Pesto Stuffed Mushrooms will be posted in the recipe section shortly, look for it there.
So - it's so unfair... Anthony getting to meet other VBers and all... Angelene17, would you get together with some of us sometime in Seattle for dinner? Like Bamboo Garden or Arayas? We'll force Skanky to come too...

You're military?
yes.. Not the most fabulous job in the world... but I joined during the Clinton administration when I was barely 18 (about five years ago...signed a 6 year contract) and I figured that the likelihood of having to go to war while a democrat was in office was slim... Sigh. I just hate it when people automatically assume that I support what's going on in the middle east, and the views of the current president in office. So no, I'm not the typical military type :) Just felt like I had to mention that.
The job itself isn't so horrible.. I'm a hospital corpsman (medic) so I get to "fix" people, which is something I love doing...and it'll help me get my foot in the door for nursing school.

Hey, no problem. One of the people active in NARN is in the Navy, and she sure isn't a a typical military type either. I met someone else recently who was an army nurse for twelve years but got out because she couldn't stomach the current regime and their actions.

Let's aim for the 12/10-11 weekend, when BPS may be up here too. 12/10 there's a NARN meeting at Hillside Quickies where we'll be drawing the winners in the Free Bamboo benefit raffle http://www.freebamboo.org, so we could maybe meet there and then, or a little later at Araya's buffet :lick:

Angelene17 I sympathize completely. I joined in 97 and I have at least another 8 years. I like my job, but I don't necessarily agree with every decision made way way way above me.
Skanky, it's funny that you mentioned Hanford. When my Grandfather returned from Europe (WWII) he was hired at Hanford (I believe as a safety guy, but I'm not really sure). He worked there his entire career, retiring when I was a very young girl. The hazardous waste etc was a no-no topic at my Grandparents. My Grandfather had to mentally block out all the damage that was done, because he loved children so much and the knowledge that he may have harmed them...well, my parents didn't go into a lot of detail when they talked to me about this, but Grandpa just couldn't believe it, deal with it, whatever you want to call it. He was a good man involved in some bad stuff, good intentions, bad results. But I love him, and miss him, and wish he was still alive.
Anyways.

Wow - what sort of deal requires 16 years of service? Putting you through med school?

My dad worked on pellets (in southwestern PA) for fuel rods that ended up there.

I did 4 years at the Air Force Academy (technically active duty), 1 year waiting for pilot training, 2 years in pilot training, and after that you have a 10 year commitment (starting the day you finish pilot training). It's a loooong commitment for a reason. First of all, it costs about $1 million to train a pilot all the way through. They want their money's worth. Plus, they want to put us in a position where our commitment runs out, and we figure we may as well stay in until retirement since we've already been in so long.

how was the thanksgiving eats?
Delicious :lick: About fifteen people came, bringing UnTurkey, Tofurky, potatoes, veggies, pies, fruit, breads, etc. I'm finishing the leftovers of a big pan of great stuffing that someone brought.
Here are some photos

We watched A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, and by popular demand, some HR Pufnstuf. I gave out jars of Magic Mushroom popcorn.

I'm glad you explained about the Magic Mushroom Popcorn to me the other day or I would have thought it was something else...
Looks like you had WAY too much fun. I'll spare you MY misadventures - you can read all about 'em in one of the "Veggie Thanksgiving" threads...
So peeps... are we gonna get together on the 12th of December (or close, I can't remember for sure) for lunch? Is Arayas a buffet on weekends? What time? I *may* have trouble getting there beforre like..um..1:30 but would REALLY like to go!!

I'm thinking 12/10, Saturday. I don't think the buffet runs on Sunday.
