Washington native also! What can be said - The whole Pacific Northwest is just awsome! I'ts all good - the sun, the green, the rain, the smily face clouds, the deers, the street markets, mountains, lakes, ocean, and the people are pretty, eclectic, mindful and warm as well - it's all good!
Traffic all around & sprawl into the country sides is really getting harsh though. I suspect the whole US is having the same problems though. We could use alot more plans & action for conservation of neighborhood areas & green areas - "move up, not out" I say, but anyhow...

I agree, we have such beautiful forests, but because of all the forests, that also leads to foresting. It's real sad. Then you get all the animals running out into the roads, becasue their home has been cut down, and they get hit by cars or have to live in back yards and die eventually ffom lack of food.

Yes, us humans can be so indelicate and blind.
Balance, more simplicity and compassion are better ways.

I'm another transplant/import/nomad that came to Washington from somewhere else and let me tell you.... I love this state! It really is the "all in one" place. Mountains, water, trees, farmlands, desert, small towns, big cities, ... what's not to love about this place? I even love the weather. You have 4 definate seasons up here. Sometimes, you get them all in one day but I don't mind. :D I love that it can be 95 degrees and blistering hot one day and then be 45 degrees and overcast the next or raining like mad one day and clear as a bell the next. Gotta love it!
I hope I never leave this state. This is truely the best place on earth!

I've been spending a lot of time on http://www.realtor.com looking at houses around Tacoma. We want to buy something with a fair amount of land - an acre or so. So far Roy, Spanaway and Puallyap(sp?) seem to have the best prices for what we are looking for.
Can anyone tell me what those areas are like? I'd really appreciate it. You can pm me.
Thank you! :)
THere were clouds this morning, I SWEAR!

Greetings Washingtonians,
I'm curious to know if anyone on this thread lives in Whatcom County, I started a veg group there and it's flourishing, great people, I still read posts on the elist daily. If anyone wants to know how to get on the elist I could send you a subscription and introduce you to the folks. There are weekly meetings, tabling events, vegan potlucks and support for vegetarians, vegans, raw foodists and fruitarians.

I'm guessing the weather is also similar to that of San Jose at present? in the 80's warm and a bit humid?

OK, its an e-mail from my brother, and some will be seen as offensive, but hey, skip to the end. And if you are from DC, my regretts, come see us.
Once upon a time, God was missing for six days. Eventually, Michael the archangel found him, resting on the seventh day.
He inquired of God."Where have you been?"
God sighed a deep sigh of satisfaction, and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, "Look, Michael. Look what I've made."
Archangel Michael looked puzzled, and said,"What is it?"
"It's a planet," replied God, "and I've put Life on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a great place of balance."
"Balance?" Inquired Michael, still confused.
God explained, pointing to different parts of earth . . .
"For example, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while southern Europe is going to be poor -
Over there I've placed a continent of white people, and over there is a Continent of black people,"
God continued pointing to different countries.
"This one will be extremely hot, while this one will be very cold and covered in ice."
The Archangel, impressed by God's work, then pointed to a land mass and said, "What's that one?"
"Ah," said God.. "That's Washington State the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful streams, hills, and forests ... The people from Washington State are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent and humorous, and they are going to be found traveling the world. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking, and high-achieving, and they will be known throughout the world - as diplomats, and carriers of peace ."
Michael gasped in wonder and admiration, but then proclaimed,
"What about balance, God? You said there would be balance!"
God smiled, "Wait until you see the type of people I put in the other Washington."

Us Worshingtonians have been mighty quiet since the get together. See, we all scared each other and now we live in fear of future gatherings :p.
So, Jess B still owes us some brownies, y'know? I stopped holding my breath shortly after the trip to the hospital for passing out, hehe.
How did that go? I'm really really sorry I missed it now...

It was fun and real laid back. We pretty much just hung out at the park and talked a lot. Did you check out the photos in the album?

I dont live in Washington but my sister does. Her husband is in the Navy and he is stationed in Bangor. Washington is a gorgeous state. I visited for the first time last June and it was love at first sight. You guys that live there, you are so lucky. I'm coming for a visit again the first week of may. I cant wait.
Grew up in Everett/Lake Stevens/Whidbey Island. Now I live in Robe Valley behind Mt Pilchuck.
What a great Valentines Day! The weather was amazing. The Prince and I planned on catching the 6:30am Edmonds-Kingston Ferry to catch the sunrise from the boat then spend the day putting around Kitsap. Instead my youngest got a flat tire on the Lake Stevens (Hewitt Ave.) Trestle and needed to be rescued at 1am. Needless to say we got a much later start then we had planned.
Steve Pool or whoever his clone is on KIRO (andy w?) promised buckets of rain but that never happened. We did not get to Edmonds until late noon but did not have to wait long for a boat. We had bought coffee in Lake Stevens and could have used a reheat in the ferry line, or at least on the boat but of course there is no vendor on the boats. (I've been told that taco bell is trying to get the contract) I had packed strawberries in the picnic basket for breakfast but they made a great brunch. The boat was full of people dressed in Red, fun ride.
Our first stop was the Point No Point lighthouse. What a beautiful beach. So clean. The beach dogs are friendly and though the shore is covered with houses, they are regular homes instead of mansions. No one seems to mind if you walk in front of their place. The Prince and I are very armature bird watchers and there is a bird sanctuary on the lighthouse grounds (probably because that land isn't suitable for building?) but it is still early for casual bird watching. We will come here again.
Next we went east to Twin Spits, which is all about expensive homes, stay off of our beach and nasty tempered dogs. The public beach area is about ten feet wide on the south spit, none on the north spit. Next time we will skip this one, not even that pretty of a drive with all the privacy hedges you cannot even get a glimpse of the sea. The drive south to Little Boston was like a step into poverty (but what a place to be poverty stricken) From here you could see the Hood Canal Bridge. We stopped for coffee (we hit so many ports and points that I do not remember the name of this place) and decided to change our plans. Originally we thought we would go to the Chief Seattle grave and museum then to Winslow for dinner and a ferry home. We decided to instead cross the Hood Canal Bridge into Jefferson County, work our way around to the Keystone/Ft. Casey ferry and come home on the Mukilteo ferry. Good choice. We both felt well dressed for birds but not for dinner in Winslow. First we stopped and walked around Port Gamble. Cute. There is a place called La La Land Chocolates that serves a chocolate high tea. Great idea.... if it were vegan. I may try to make one myself someday. We were getting VERY hungry. Strawberries don't really stay with you. I forgot I had packed Luna Bars. We ate the crackers that I had packed with the pink Champaign but that wasn't enough. We could not find any place to eat on the east side of Jefferson Co. There was a restaurant in Port Ludlow, but we were guessing steak house, we should have at least gone in and looked at a menu I guess. Finally in Port Hadlock we found a QFC and thought we could put together something there. I am guessing that there are few vegans in Port Hadlock. We took our meager meal to the Old Fort Townsend St. Park where I got a new earring (we split a pair of diamond studs instead of wearing rings) and a very naughty valentine.
Home on a crowded Keystone Ferry and front and center parking on the Clinton/Mukilteo ferry (we did not even need to get out of the truck for a great night view) Great day.
