Another Houston person here!! Field of Greens, on West Alabama, is out of this world. Their chocolate silk tofu pie, is great. The owners are vegan and can veganize almost everything on the menu.
I will have to try Zabaks. I remember Mama's Po Boy. I love Middel Eastern food.
Just Kris, I work in the Med Center too. Where about do you work? I'm near Texas Women's Hospital.
St. Lukes and the O'Quinn Medical Towers! I went to Field of Greens one day. The food I had was ok, but the service was less than stellar. Had some great portabello fajitas at Hobbit Cafe though! Hadn't been there in years but I definitely won't be staying away that long again.

Yeah, sometimes Field of Gren's service, downright sucks, but I am addicted to the garlic dressing! I love Hobbit Cafe, but I liked it better when it was the Hobbit Hole.

It's not just you. I have lived in Houston most of my life. My friends used to rave about going to Corpus for spring break or for a long weekend. I never saw the appeal. It's a depressing, ugly, small town, and the water looks like a giant toilet that has never been flushed. I feel for you!! How much longer do you have to be there?

hey catgirl, thanks!
i'm only here til the end of february..not long. but i'm still thinking about leaving early.
haha, but part of the reason i don't like it is cause it's too big - i'm a small town kinda girl.
i'm working in Leakey , TX next (pop 387) wherei worked last year - i kept busy there all the time, crazy huh?
it is a depressing town though...and apparently the gang problem is pretty bad also.
ha! about the giant toilet...that water IS pretty nasty...ew!

I'm in Houston! Well, technically I'm just north of Houston, on the outskirts. I live in The Woodlands. But, I'm involved in multiple area meet-ups. BTW, Pepper Tree Veggie Cuisine on Richmond is the greatest!

I love The Woodlands because they don't have any telephone poles. I think that I would get lost a lot, though, because there are so many, well, woods! Beautiful there.

The U.S. Army has sentenced us to Ft. Hood. Heads up on any farmers markets or veg friendly restaurants in Copperas Cove, Killeen, or Temple would be MOST welcome.

Your best bets would be Austin or San Antonio for veggie food. I have never been to Killeen; but unless you are in one of the bigger cities in beef country, you likely will not find many restaurants for veggies.
On the other hand, you will be very close to the James Avery headquarters showroom! Lucky you..... love that place!

I live in the Heights, which is North Houston, but not as far North as The Woodlands. I lived there when I was in grade school. It's grown!!

They are opening a Dimassi's out in Clear Lake soon! Love Mediterranean food! I work just around down the street and around the corner from Pepper Tree (ok, not really, but the medical center is close enough) and I have never been there. Need to try it soon!
