But you're still coming, right? :)

Yup..unless it's a blizzard. I have a little S-10 that handles the winter pretty well but I'm scared ****less to drive in real bad weather. Guess anyone is though. I put my other car in the garage for the winter. It sits too low to the ground and slids easily..I found out last weekend when I wiped out on one of the two lane highways here and did 3 total 360's all the way into the grassy median in the middle. Almost went right to the other side into oncoming traffic. I've never been so close to dying in a car accident in all my life. I had my guardian with me because me and my stepdaughter walked away with not even a scratch on us or the car.

Hi folks. I've been visiting veggieboards off and on for awhile now, but this is my first post. I saw that you guys are planning a trip to the VegiTerranean on December 29th, and wanted to give you a heads up that the restaurant is not yet open for lunch on Saturdays - just during the week. They hope to start after the first of the year. But they are open for dinner on Saturdays, starting at 5:00. It's not a bad idea to make a reservation (330-374-5550). I was there a couple weeks ago or so, and they were packed!

Yep, those are ideally the hours they wish to be open! But for now, the coffee shop and bakery are not open, no lunch on Saturday, and they are closed on Sundays as well. Hope that changes soon! Here's some info from the Akron newspaper last week:

Change of Lunch Plans

VegiTerranean, rocker Chrissie Hynde's new restaurant in Akron's Northside Lofts, 21 Furnace St., is not yet open for Saturday lunch, and its bakery and coffee shop probably won't open until the new year.

That's the latest word from executive chef Scot Jones.

Jones said the restaurant has been so busy on Friday nights that getting the kitchen prepped again to open for lunch on Saturdays has proved impossible — for the moment. It's something he hopes to address after New Year's Day.

At the same time, he has been using the bakery/coffee shop area to accommodate evening dinner seating. Jones said plans to open the coffee shop at 7 a.m. daily should go forward after Jan. 1.

For now, lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner is served beginning at 5 p.m. daily. Phone 330-374-5550 for reservations.

That's very helpful. Thanks again. It wouldn't have been fun to show up and find out the restaurant wasn't open for a few more hours. :)

You're very welcome. And if you arrive earlier in the day, you could visit Mocha Maiden (photo gallery and coffee house) which is very near the VegiT, check out the Peanut Shop downtown (where you can still get 1/8 pound of candy in a white paper bag!), go a mile or so up the road to Highland Square (coffee shop, ice cream shop, Aladdin's eatery, vintage clothing, record shop). And about 6 or 7 miles past that is the Mustard Seed Market & Cafe.

Hey, maybe you'll all just have to plan a second trip! :)

I guess I should join this Ohio thread because there's a good chance I'll remain in Columbus for another 2.5 years. I need to find a good Mexican restaurant! Any advice?

I've never been there, but Skylark recommended Mad Mex (http://www.madmex.com/) to me. They label all their vegetarian dishes on the menu and will replace cheese and sour cream with soy versions on request. It sounds great!

Been there a couple times. It's actually just a 2-block walk from where I park. Unfortunately, it's not exactly authentic, and while the food is pretty good, it's not quite what I'm looking for. Of course, I have only tried a couple things on the menu, so I'm sure I'll eat there again.

A big plus is that after a certain time - I think it's 9 or 10pm - all their food is half-price, so you should indeed check it out if you're out having drinks or just like to eat late.

I'm looking to replace Little Mexico (http://www.littlemexicocafe.com), my favorite restaurant when I lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their lunch menu was great... it had burritos, enchiladas, tortillas, tostadas, flautas, etc., etc., and every item could be made with chicken, beef, seafood, or vegetables, rather than there just being a few designated vegetarian dishes available. I seek a little family-owned place like that, with a mariachi band and servers who have trouble understanding me when I place my order :) I miss Michigan :(

Hey! I live in C-bus too, and I love Mad Mex as well. You can find me there most Friday nights. Their quesadillas are phenom.

VegEnigma, have you tried Cazuela's? I don't know how veg-friendly it is, but it's a couple blocks north of Mad Mex.

Urf. Ohio. I live there. So boring. Anywho. I don't know any mexican restaraunts near columbus, most I know of are up in Delaware/sunbury where I live. Whenever I'm down in Columbus I always just chill at North Market. They have some killer food there. And barely anyone speaks english. lol.

Wow, I didn't realize so many people here are from the Columbus area. A get-together may be in order.

When I went to the North Market I had some awful Indian food. Awful as in it seemed like they took good Indian food and watered it down a lot. Maybe I should try something else next time :p

I had a great meal at Banana Leaf last week (I don't live in CMH, but visit there on occasion). It's in a little strip mall north of Bethel and just west of I-315. Highly recommended!

Looks good! Pretty cheap, too. New India (http://www.newindiarestaurant.com) is on Bethel as well, and has the best Indian food I've tried in Columbus so far. Plus, it even has coupons on its web site :deal:

I'm all in for the get together. That would be fun. And VegEnigma, you have to go to the good places at North MArket, some of the indian people there don't know how to cook. Theres one place in there thats really good, I forget the name though. I'll post back when I remember it.

To those in the Cleveland/Akron area, the gathering at Vegeterranean has been moved to this Saturday. We're still deciding on a time, but probably a late lunch. I'll post details as we decide them.

SotallyTober couldn't make it, but Iria and I had a good time at VegiTerranean on Saturday! The boyfriend came with me. Our food was amazing, and I think it was the best fake meat I've ever had. I was not about to order pasta, since I can get that at any restaurant.

Iria has a good photo of the two of us. Do you want to post it, dear?
