i know NW veg does monthly dine outs and potlucks, but i'm thinking of starting a regular vegan potluck in my house in portland - maybe for the 20s and 30s vegan portland kids. . .hmmm. it might be fun. . .

i'm looking forward to veg fest!

Van Hahn at 8446 SE Division St., Portland OR

Very tasty, affordable Veggie/vegan Vietnamese cuisine.

The place looks like someone's house, not the greatest ambiance, but the food is very good.

Apparently it's all volunteer run, and proceeds go to a local Buddhist temple.

My partner had some Faux Chicken pokers that were delish. I settled with the special Vietnamese Crepes. They served me one which was a plate full, only to return in 5 minutes with my second one! For less then 6 bucks! Getting hungry just thinking about it.

In comparison a few months back we went to the trendy Pho Vahn which is "supposed" to be the greatest Vietnamese restaurant in Oregon...alas it was expensive, and the non meat choices er...choice...was just one dish. And the food just wasn't that good.

Wondering if anyone knows of a good place for vegetarian/vegan sushi in Portland. I know some of the sushi places here offer 1 type of veggie roll, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a place to order different types of veggie sushi or maybe a sushi place that just has an awesome veggie roll? Recommendations?

I'm looking for a place to move to at the end of the year. I like small towns but I'm hoping for one somewhat veggie friendly. Online the coos bay/north bend area looks really nice. Is anyone in that area or know what that area is like?

Is there a good website out there that gives information about veg restuarants in the portland area? I am thinking of planning a visit just to eat some good food. So far I think I am just committed to veganapolis. I also love recommendations if anyone has any. Thanks.

PM remilard, Oregon Amy, Gnome Chomsky or maybe even Mayuko. They all are very familiar with Portland and can give you great first-hand recommendations.

:)

I don't, however, recommend Veganopolis. Unless you want to pay $6 for a sandwich that contains two slices of bread from Grand Central baking company, some Tofurkey, Vegenaise, mustard, and veggies. And then a side salad. For $6, I want something I can't make at home.

Are you looking for vegan only, or lacto/ovo veg?

My favorite Portland Veg restaurants:

Kinta (on SE Belmont)
Blossoming Lotus (in the Pearl - NW)
Thai Food (many here in Portland, many with Veg options.. A MUST while you are here)
Kalga Cafe (SE Division)
Nicholas Restaurant (MLK Near Burnside)
Vooo-Doo-Donuts (on SE 3rd)

This is a good resource too:

Email me if you need any more tips or anything.. Portland is quite veg friendly

Thanks for your help guys. I love the lists. I am looking for vegan options, but I think I have enough to go off of now, unless someone thinks there is something I absolutely shouldn't missed. I am dissapointed to hear veganopolis is nothing special.

All the options I posted are vegan. I wouldn't bag on Veganopolis. I go there for lunch once in a while. They have a vegan breakfast buffet which is cool and some of their sandwiches are good too.

Hi Oregon people!

I was just contacted by Brian P. McCarthy.
He's the author of "The Lantern Vegan Family Cookbook".

He will be doing a vegan breakfast cooking class at Bob's Red Mill, Milwaukee Oregon, on September 21st from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
He's going to make banana bread, sourdough pancakes, sausage skillet, chai tea, tofu scramble and morning muffins.

He told me that he would love the whole world to show up.
So if you're in the area, do stop by!

There's a new restaurant in Streets of Tanasbourne that is supposedly the "best" for south indian food. I plan on going soon.

I really miss Oregon too. I live in England now. My parents live in Oregon near Silverton on a farm. That is where I grew up. The Oregon coast is one of the most beautiful in the world. Who knows? We may end up moving back there, although we are looking into other states for retirement.

So I went on my vegan food trip to Portland this weekend and I was very happy with my choices. I had veganoplis, kalga kafe, blossing lotus and vegetarian house. Kalga Kafe was my favorite their vegan pizza is to die for. I am now on a quest to find something that good in my state Washington. Thanks for all your help. I just wanted to let you know it was a successful trip.
