Yeap, there are some farmers markets here. There's a big one right outside of the downtown area.
There is? I will have to check that out. Is it year-round? Where is it?
Fort Worth does have it's own Vegetarian Society. They have vegan potlukcs and eat at restaurants that serve veg*an food, like Spiral diner. I have not been to any of the meetings but I get the newsletter. Sounds like a cool way to meet others with like-minds.

I love the spiral Diner but I rarely get anythign there but spag and meat-less balls becuase I have cravings for it and don't go often enough to satisfy them.

Its right downtown by the rail station. Where the spiral diner used to be. A couple of friends of mine frequent there alot to get fruits and stuff. Last time I checked it was open year round. I'll see if I can find out for you.

Oh wow.. I am going to have to take a non-family, vegan trip to Houston, TX. (I have no fam in Houston)
Definitively! So far I've done the obvious ones:
- Tien Ren Vegetarian Restaurant (on Westheimer and S. Voss Rd) Sooo goood foood!!! Five stars on the reowned Indian Summer charts! All vegan. They have both a buffet and a menu.
- Garden Bistro (on Westheimer and Fondry Dr) Also very excellent food. (Though the waitress was a little weird... but nice :p). All vegan, buffet.
I've also been to The Pepper Tree (on Richmond Ave and Wesleyan, I think). All vegan, buffet. Unfortunately, I decided I wanted to try some of that fancy-looking green-ish souce... My taste buds went into coma :worried:
There are some interesting advice earlier in this thread. Must try some of those before I leave.

Yeap. The one in the rail station was the one I mentioned. The others are a bit smaller but just as good.

Yay! I'm gonna be out of town this weekend but sson I am going to check it out.
Is the rail-market one actually inside the building or is it outdoors?

Last time I checked, it was outdoors. They may have moved it in since. I haven't been there in ages.
Update: I just found out that the market in the rail market is no longer there.

I'm a newbie from Dallas also. :hi: I haven't run across any veg*ns yet either, which kinda sucks! Glad to hear there are other people out there. Dallas definitely does need to expand it's Veg*n restaurants.
And I'm sooooo excited to hear about all the restaurants in Houston!! :vebo: I go down there at least once a year (to Baytown actually) for racing events and I always try to stop in Houston to shop at the Galleria. Now I'll have some great choices in food too!

I recommend the ate layer burrito, the chilli, and the spaghetti. If you got a hankerin for dessert try the pie with the ice scream. Its delicious.

Mmmmm. The spaghetti is yummy, but the toast that comes with it is addictive. Dangit! Why did I have to read that post? I can't afford to go out to eat. :(
Welcome Risa!
What area of fort worth are you in? Fort worth has an active vegetarian society, if you are interested. They have vegan potlucks and meet to eat at veg friendly restaurants. :) I have not gone to any but I get the newsletter.
Hi Renaissance! I'm actually on the West side of the Midcities. Watagua/Haltom City area. I would LOVE to get that newsletter! How do I sign up?

Hello from Austin!!!
I just wanted to say that I got back from frederericksburg, you know super touristy, texan, german, bed and breakfasty, tourist attraction. I really had a good time. Went to several wineries(never thought tx wine would be good, but was), and I recommend two places to eat: THe herb farm and pasta bella. I had no trouble ordering from these places, and I hadn't gone to visit there yet because I thought I would never be able to eat anything there. You guys have heard of Fredercicksburg, right?

I LOVE fredericksburg! I have a friend who lives there. The Hill Country is awesome. If I had the money, I would move there. There is a really good vineyard in Comfort. Texas wine is super! How long were you there?

Hay from Houston! :hi:
Well, I finally got to eat at The Pepper Tree on my birthday, weekend before last, and have since gone back for "seconds" but as take out. The first time I had General Tso's Chicken and my wife had the Moo Goo Gai Pan. I tasted some of hers before digging into mine and was amazed at how much the fake chicken had not just the texture but taste of chicken. It was kind of weird since I haven't eaten real meat in several years now, but was happy to finally have a good sweet'n'sour type meal again without having to eat meat to do so. The first dine-in experience was good other than as I was at the counter paying for the meal, the waiter wasn't paying attention to where the take-out carton was on the table as he loaded my wife's meal into it and it all went on the floor! They offered a half-order to replace it (which was nice of them) but by then my wife was a bit miffed at having that happen she just wanted to get out and calm down. So, I felt bad that her experience was less than great and got take-out a few days later and it was all great :)
We usually get Thai food for our "Chinese" foods with Thai Cottage and Sawadee being our favorites. But it's nice to now have a third place for excellent Asian to go to other than Indian or Middle Eastern (which are also wonderful.) There was even a letter to the editor in the Houston Press recently of someone lamenting having to live in San Francisco and how Houston beats them for food-diversity hands down. I believe it, too, considering such things as Houston having the second-largest Indian population of the US and how in the Gulfton area there are at least 70 different dialects spoken (Spanish-type languages.) And I am happy to see more and more of the restaurants either happily offering veg*n foods or being mostly veg*n to begin with. Sure, this will still be a big place for BBQ/steak, but that culture will take a while to go away. Maybe once more meat-eaters get a taste of how good these fake meats can be, they'll start cutting back on the "real" thing and make the switch.
Anyway, just thought I'd post that we did have a good experience overall with The Pepper Tree and recommend it for both dine-in and take-out :)
