My wife and I went to Dragonfly for Valentine's Day. The food, as usual, was wonderful, but Kristin really needs to fire certain members of her waitstaff. We're boycotting (which, of course, doesn't leave many alternatives in Columbus, but hey, it's the principle of the matter).

I moved from Texas to Dayton Ohio last June. No offense to anyone who lives in Dayton but, Dayton sucks. I haven't met anyone who's a vegan or vegetarian. I don't think some of the people know what they are.

Your right about Dayton to a point. There are a few vegetarians & vegans out here, mostly Seventh-day Adventists but there are a few. Places for Vegans to eat, well I just had very nice lunch at Thai 9 resturant vegetable shushi platter . It was excellent. Also have an entire vegetarian section to their menu. Thai Smiles is another that has a vegan/vegetarian section on their menu. Many of the Indian resturants in the area have vegetarian/vegan cuisine as well.

There are a few places but they are few and far between so keep looking they are out there.

Being almost-vegan with a full-fleged omni husband makes eating out real fun. Recently, we went to Aladdian's. I didn't know what to do with myself--I had many dishes to choose from and they were all around $5, so that didn't help either. (If I can't decide, I'll go with what's cheapest.)

I don't have much trouble in Mexican restaurants. I've heard that Chinese is veg-friendly, too, but we don't do that often. Even in steak restaurants (where we often go with his parents), I can order a few veggies and be happy.

I live in Bexley (a Columbus suburb) and on Main, there are several restaurants, all of which are veg friendly. I think Bexley's Monk is, but I've never really been there. The Drexel Radio Cafe has several veg sandwhiches, as does WG Grinders. I can get pizza without cheese. Cup O Joe has a vegetarian chili and vegan cookies. Chipotle has a vegetable burrito. Hhhmmm... I think I'm missing some, but it's nice to have these options in walking distance even though I don't eat out much.

I hope this helps, some.

Laura

I used to live in Dayton. No good vegan restaurants that I know of. A couple places I like as far as food are Trader Joe's (Kettering), Dorothy Lane Market (lots of organic fruits and veggies) and Olympia (health food store right behind Town & Country shopping center. I used to work at Healthy Alternative in Beavercreek. They have some good vegetarian and vegan stuff. There is also a raw vegan support group in Dayton. They meet for potlucks once a month on a Sunday afternoon. There are some really nice people there. The leader of the support group is John Tiernan and his email is johntiernan@sbcglobal.net if you want to get in contact with him or get on the email list.

We love going to Trader Joes and Whole Food Market.

Jungle Jims has a humungus (spelling?) selection of vegan, vegetarian and just about any other type of food you can imagine! I love it!

I'm in the Cleveland area and vegetarian-friendly (esp. vegan-friendly) restaraunts are hard to come by. We don't even have a Whole Foods. I think the only one in the state is in Colombus (I'm envious of you guys). Gahhh...I can't wait to go away to college and be in a metropolitan area with a more progressive palate.

There's a great store in Westlake called Harvest for Life right off of Columbia...90. You should check it out. Good stuff..specially the food bar in the back.

i know that there's a whole foods and trader joe's in columbus, my mom and i have shopped there a few times, and we're in athens

by the way, if you are ever in athens, for any reason, such as touring the campus of OU or hiking in the hocking hills (just keep driving south from there, it's only twenty minutes from athens), there are tons of veggie friendly restaurants here. My favorite one is Casa Nueva: www.casanueva

We have a trader joe's too. Cleveland and the surrounding area is full of veg friendly places. Nueva Alcapulca has a whole section of vegetarian items on the menu. They have the best mexican. Fat free refried beans..mmmm. Luchita's is pretty good too. They have several locations.

There's Tea House Noodles downtown where you can get the best tofu peanut sauce with whole grain rice that you'll ever have. Aretifino is another downtown option as is House of Cues.

My favorite sub comes from Penn Station..the artichoke sub. Penn's are all over the place.

There Cafe Tandor in Westlake for Indian food. Johnny Mango's in Ohio City is pretty good.

Go to www.clevelandlive.com. Go to entertainment, click on dining, and select the vegetarian option. There are more than 50 that have veg options.

ETA : Yes, it's the Westside Market and is on the corners of W.25th Street and Lorain Ave. I like to stay outside and browse the veggies and fruit. It smells to dead on the inside for my liking.

There is going to be a whole foods opening at the corner of Warrensville and Cedar. If anyone in NE Ohio is looking for veg friendly food, I recommend the book Cleveland Ethnic Eats (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1598510207/sr=8-1/qid=1145896510/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-3927318-8000631?%5Fencoding=UTF8). It isn't geared towards veggies, but gives good descriptions of the food at dozens of places often mentioning veggie options. I find Cleveland (especially near the city) is a great place to be vegetarian. I have the opposite problem of most people- too many places to eat and not enough time and money!

If you're in the Cleveland area, you have to check out Web of Life in Westlake. It's off the Columbia Rd S. exit of I-90 on Detroit road. It's a heath food store with a vegan deli, smoothie bar, fresh organic juices, and a 100% vegan hot kitchen menu with everything from beans and rice to a Philly cheese steak!

 Web of Life is awesome! They had a tasting/sample weekend this past weekend and I was totally impressed. There was terryaki (I can't spell) tofu, buffalo tofu, cake, stuffed grape leaves, and a bunch of other stuff. It was more like a free buffet rather than a sample tasting thing. I was glad I popped in on the right weekend to get my pills.

It was good seeing you April. :)

I live in cincinnati. There isn't much " vegan" stuff here. So I usually purchase my stuff at the grocery. I love, love Yves Roast Beef without the Beef and I put it on with beefsteak rye ( it's vegan) And I love Yves Vegan hot dogs. When I do go out I usually eat at Chipolte and Skyline ( yes it's famous here) They have vegetarian rice and beans and I order it w/o sour cream. It's great!

I forgot to metion in addition to Web of Life that there's a Wild Oats on the east side- it's on Chagrin blvd right off the Chagrin exit of I-271. It's beautiful, big, and as good as or better than any Whole Foods I've been to.

Also be sure to check out the Mustard Seed markets. There's one in Solon and one in Fairlawn. One of them has a big vegetarian buffet luncheon every Sunday. They both have a dining section with lots of vegetarian options.

Please feel free to PM me if you ever want more vegetarian dining ideas in the Cleveland area or if you need an opinion on a new place before going there.

Anyone in the greater Cleveland/Akron area interested in having any meetups? Of course I'd love to introduce more people to the fabulous vegetarian store with the vegan deli where I work, but I'd also love to go other places together- like The Mustard Seed Cafe, Cafe Limbo, or any good ethnic place with veggie options. Maybe we could even have our own vegan potlucks! Feel free to PM me if you're interested!

I live in the Akron/Canton area - there's a vegetarian club in Canton if anyone is interested. Here's their site: http://www.vegetarianclubofcanton.org They have monthly get-togethers/potlucks, meetings, speakers and they recently adopted a cow from a farm sanctuary in NY. :sunny:
