That would be awesome if they did open a Spiral Diner in Dallas!! I absolutely love Cosmic Cafe and we have a fair amount of veggie options in the Dallas area, but they're all Indian based. I'd love to have a non-ethnic veggie restaurant nearby.

I ate at Cosmic Cafe last month - decent food, though the menu features a lot of dairy.

I read just that Spiral Diner is coming to Dallas! :)

Here is part of an email from the owner about the location:

"To everyone who has been waiting anxiously for news from Spiral Diner
Dallas, I have an exciting announcement! We finally found a location that
fits our needs and our budget, and for once, it just feels right. It's on
historic Swiss Avenue, within walking distance form Baylor hospital, the
Meadows Foundation, a Pilates studio, a park, a dog park, a shoe store
that sells vegan shoes, and a wildflower preserve. Who knew Dallas was so
cool? The building has a lot to offer us, and it is nestled in the middle
of a community that, like Fairmount in Fort Worth, will happily support
this kind of business......."

If you don't know the Spiral Diner - you NEED to! An amazing place owned by vegans serving tasty vegan diner style food.

Well, 30 minutes instead of an hour away, that's an improvement! I love that place. I'd go there every week if it wasn't so far away.

Pure Raw Cafe is not going to be opening. Cynthia Beavers, the owner, suffered a severe financial loss when she got screwed over by the landlords, and she can no longer afford to open a restaurant. She does, however, run an apparently successful home delivery raw meal business. You can sign up for the mailing list on the old website, www.purerawcafe.com. It's really expensive, but the food sounds amazing.

The farmer's market is on the east-ish side of downtown, at 1010 South Pearl Expy to be exact. There's signs all over downtown though with an arrow telling you how to get to it. I love to ride my bike to farmer's market and dumpster dive. And if you're into paying for your food, they have the most fabulous prices there. :)

Hey Houston vegetarians, I hear that Backstreet Cafe is having a special vegetarian wine dinner on Wednesday, June 14. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I called them and they're going to email me the menu and details tomorrow.

OK, here's the email announcement for the dinner:
Dear Friends,
It again is time to take a moment and indulge in the wonderful vegetables that so often adorn and enhance our plates. We thoroughly enjoyed putting on our last Veggie Wine Dinner and have been seeking an opportunity to do one ever since. Now that summer has arrived, the season of vegetables, it is time for our second vegetarian wine dinner. For our second dinner, I wanted more of a set theme, so we will feature wines and dishes with a nod to Italy’s Piedmont region. So, on Wednesday June 14th at 7:00, we will feature several new vegetarian creations and a wonderful array of wines.

The dishes for this dinner are new for us and focus on the ingredients in season right now. Freshness and seasonality are the most important aspects of cooking with vegetables as your feature. None of the dishes include the use of egg or meat based stock. For those of you who are allergic to certain vegetables, I might be able to make a substitution or two.

The food is designed to go with the excellent wines of the Piedmont region and will have an obvious Italian style. Piedmont, which means "foot of the mountain," refers to its place at the base of the Alps, which create the natural boundary between Italy and its two neighbors France and Switzerland. In my opinion, this region is home to Italy’s best wines, with an array of sparkling wines, fresh whites, and earthy and majestic reds. During the dinner we will try a very good example of each of the major wines of the Piedmont region. The reds, Barberesco & Barolo, are mammoth wines with depth and soul made from the Nebbiolo grape. Gavi, the signature white of the region is so good it will make you never want to touch Pinot Grigio again. Moscato d’asti is one of the world’s great dessert wines and is the signature sparkling wine of Piedmont. The dinner will feature wines from producers such as La Spinetta, Deforville, Marchesi, Massone, and Cerretto.

I was hoping to keep this dinner small and laid back, so no more than 24 attendees. That should be enough space to cover the sincere vegetarians out there (we know who you are) and a few admirers. The cost of the dinner is $78 per person not including tax and gratuity. For reservations please call me at 713-302-9087 or email. Have a great week and make sure you eat your vegetables.

Hi happyiguana! Welcome to Fort Worth! I don't actually live in Fort Worth...but I live nearby in Euless.

There is a great vegan restaurant in Fort Worth called the Spiral Diner. Their website is www.spiraldiner.com. Their food is awesome! There is also a local website www.dfwnetmall.com/veg/ that has great tips on local restaurants, and local groups too.

I know my way around town fairly well, so let me know if I can help out with anything else!

Kalachandji's.

Have you been to Taj Express on Lemmon near the Tollway? They aren't vegetarian- it's an all you can eat buffet and two dishes are meat, rest are vegetarian. They make their own nan from scratch and bake it in a tandoori pit and bring it out to your table and oh my sweet Lord it's AMAZING. They're just a little hole in the wall Indian place, no beautiful Krishna palace like at Kalachandji's, but the food is a LOT tastier than Kalachandji's.

I'm not aware of any all-veg restaurants, but when I was there, I ate at Boardwalk Bistro, which has a good-size vegetarian menu. I also ate at Adelante, which is very veggie and vegan friendly, but I didn't care for it that much. (PS: Word in the street is that the Bistro's tofu Caesar salad has anchovies in it.)

Thanks, Tess. I haven't been to the Boardwalk Bistro in a couple years, now I want to go back there. I remember their Mediterranean salad was really good (with cheese, of course).
