I recently moved back to my hometown of mansfield, OH....partly between clevo and columbus on I-71. I lived in Cleveland for about 6 years - went to college there and lived awhile in Boulder Colorado (sigh)!
Have met a few vegetarians and vegans - so I hope to get something organized soon as far as potlucks, etc. Since coming home, my veggie
propaghanda has led to my parents going vegetarian - whoo-hoo!There is a Columbus based group called mercy for animals. They did a video expose on Buckeye egg that got shown on Cleveland local news. They have a website.

hey thalia did mercy for animals produce a commercial??? i caught the tail end of an animal rights commercial the other day, thinking it looked kinda like a peta ad, but was surprised to see a different organization. im pretty sure it said MFA at the end. if so that is cool that they are ohio based. the commercial was good... it wasnt as intense as a peta ad but was very very strong. they showed animals suffering and it wasnt like they even had to say anything. they showed the facts and that was it. how much convincing do people need *shrug*

Yes they did. But I don't think it was shown in Cleveland where I am, so I didn't see it.

Why the heck do we need specially-painted barns? Seriously... for an Ohio Bicentennial celebration, I can think of a lot more fun, inexpensive ways to spend money. Oh, but of course they didn´t ask me... they just take money out of my paycheck and paint barns with it.
Why didn´t the citizens of Ohio get to participate in some kind of informal ballot about what they think would be the most fun way to celebrate the Ohio Bicentennial? That would have been more fair. (That might have happened, but nobody told me.)
Anyway... I´m not whining, I´m not. And I´m really not going to whine about missing the Ohio VB bash... I´m not...

New Cleveland member.. I am a vegetarian from Cleveland, and I go to CSU which is downtown.. My name is John and I am 23.. let's see, I have nothing fun to write except that I found a new vegetarian (almost exclusively) place in Cleveland !!! I am so excited to share this with everybody. It is called Teahouse Noodles and it is located down the East 6th corridor off of Euclid.. it is nested in between some skyscrapers (BP Tower, the National City Bank Center, etc..)
THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!! You have the following menu choices: First pick rice or noodles. Then pick your sauce, 8 to choose from, plus a daily special. 7 of the 8 sauces are vegetarian and vegan, and 1 is Chicken. They have all sorts of soups, salads, etc, all of which is vegan..
This week I had a new special called Freakin' Rican' which was VEGETARIAN of the Day. It was noodles, 5 beans, tofu, snap pea pods, and 4-5 other Asian veggies. Very good stuff !!!!!!!!!!
Today I had their coconut ginger lime flavor sauce and did not like it.. I guess I don't enjoy "too much" flavor. Nonetheless, there are a lot of options each time I go there.
4 dollars a meal or 6 for a combo meal with soup or salad and a beverage.
This place blows any other vegetarian places in Cleveland away. I'm kinda sick of Tommy's, and it has too much meat on the menu to be "vegetarian".. they have "meat pie" on the menu.. sick!
And Soul Vegetarian closed, but I think there is one at Kilamanjaro, which I cannot locate.
bye!
-John
Hello MsRuthieB,
Nice to talk to some Cleveland veg heads.. What is the place in the Statler called? And is the Halle building across from the Keith building? I have classes next to the Keith building, and I sometimes walk to Starbucks at the ground level next to what I believe is the Halle building. I want to check this place out, I just can't recall if I am picturing the Halle building in the spot where I think it is.. kinda across the street from US Bank black building and it has a side scroller on the side??
Well, anyways, some other good vegetarian places in Cleveland for myself:
Wild Oats salad bar .. very good!
Rascal House - great pizza, including the veggie pizza that has some weird toppings like baby corn for example.
And of course, right in Ohio City (you gotta know this one) is a great greattttt place called Johnny Mango, which I can just die for their food sometimes! The food their is so good that I usually scarf it down..
Soul Vegetarian was a great place, and did you know the entire menu was 100% VEGAN !? I believe they have one still on Kilamanjaro, which is a neighborhood just outside of shaker heights on the outskirts of Cleveland.. but last time I went there I got lost trying to find it in a major snowstorm and had to retreat..
Where else do you eat? How do you get by in Cleveland, and what building do you work in? I kinda have a love for skyscrapers in Cleveland.. If you work in Key tower, BP tower, the National City Center, Bank One center, Tower at Eerieview, Easton building, 55 tower, Keith building, or One Cleveland Center, then I am quite jealous, because they are all such beautiful buildings in my opinion and I stare at them in marvel as I drive on the freeway each morning... Actually, the entire bank district is awesome, and I could never get bored looking at all the old and new buildings nestled together... that is definately the "heart" of downtown !
-John
I'm on skyscrapers.com trying to see what the halle and statler arms buildings look like.. I claim to know so much about downtown buildings but I confused the halle building with the hanna building... ha ha..

