Catgirl67-I was only there two days. I could go to wineries forever. But, I know it is the case that wine is not usually vegan. I feel bad ignoring that fact but, ya know, I can't help it. It has no ingredient list so it is hard for me to connect wine to not vegan. I absolutely hated the Fredericksburg winery on the main street. First thing I walk in and this guy who is giving the tasting is making fun of a vegan who asked if they used fish whatever in processing. He was laughing and telling a couple about it like it was some great joke. I really didn't like how they had all these rules of tasting, like once you have gone to a sweeter wine, you cant go back to a dry wine. And also if you have tasted their jams and salsas that you are NOT allowed to taste wine. What is that crap about? Anyway, aside from that one I loved it too. Is Comfort close to Frederericksburg?

Comfort is about maybe 15-20 minutes from Fredericksburg. I really love the Hill Country. Fredericksburg isn't known for it's hospitality though. They can be downright rude to people who weren't born and raised in Fredericksburg, and who aren't 100% German. I don't care though. I go there to visit my friend, and shop! Kerville has great shopping. I've never been to the Herb Pharm. I'll have to check it out. I've heard great things about it.

I Im from Waco but going to school in a little Podunk town called Alpine. I know Alpine only has one natural foods store and no restaurants but does anyone know of any good places in the waco/Mclennan county area for veggies.

The HEBs on Hewitt Drive and Wooded Acres both have a health food section and a really nice produce section. The Wooded Acres location has the largest, but the Hewitt Drive location keeps expanding their selection.

Drug Emporium in Waco has lots of good veggie stuff or so I have heard. Another member here (MezzoEmmi) would talk about it all the time so I told some friends who are veg*ns in Waco and they just love it.

You gotta make it down to the big fancy new Whole Foods we have in Austin! :hi:

I really wish people that don't live inside the loop (though we don't either, it's only by about a quarter-mile) would stop thinking of Montrose as only "that gay part of town" :|

My wife and I love the Montrose area, too  I'm often there about once a week or two to visit friends on Fridays at KPFT, over on Lovett Blvd. You ever go to either Cafe Artiste or Taft Street Coffeehouse?

I love Artiste! I live right down the street from there. I used to go to Taft Street too. Have you ever been to the Central City Co-Op?

Yes, I volunteered with Central City for a few weeks but they were getting too many volunteers, so I stopped going. I'm a volunteer with Urban Harvest Community Gardens now. I like that organization much better.

We haven't been to any coffeeshops lately as our budget doesn't allow for that right now. Once I'm employed again we'll start going back. Artiste is best since smoking is allowed (for my wife, not I ;) ) and we will go just to read and sip tea/coffee.

Have you gone to Bell Park down the road? Even though it's right on Montrose, it is still a relaxing park to visit. Nothing like the Rothko Chapel, tho...:)

We'll have to meet sometime, too. We do have to get out of here every now and then, so maybe we can arrange something. That's pretty cool you live so close to Artiste, too. My wife, Dallas, has often commented that she'd love to live within walking distance of it :)

Ciao!

I just thought I'd poke my head in here and say that I'm new to the boards and live in the Dallas area. We have some good veggie groups around so if you're looking to meet new folks, drop me a line.

Anyone from Huntsville? I'm in Kansas right now, but I'm looking at Sam Houston State for graduate school and was wanting to know a little more about the area. I know it's fairly close to Houston, at least for a weekend trip or something, so that's a plus!!

If you want an affordable place to stay while you check it out yourself...

You have to plan way ahead, usually, because it often takes them almost a week to return calls, depending on what time of year it is. $15 per night for one person and they have a full kitchen so you can prepare your own food.

Hey Texans!

Just wanted to let you know about a great new veg restaurant in Austin. It is called Nu Age Cafe in Tarrytown and it is all vegan and very wonderful. I had the eggplant stuffed with herb soy cheese and brown rice and it was out of this world.
It is pricery than Veggie Heaven but worth it! yum!

Hi there!
Can I ask you a question? I'm not from Dallas, but I'm going to stay there for a couple of weeks to do work for my company. I'm probably going to stay at a hotel right in the centre of town. (Main Street to be precise.) Would you know if there are any veggie restaurants nearby? I've looked up some restaurants on happycow (http://www.happycow.net/north_america/usa/texas/dallas/index.html), but even with the address it's difficult (for me at least) to decide whether they are close to the city centre.

Any places you would like to recommend? (I'm a vegan, diet-wise.)
