she left pretty quickly. Oh, and my sister, but she's not a VB member.

I had my camera and totally forgot...
Thats what you get for not attending - you miss out on seeing our purty faces in person :D
I have a great picture of us AFTER the gathering, I introduced my friend to the (questionable) wonders of "Bubble Tea" and we were laughing our heads off at her reaction... I'll post that when I feel energetic...
"Bubble Tea", hmmm. sounds ilicit. :beatnik: :D

Well, this sounds like a fun bunch!
I just 'found' Araya's myself. Now I'm hooked.
Anyone ever go to Bamboo Garden or Teapot? Those are two other favorites of mine.

New restaurant alert: The Healthy Hedon! On Belmont, between Denny & Olive on Capitol Hill. (Right next to The Stumbling Monk and Half Price Books.)
It's a smallish place but well worth the trip. Mostly vegan (there is cheese in some dishes but I think it's all veganizable), they have some nice looking salads and faux meat dishes.
I had the Catch a Fyah - five or six 'chicken wings' with fantastic sauces for dipping, seasoned greens salad, foccacia and herbed pineapple wedge. The flavors were amazing and I left really satisfied. The staff was friendly and welcoming - the chef/owner came out to chat a few times and the dishes other people were eating looked amazing as well. Entrees were in the mid teens, $wise. They had a dessert case with seven or eight flavors of silken tofu pie that all looked heavenly but I didn't sample this go around.
They will also have a Sunday brunch buffet from noon - 4pm.
Totally recommend a stop in for a meal. Don't recommend stopping in when you are in a rush though.
And for as much as I hate Myspace and find the 'about me' section a bit overwhelming in the textwithnolinebreaks department, I'm putting this up anyways, since there are piccys of the place to be viewed at the bottom. http://myspace.com/healthyhedon
Go there and eat!

So I tried the healthy hedon and wasn't a big fan, the food was interesting. I may go back again in the future. Sauces were a little too spicy for me. Has anyone ever had the cinnamon rolls at cinnamon works bakery. I would love to try those but never seem to be able to find them when I go. Does anyone know exactly where it is?

Hmmm... haven't heard of Cinnamon Works. Where is it?
Honey Bear made great cinnamon rolls that were vegan years ago. Don't know if the place is still around though.
I'm thinking about trying the Healthy Hedon with my kids - I like the idea and they all love LOVE spicy stuff!

I think Cinnamon Works is in Pike Place, but I dont know cause I cant find it.
Can one of my fellow Seattle vegs help me?
I've been looking all over for the Health is Wealth vegan buffalo wings, but can't find them anywhere. Does anyone know a store that stocks them regularly?

Quasi- Have you checked the whole foods in bellevue? I've never actually looked for the buffalo wings there, but I know they carry the chicken nuggets. :)

it has been a long time since I have been to Pike Place, but there used to be a bakery on the main floor (street level) as you are walking down Pike they would be on your left as your looking at the fish stands, about halfway down.
There was another bakery type store kinda in the same area but it was sorta tucked kinda back off the main path and I only found it by mistake one yr.
Anyone know id Pipe Palace is still there or did they finally close down?
here's some other options:

Hi- old thread, I know. But has anyone else hit up Pizza Pi (on the ave in the U district of seattle) since it changed management? It's INCREDIBLE. If you get the chance- try the Rainy Day pizza or whatever it is called. It's simply the best pizza EVER, it far exceeds anything you'd find from Amy's frozen pizza.