Hello Magyka,
It is good to meet another Cleveland veggie.
I love Johnny Mango's. Some co-workers and I go there 3-4 times a year, usually when the weather is nicer than it has been.
There's a place in the new Legacy Village that sounds similar to Tea House Noodles. It's called Stircrazy and is based on the same idea. You pick either noodles or rice (with several choices of each), your veggies and sauce and they stir fry it up right in front of you. I've only been there once, but I was very impressed (not that impressing me is overly difficult).
I agree on the Wild Oats; I go there about twice a week for supplies. Have you been to the Trader Joe's just down the road from it?

Also, the Mounted Police Unit received notice last week that they must adopt out 19 or their horses. Poor animals..I hope someone adopts them that can give them a good home. I shudder to think of what may happen to them if no one steps forward to adopt them.
I urge you to write, call or email expressing your outrage and concern:
Cleveland City Hall
Mayor's Office
601 Lakeside Avenue, Room 202
Cleveland, Ohio 44114

I called to adopt or try to adopt some of the horses, can never have to many. Well, the program is adopt a horse for 10 dollars a day. So you dont have to worry, your city Cleveland will continue to have a mounted patrol.
Is anyone from the Akron area? Does anyone know where Akron is?
Another question...
Are there any Veg groups that meet from the Akron area?
Hello, I ate at the restaurant in the Statler building, and it is called "Juji's". Comments:
-I was not excited that they serve duck on the menu
HOWEVER
-They had some nice vegan/vegetarian dishes, 1 of which is called the "vegetarian club"
-I spoke to one of the chef's and he is a vegetarian himself, as he suggested me some "vegetarian" meals on the menu.
-Afterwards I toured the Statler Arms building. What a beautiful building !!! I would love to live there, as it is such a beautiful "secluded" place to live !!!
Last week I tried the food court inside of the BP Tower, it is something like "Fast Food On 8" or some stupid title like that. The building itself is excellent, but the food court is a joke. There were like 8 generic food stands in one big room. Of course, they all were grease infested places (e.g. chicken stand, burger stand, etc...) all of which made me gag at the site of them. How could I eat the "veggie burger" after looking at the rest of the menu !!! They had a salad bar, but it doesn't make up for the sick corporate yet generic food court.
I ended up eating at the Arcade food court next door. Yumm, much better.
Got a hot vegetarian food tip for Clevelanders!
Well, I go to CSU and they used to have the Panini's bar in the University Center building's basement. This is the building right in front of Rhodes Tower (the big tall building with CSU on it).. this building is an atrium located on Euclid.
Well, anyways, Panini's closed and the location was changed to Cafe 101 (still almost identical to Panini's). The mediterranean pasta salad is fine fine fine!!! Basically, you get rotini pasta noodles (3 colors), balsamic vinegar dressing in it, tomatoes, olives, red peppers, feta cheese. It is beyond delicious and puts other pasta salads to shame. I don't think they make it, as they might be purchasing it from Galluci's or another Italian food market in Cleveland. I take the feta cheese out, since it is usually a few big pieces that can be removed. If you are in the area, stop by, and enjoy it! No smoking inside which is a plus! And 3.25 is a good price compared to Sbarro's stale tasting 5.00 a bowl in their downtown location...

I live in WV, like 5 minutes from Ohio. Heh, WV sucks so much.
I bought some Peterson's Soyful Pleasures soynuts from Drug Mart and they are really good. They make them in 8 flavors.

I bought my step-dad a couple of pounds of Peterson's nuts for Christmas (he really loves his nuts :D ) Anyway, he enjoyed them so much he wants to go to the store when he next comes up to visit.

The republican candidate for governor of WV is a cousin of a friend of mine. I am a prog. green from Ohio, but I would be doing myself and my friend a disservice if I didn't say...vote for him! Haha..do whatever you want...but, take a look at him on the ballot at least.

I'm working on the west side for the next few months and I would like to know if there are any good places to buy food (store wise) or get to-go meals.. I am so used to the east side, downtown, and the suburbs, but I have yet to explore Lakewood, Rocky River, etc... Tell me, where do I begin?

Columbus, here. I think we have all of 2 vegetarian restaurants here... Whole World, which is about 10 min. from my house, is more of a diner-type place, and there's Dragonfly, down on King Ave. Nice place, but I spent $150 there for my wife and I on Valentine's day. Ouch!

Dayton here. Not much in the way of restaurants as far as I know, but I have yet to explore. Got the standard Trader Joe's though, so I'll manage.

FR and I ate at Web of Life today in Cleveland, Ohio (I guess Westlake neighborhood or suburb or whatever it is considered). It was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We both loved the food and the people, and even picked up some organic zucchini and pears for home. The prices are reasonable. The food is all vegan. Vegans own the place! Yay!
The zucchini nut muffins are the best!

hey...I live in Cambridge, OH...aka Hickville..lol I've been vegan for 2 years and veggie for 9, but I've never met an other veggie from around here. :( Where are you from?
Hey folks! I'm moving to the Cleveland area in May. Does anyone know of any good Asian grocery stores? Or any other good ethnic markets? I did my undergrad work at a college in the Cleveland area, and I'm returning to finish my masters at another school. I wasn't a vegetarian when I was there before, so I'm really looking forward to trying all of the cool restaurants I've been reading about.
