Welcome sefork...welcome to the NC thread...you're right it hasn't been active in a bit. Guess people join and put in their 2 cents about being in NC, then are off trying to find vegan eats:drool:
Hi some dogs were stolen in NC. Their person is a very loving and conscientious person. I am going to re-post the post in which I got this info. Please, if anyone knows of anyone suddenly getting any of the dogs mentioned in this post, please contact the people in the post. Please pass this post to anyone who might see new dogs-- there is a pregnant female chihuahua involved. Thanks.

I need everyone's help and prayers today. Yesterday on the way to a show in Greensboro, NC my handler stopped at a rest stop and took a Golden puppy out for a walk in the dog area behind the building. When he came back a window had been broken and the other 7 dogs he had with him were taken. 3 were mine and I am devastated for myself, 1 other client and my handler as 3 were also his. There were 3 Maltese. My 1 year old female Nikki, my 7 month old male (that I co own with my handler ) Geno and 8 month old male Peanut. Both boys were wrapped. Also in the van was my 1 year old Pom Magic. He is 3 1/2 to 4# is an orange sable with a lot of black, very dark. The other 3 were Chihuahuas. All 3 are smooth coats 2 are fawn. One of the fawns is the dam of a number of champions and is subject to seizures if she becomes stressed. She is bred and will require a c section. Her name is Ellie and she is very quiet and sweet. 1 has unusual coloring. She is a silver color with black sabling. She has a black saddle and a silver blaze. She is microchipped her # is Avid 095812321. Please post and cross post this anywhere and everywhere you can think of and please pray for their safe return.
Thank You, Darlene
You can contact me at this email address or on my cell phone 678-471-6912 and you can contact my handler Rob Storey at RStorey@BMNet.com or 865-621-4424 .

Hey, if you're not too far from Greensboro, they have a wonderful vegan-friendly restaurant. I've only been there once, but I loved it: Boba House!
Are there any co-ops in the Charlotte or Hickory area?
Thanks

I'm in Greenville, SC but my hubby and I want to move to Asheville. There's only like 1 or two other veggies that we've found around here.... we do have some ok places with veg options... but Asheville is ... like the Mecca of Veggies!!!!!!!!!

I agree...Asheville rocks! I'm vegan and there are quite a few restaurants that I can eat at there. I have parents near Greenville, SC and there are fewer places I can find...at least Greenville has an Earthfare though...unfortunately they don't carry as much vegan-friendly fare as the one in Asheville though:no: You might also want to check out the vegetarian/vegan group in Asheville. I've yet to get to any of their meetings, but I hope to one day!
Hubby and I are in love with Asheville. We don't live there, but have visited several times. We are seriously considering moving to the area, but I hear there aren't many job prospects, unless you're in the health care (he is) or hospitality industries.
But the landscape is incredible, and it is definitely veg friendly. I miss Asheville!

I recently justed moved from asheville to phoenix. As much as i miss asheville, phoenix is still pretty veg friendly. At least 35 nearby veg restraunts. But overall the earthy feel at asheville is like none other. i love asheville:smitten:

I live in Fayetteville, a city near Fort Bragg. There are many restaurants here, but sadly none of them are strictly vegetarian. The best one, in my opinion, for vegetarians to visit is a place called Bombay Bistro. They serve the most delicious Indian food you'll ever taste in your life!! Plus, the head cook is a vegetarian, the staff is very helpful and friendly, and the environment is clean and comfortable.

Hey everyone, I'm in Charlotte. I haven't had a chance to read through since there are 12 pages here, but if anyone is from Charlotte (especially if you're up to date on all the activist goings ons) please PM me! I need more veg friends, or just more friends period lol

You mean food co-ops? If so, check out www.nourishingthecarolinas.com it's run by a few moms that I know that are super nice. Elizabeth sometimes seems like a know-it-all but she's just really informative and nice IRL.
Oh, and if you're talking more about body products, the cheapest place I've found them is at www.luckyvitamin.com - they are just cents above wholesale!!!:vebo:

If you go there they mention a lot of veg-friendly charlotte restaurants. But I find that any restaurant can be accommodating if you call them up first and let them know when you'll be coming in :)

Other than the ones mentioned in the link, some of my favorites are:
Monsoon- Thai food on South Blvd, almost anything can be made vegetarian or vegan, just ask.
Situl- Indian food behind Harris Teeter on Park Road.
The Penguin- Diner with the best black bean hummus on earth, plus veggie burgers, dogs, falafel, etc. Great place to bring picky omnis because they have good meaty food too, according to my family.
Ru-Sans- excellent, inexpensive veggie sushi, on Park Road.
As a side note, I haven't eaten at the Pewter Rose since Geoff took it over, but he was the head chef at The Peaceful Dragon, before it closed. He's an AMAZING chef, I would kill to work with him again. I don't know what they're serving now but I'm sure it's the best food you could ever put in your mouth.
I grew up in South Charlotte, and my parents still live there so I come back to visit several times a year. I miss some of the food, I'm jealous!

I had posted about this before, but didn't give details. I want to update with details.
After much searching of the internet looking for a site that catered to animal rights activism in North and South Carolina I came up empty handed. There were sites for tiny towns in Ohio, but nothing in the Carolinas other than sites specifically for groups on college campuses. Because of that, I decided to make a forum to cater to those of us who live in these two states. I would love if you all who are into animal rights activism, or even just veg*n (there are forums there for that) to join us over there and help us start connecting with others. The site is http://aracarolina.conforums.com
For now the site is just on a remotely hosted free webforum. I will upgrade to a paid host for a site/forum whenever I 1)have more cash and 2)see a need for it. For now, the free one is just fine :). Please don't be put off by the site being *new* and therefore somewhat empty. The people who have joined up so far are super nice and I would love to see more membership and more local connecting there. So if you're interested check it out, and if you like it...pass it on to friends who are in the Carolinas and fit the criteria as well.
Oh and we also have a myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/aracarolina
:D
