Hi Tycoles!
The Richmond Vegetarian Festival is wonderful - so much wonderful food! I'm planning be at the Richmond Animal League table handing out literature on our shelter.
Ellwood Thompson is good - however I spent today in Charlottesville and went to a Whole Foods for the first time, and boy, am I envious! I want one close by.
Are you near Carytown? There's lots of veggie options in that area.
Glad you said hello!
Whole Foods is coming to Richmond in early 2008. Its supposed to be somewhere on Broad St. I have never been to a Whole Foods before, so I am looking forward to seeing it.
I went to Veggie Fest, and it was a lot of fun. I wish I had seen your post before. I would have stopped at your table to say hello. Looked like a great turn out. I haven't really eaten anywhere in Carytown, but I am going to the Water Melon festival this Sunday, and will probably have lunch down there then.
Whole Foods is coming to Midlothian Turnpike, too - yeah! - but I dont' know when!
I'll be at the Watermelon festival, too, if it's not too hot. If you see a lady with two Chihuahuas (one mostly black, and one black and white!), say "hi" 'cause it will probably be me!

Midlothian turnpike?!?! Even better for me! I live in Chesterfield. I can't wait.
It didn't work out, but thanks for the tips. :)
I can't say I'm disappointed, I wasn't really keen on the idea of moving up there, although I'm sure it's a nice place.

Haven't joined them yet. I am planning to, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I will probably join this month though.

:D It's nice to know there are other vegetarians in Virginia.
I live in Spotsylvania, I work in Fredericksburg, and I went to college near Roanoke, VA (Ferrum College). Also, my boyfriend lives in Chesterfield and we hang out in Richmond.
There's one or two health food stores in Spotsylvania, but one of the Food Lions cleaned up real nice and they have organic and health food products now. Also, Radhuni's Resturant has really, really good Indian food. I tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Oh, my gosh. So good. It's kind of expensive right off the menu, but the restaurant also has a lunchtime buffet. Other than that, I love eating Mexican food and Chinese food. :hungry:
Hello everyone. I'm new here. My girlfriend and I (both vegan) live in Roanoke. We also started a vegan/vegetarian group in the area, and would love to have any of you be a part of it. More info can be found at groups.yahoo.com/group/swvavegans
Sorry, I can't post the direct URL until I have 15 posts, so you'll have to cut and paste.

Anybody know of any veg*n, or at least veg friendly, restaurants in Roanoke? I'm going to be visiting and was hoping for a nice meal. The only one I've been able to locate is Nawab Indian Cuisine. Has anyone been there?

In the February 21 issue of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, there is an article on local vegans and other tidbits of veganism.

I live in Henrico County, in Richmond, VA! Hello fellow Virginians!!!!! Does anyone know about any Vegetarian festivals?:bobo:
Hi! June 23rd, 2007, Bryan Park. It's a lot of fun - and lots of good food! The Vegetarian Society of Richmond has one every summer.
If you would be interested in volunteering, the VSR is always looking for help!
There's also one in Charlottesville in the fall.

I hear the one in Charlottesville is pretty good and am going to try and make it this year. I live in Virginia Beach which is three hours from both Richmond and Charlottesville. I really want to stay at The White Pig B&B if I can make that festival...
Any more info on the Richmond one? Or anyone know of any veggie fun in Hampton Roads? I get so lonely down here with all these Omni's :)

No way!! I'm so jealous :) We were planning on it last month but had to stay home for finacial reasons...
Please- let me know what you think! I hope it's nice weather for you two so you can stroll those gardens. Oh and the food... I can hardly imagine. I hear the woman who runs the place is awesome and a fantastic cook. Have a blast!

Ooh, the White Pig! My husband and I stayed there for a couple of nights last year for our anniversary  , and it was so nice. The owner/chef, Dina, is great, and a fantastic cook. And the pigs are so cute. :smitten: As are the cats. ;) I hope you have/had fun!
The White Pig was pretty nice - and we had no complaints about the food at all! We stayed in the Jacob Room - the one with the big window, and it was lovely. We didn't like that there was really no way to get any ice, and thought that Dina's little notes all over the place directing us to wipe our feet, you can drink this - but don't drink that unless you pay, and to keep quiet after 10 (when we were the only ones in the house) to be a bit...well, annoying. There was no shampoo or the "crulty-free toiletries" as promised. And, it rained whe whole time we were there, so we didn't get to enjoy the paths or the pigs. We also had to open and shut that stupid gate in the pouring rain several times each day. All in all, it just didn't feel all that special - it felt like we were not completely welcome. So, I probably won't go back.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that! :( We found Dina to be an acquired taste, per se -- for the first day and night we didn't feel particularly, uh, cozy with her (OK, OK, we thought that she didn't like us!!), but something happened on that second day that made us click suddenly (I'm not sure what it was!).
That's weird about the toiletries, too. All the shampoo and soap and stuff we needed was provided.
Anyway, we're giving Farm Sanctuary a try this year for our anniversary so we won't be going back to the White Pig this time around either. I'm sorry you guys had a rough go of it, regardless!!

Will be going to Williamsburg this summer, and was just wondering if anyone had suggestions for vegan-friendly restaurants. Also, interested in whole food markets, or markets that carry vegan options. Thanks.
