Mmmmm...just got back from Green's with la familia. We loved it. I had the green burger, so yummy. The kiddos had the not dogs which they loved as well. I want to get my dogs from wherever they get theirs because the kids sure did like them better. My husband had the zucchini enchiladas and he cleaned his plate. For dessert we had that chocolate cake I heard about. Oh...my...gaw...Yeah, it was so good. Very filling and rich, we shared one piece there and brought home another piece to enjoy at another time. My husband was hoping to try out the carrot cake (he's a carrot cake freak) but they had none. Yes, definitely, I give this place 2 thumbs up.
I finally went to Green today. It seemed quite crowded which is definitely a good thing! My family and I shared the appetizer sampler and my sister and I split the portabello steak with fries and "veggie of the day" (which turned out to be green beans). Everything on the appetizer sampler was great! The onion rings were absolutely perfect. Not too greasy but crispy and flavorful. The sauce on the buffalo tofu wings had a wonderful spice and tanginess. My favorite of the lot were the chicken-fried wheat meat strips. The breading was just like I remember on the real stuff only with more flavor and less greasy and gross. I also really loved the gravy that came with it.
The portabello steak was good but too oily for me. The green beans that came with it were very southern, but not my style. Too mushy and over cooked in my opinion. We split the chocolate coffee cake for dessert. The frosting was amazing but the cake was a little dry and bitter in my opinion. Still good, but next time I think we'll get the regular chocolate cake since everyone is raving about it.

Hey Sally last time I was going through Waco I stopped to eat at Fazoli's and got a little lost on my way to find a gas station, and I found a little restaurant that had sandwiches, vegetarian chili, smoothies, and pizza. Tons of vegetarian stuff on the menu, and it was a tiny, family-owned place. I can't remember the name of it, do you know what I'm talking about?

Hmmm....do you know what part of Waco you were in? We have a lot of restaurants so I might know if you can remember something that was near by...Terry & Jo's Food for Thought comes to mind, if it was out near Baylor and across from H-E-B

She's in her second year there, I think. Her name is M4ry 4shley Gr3d3ll, she's involved with the school newspaper there if I remember correctly (or at least she used to be).

Yep, Terry & Jo's Food For Thought...that was it! I was really surprised to find something like that in Waco. Are there other veg-friendly places?

There are a few, mostly chains though...Camille's sidwalk Cafe in the new Cen Tex Market place has some good meatless wraps and sanwiches, and bigger chains like Backyard Burger (they have boca burgers) , Jason's Deli and Souper Salad all have vegetarian friendly stuff. Plus the new(ish) H-E-B in Hewitt has some really good vegetarian products. Waco didn't used to have anything but it is growing pretty fast and as it does more variety is comming in!
There is one other little place that I have yet to try that my mom told me about, I can't remember the name of it though...she said it is really good and lots of vegetarian stuff.

That's awesome! My sister is thinking about going to Baylor and she's vegetarian too. I'll have to pass along the info. And now I know I'll have some good places to eat next time I'm on my way to Austin. ;)

I live in the Hill Country. In the Deer Capital of Texas to be exact. Being a veg is going to be hard in some ways and easy in others here. I think the only thing made out of soy in the entire town is soy milk. I have to drive at least 45 minutes or so to do my grocery shopping. However, we do have some local farmers who grow all sorts of veggies, and I hear we are getting a farmer's market starting next month! I'm hoping someone actually has some "real" free range eggs.

where do you live? i'm moving to Leakey um, well, in a few days and am a little concerned about various things. i plan on living on pnut butter for a few months, heh...from what maps i've seen, san antonio looks like the closest biggish city, and that's even 100 miles away!

I live in Llano. I have never heard of Leakey. I'll have to check out a map on that one. If you can at least find a big HEB, you ought to be alright.

No way!! I'm from Euless! I was born and grew up there, graduated from Trinity!! I moved to San Antonio a couple years ago for school, but my family is still there. Dang, we probably have some kind of connection, since Euless is such dinky place.
My fiance and I are going up to visit next week for spring break, hurray!

The Spiral Diner has delicious sammiches and cookies, among other things. And all-you-can-eat pancakes on Sunday mornings! Go go go there a lot, DFWers.
