Just to remind the Ohioans, Iria and I are planning a mini-gathering at VegeTerranean in Akron on December 29. I'm guessing we'll either do a late lunch or dinner. It'd be nice to have some time left in the evening after eating that we could do something else if we wanted. (Jillian's is awesome!)

Hey everyone! I'm fairly new to the boards here...I'm located east of the Cincy area :)
We Cincy folk should all get together for lunch sometime :)

geckogirly, send a PM to Libellula. I don't know how much she reads this thread, but she's in your neck of the woods.

Anyone coming to VegeTerranean in December object to bringing SOs?

Don't forget about me. I've been dying to try that place. :)
Don't let me chicken out, you guys. I'm already getting nervous, and my parents are not happy with this idea (going to Akron by myself to meet strangers).
I'd bring someone, but I don't know who to bring! I don't really want family along when I meet you guys.

Anyone in Columbus? One of the country's top ten veg restaurants is like 4 blocks away from me and I haven't tried it yet! It's called Dragonfly Neo-V Cuisine - anyone tried it?

Aww, don't worry. I was really nervous the first time I met anyone from here too. You hear all these creepy stories about people on the net. The VB people are really down to earth people. You have absolutely nothing to worry about. I've hung out with Skylark, Thalia, and April a few times. I've met about 10 others or so at least once and hung out with them for the day, including Michael (at Cedar Point). I'm in Cleveland. I know you don't know me but if you want you can ride with me in the Stang. We can even do lunch or whatever before we go so we can meet. I'll even give you my business card to give to your parents. I work for a major insurance company. I'm not sure what part of Ohio you're in though.

Ooooooh! I had not heard of this restaurant. I'll have to try it when I'm in Columbus sometime. I visit every few months. (I'm coming this Saturday, but I have other plans and probably won't make it to any restaurants.)

 Your first time is the scariest, definitely. Thankfully, I first met an online friend IRL when I was 15. I had other friends with me, and it was at this big conference, so it was all cool.
Considering how many other VBers I've met, and how none of them are dead yet, I think I'm a safe person to hang out with. If your parents (Iria) would be comforted by getting my phone number and being able to call me, I'll definitely do that. I'll talk to them for as long as is necessary to ease their concerns.
You guys are cool. :)
I'll have to discuss what I'm doing in more detail with my parents and see what they think. I really want to go, I just don't want to end up hopelessly lost in Akron or something. I just don't want to get anyone in my family upset either, so I have to present it right. They can't tell me not to go, but the idea of meeting people from the Internet will probably freak them out and I don't want them to worry.

Rachael, it's probably better to be hopelessly lost in Akron when you're with someone else. If you would like to meet me some place you know how to get to, you can ride with me the rest of the way. I know my way decently well around Akron, and with a map and directions, we should do just fine.
I don't think I'm up for driving all the way to your house, but if there's a landmark you know that's just outside Akron, we could meet there.

I didn't hear from many people on this: Does anyone object to bringing SOs to the VegeTerranean gathering?
Iria, I just found out swing dancing at the Bohemian WILL be on the same day as the gathering. We should do a late lunch/early dinner and then plan on going dancing. It costs $10 and is about 40 minutes from downtown Akron. So easy to get there, too, since you just hop on Rt. 77 North and go up to Pershing Road. It's on Pershing Road.
 I can't get out of it!
If we do that, about what time do you think we'll be done?
Ohio people: who all is planning on going? Right now it looks like me, Skylark, and SotallyTober. Anyone else?
I've been wanting to go to VegeTerranean! I can't believe it's ALL VEGAN! My friend went and said it was so busy that they had to sit at the bar!

We could leave whenever we wanted. If we stayed till midnight, we would get back to the church in Akron at 12:45, and then drive to our respective homes. It's usually a late night, but it's so much fun. If you wanted to drive separate so you could leave whenever you wanted, that would be up to you.
And no, you can't get out of it. Not when it's actually going to be more convenient than I thought.

We should set a firm time for the meal. What do you think: 2? 3?
What time is swing dancing? You mentioned going home at 12:45, so it seems to me like we'd have to get lunch and dinner in Akron if that's the case.

If we arrive at 3, I imagine we'll have our food around 3:30. That will give us several hours to talk and hang before meeting my swing dancing friends at 7.
We could even push it back to 4. There aren't going to be that many of us, right?
If I eat a big meal at 4:30, I will not be hungry again by 7. We could bring granola bars or something to snack on if we get hungry during swing dancing. My friends often go out to eat afterwards at Steak'N'Shake... which isn't veg-friendly at all, but I enjoy hanging out with them. It's the last time I'll see them before I go to Bolivia. You know, I think I'll be too tired to want to go to dinner. I will probably reach my socializing saturation point around midnight.
I'd say 3 or 4 would be better for that reason. Who is going? SotallyTober hasn't even checked in to this thread lately.
My friends at home always want to go to Steak'N'Shake too. At least I'm not completely adverse to grilled cheese, even though it's not my first choice.

I got their chicken and apple salad the last time I was there, and they subbed in a couple of veggies from a different salad when I asked if they could. They were surprised at the choice because they don't get it much, but they were obliging.
I'll send Sotally Tober a PM to remind her to check this thread. I know she's not on as much as she once was... like four years ago. :p
Hmm, I don't even remember that salad. I must have saw the word 'chicken' and passed right over it. That's an idea for next time.

I can't get on from work and I've been so busy at home I haven't had time. Doesn't mean I don't care though. :)

Yeah, I was all up in here all the time until they banned the site at work. It was a blessing in disguise though cause it broke my net addiction.
