Anyone know of any veg restaurants having a Thanksgiving Dinner between San Antonio up to Austin (I live in New Braunfels). Don't feel like cooking, and I don't want to go to a regular rest. buffet either.

In past years I know that Mr Natural and Casa de Luz in Austin have done veg. Thanksgiving dinners but not on the actual day. I think Mr Natural's is the day before and Casa's might the weekend before...
They are my favorite veg spots since they are all vegetarian (and mostly vegan) in Austin.

PS. I am so jealous of DFW people who can go to the Spiral Diner classes! You are so Lucky!!!!

Thanks Spice. I sent an email to both of them asking if they are (or if they know who is).
I wish we had restaurants like those in New Braunfels (or even San Antonio!). It's not that much of a drive to Austin, but I hate wasting the gas going so far.

hello all!!
im new here in dfw, im coming from san antonio, and it seems like there's much more of a community up here than down there! i'm a cook at p.f. chang's in downtown f.w., and i love to cook at home, and test all my delightful veggie creations on my omni husband! i'm looking for some veggie buddies, so if anyone's got a potluck thing going on already, or wants to start one, let me know!

Hello,
Thanks for the Thai Dee recommendation. I've only been there once, probably 8 years ago, but I actually only live a few blocks away from it now. What dishes would you suggest there for vegans? Is there fish sauce or anything else I should watch out for?
In San Antonio, I like:
Zaki (best falafel in San Antonio, plus ful medames and yummy spinach pies!)
Adelante (great food, plus great people work in and own the place)
Madras Pavillion (lunch buffet includes a dosa, and they offer some veg dishes that the other Indian restaurants in SA don't)
JRL
awww **** yea!! i loooove thai dee, its one of my favorites! my fave is the red curry, but be sure to ask for tofu *and* mixed veggies, or else its just curry and tofu, no veggies. i also love the tom yum soup, but i've honestly never bothered to ask what kind of broth they use:-/ and if youre not vegan, the coconut ice cream with sticky rice is a must. daaamn, that **** is the bomb, son!
Down the road from Thai Dee there's a newish restaurant called Sawasdee. They have a whole vegetarian menu (with no fish sauce). The panang curry is to die for and the meal includes soup and spring roll.

DVMarie- I'm going to be making a vegan thanksgiving... I'll have to check with the other half (in Ft Worth right now eating at spiral diner every day)... we're just up the road in san marcos, but as far as I'm concerned the more the merrier...
Well you do have to promise you're not a Xochi-Eater (I do not know what a Mochi is, but thank goodness my daughter Xochi is not plant)

Unbitten- PFChang's downtown is my FILs favorite outing... you'll have to advise me on the vegan delights...
I'll see if you're around when we're up in the area, a potluck would be fun!

I eat there everyday, but seriously, watch out for p.f. changs. the veggie dishes are not what they claim to be!!
the only veggie dishes that actually are not made with a sauce containing chicken are:
-buddhas feast
-veggie lettuce wrap
-spring rolls (the dumplings are made with egg)
-veggie chow fun
-garlic spappeas or spinach
-ma po tofu
-coconut curry
-I'm not sure about the green beans or asparagus, those are questionable.
I think that's pretty much it. Anything else (like a noodle dish, or eggplant), you ought to specify to use only vegetarian sauce and water, instead of chicken stock and dark sauce. That's one thing that I don't like about that place--they shouldn't call it vegetarian if the sauce isn't!
oh and let me know when you're in town echo, a potluck sounds like fun!
The eggplant has chicken stock in it?!? I love their eggpant. . .why does everyone feel the need to put animal products on innocent vegetables?

It's cold here in San Antonio too.. It just literally happened like a few hours ago, wtf.
In other news, Green, San Antonio's first all-vegetarian restaurant has pushed back its opening date yet again until "early 2007." I'm being patient--from looking at his menu I am so sure that it's going to be worth the wait. Plus it's right down the street from school :D
Y'all stay warm!

I saw that about Green's opening now being in early 2007. I, too, have to be patient. I am very bad at that. I am so looking forward to their opening, though. Their menu looks awesome. On another note, I love this cold weather here in San Antonio. I miss this...
I finally get to wear my new coat! Cold makes me happy and I can't wait until next year when I'm living in the North East.

Ah Durn!! I didn't see this post until just now.
Mochi is pounded sweet rice (mochiko) that is made into flour. Then you can use the flour to make candy, cake, etc. etc. When you say mochi most people think of the jelly like substance that is sweetened and colored and eatch like a confection - but there are plenty of other ways to enjoy. Best of all no animals inside! :vebo:

My boyfriend is taking me to dallas for a day and I want to find a fun veg resteraunt (or one that at least has good veg options!). Any suggestions from people who know dallas?

Chevy is running this ad in Texas for pickup trucks that just makes me want to flee the state screaming. It goes...
"This is our front door": front gate of a cattle ranch
"This is our hors d'oeuvres": dozens of racks of ribs being barbecued
"This is our joyride": a rodeo cowboy riding a bucking horse
"This is our backbone": an oil rig in operation
A couple more that are about as bad...
The background music sings, "This country, it belongs to folks like you and me"
Why wasn't I born in Seattle???
BTW, joyous yule, everyone! :santa:
Fortunately, Tess, there is more diversity than that in Texas, but the stupid cowboy image sort of overwhelms it...
Last weekend I visited my sister and her husband in Austin and went out for lunch to one of the Kerbey Lane restaurants, really enjoyed the food, they have many vegetarian and even vegan choices.
