There is a vegetarian group around cleveland called Vegetarian Advocates, lead by Stephen Kaufman, who has written papers with people like Neal Barnard, and was featured in Vegan Spam. I have been on their mailing list but too shy to participate yet. However, they are doing a tabling at the Hessler Street Fair this saturday near University Circle. I might go at least say hi, and maybe help.
The mailing list address is vegetarianadvocates@yahoo.com. It gives info on other Ohio AR group activities.

Eva,
I was born in Cinti and lived there for four years. Are you a huge Skyline Chili fan, too? There are no Skyline Chili restaurants in my area of Ohio, so my mom has made homemade skyline chili since we moved away from Cinti, and she leaves the meat out of the sauce for me. The last time I was at a real Skyline Chili restaurant was at least two years ago, so I don't know what the current quality is like.

skylark... i think there are some skylines in columbus which is closer to you. they have a black beans & rice burrito (vegetarian) that is so good! the sauce is really runny like the skyline meat sauce is and although its vegetarian it has that skyline aroma to it. I love it! also, gold star has veggie chili now which i tried the other day, it is pretty good! lots of beans and actual hunks of vegetables.

skylark,
I always hated the stuff...oh so greasy! But, i do know a lot of people who have moved far away and load up on skyline every time they visit. I didnt know they had anything vegetarian or vegan on the menu....or are you just craving it? I miss the Waffle House much more...its such an exciting atmosphere...never a boring moment. Im sure you know what i mean :D

I don't crave Skyline Chili all that much since I can have it at home, or at least something close to it. I just kinda miss going into the old diner style restaurant close to the apartment where my family had lived. It's one of those childhood memories that's hard to shake. That and going to the Hartwell pool as often as my mom would take my sister and me. :D

So, where is the best place to eat in Cincinnati?
And what is there to do?
I will be there for 6 days with my 6 year old son next week...
Thanks!

The Newport Aquarium is awesome, its actually in Newport, KY...but its pretty much an extension of downtown cincy, just across a bridge. Kids love it. Its new, with a nice shopping center next to it. There's lots of great places to sit down and get a nice view of downtown & the river boats. The only thing I don't like about it is that there's a seafood resturant right next to the aquarium....I wonder what happens to the dead fish....ugh. Theres a great veggie resturant downtown...
Manna Vegetarian Deli
39 East 7th St.
Cincinnati, OH 45201
513-241-8343
As this deli's name suggests, Manna Vegetarian nourishes the spirit as well as the body, with an extensive menu of strict vegetarian and vegan entrees and sides. While some items do contain dairy, they're clearly labeled, and there's never a need to question the stock of your soup. Regulars rate the mock chicken salad a hands-down favorite. Try a pita that's brimming over with tofu, almonds, celery and scallions. Other favorites include the Veggie Patty, Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche, Vegetarian Barbecue and Black Bean Burrito. If soup's your thing, put lunch at Manna on your to-do list. The absolute freshest ingredients go into their Caribbean Vegetable, Seven Bean and Barley, and Vegetarian Chili. A sunny decor creates a warm and homey feeling perfect for sipping a Smoothie or indulging in a slice of fruit pie and hot tea.
