Wake up Tennessee thread!!
I'm considering moving to Nashville. Can anyone provide some insight into how veg-friendly Nashville is?
Are there at least SOME veg*n restaurants?
Have people there ever heard the term "vegan" or do they think you're an alien?
Hope someone can help!

Nashville is fairly veg*n UNfriendly. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 would be London, England--Nashville would be about a 2.

There are maybe 2 or 3 out of some 600 restaurants in Nashville.
If you mean restaurants offering some sort of veg*n selections, then there are maybe three or four dozen of these. See the following list (which is several years old):

Thanks, Joe. I live in rural IL now and I refuse to move to another area like it, as far as cultural acceptance for the Veg*n lifestyle.

Wow, well I live in Nashville and I can vouch for the fact that it is certainly not "rural" as far as its acceptance of vegetarianism! At least 5 of my friends are veg*n, and none of them are opposed to it. I can find at least one dish at almost any restaurant I go to, and by "dish" i don't mean iceberg-lettuce-with-a-tomato-slice-on-top. Nashville is really growing these days and it's a really great place. I love it. As far as restaurants go, there's an all-vegetarian Indian place called Woodlands, as well as an all-vegetarian, kosher cafe called Grins. There are a lot of other restaurants with good veg options though, such as tin angel, fido, etc. I guess you're not considering moving here any more, but I just wanted to defend it a bit! It's my home! :)

that's pretty amazing for how popular Nashville is, it seems like a busy place the last time I went and that's kind of amazing because here in Knoxville, Downtown there's at least 4 or 5 vegetarian/vegan aimed restaurants. when I say 'aimed' I do mean that the menu is at least half veg if not more.
unless you're talking about a completely vegetarian restaurant..

I just moved to Chatt! I'm kind of disappointed the only vegan restaurant is open for 2 or so hours a day... But I definitely like the city!

Yess, I definitely am already obsessed with Greenlife! I was shocked when I came here that Chattanooga has a store like that!
I am just a little disappointed that they don't sell a few of my favorite foods (soyrizo, better-than-cream cheese and sour cream!) but at least now I can stop buying most of my products over the Internet. I've actually never seen the old store - by the time I moved here (very recently) the new one had already taken over.
I still haven't gotten around to checking out the city for fun stuff to do, but I'm planning on it... I'm really hoping there may be a decent veg*an crowd here! (so far all I've seen are the basic health nuts) :)

Now that each state has its own forum I'll be closing the state threads. Please continue any discussion by starting a new thread in this forum. Thanks!
