This doesn't bode well for NY's bid to be the home of the 2005 VB gathering.
:p
any get together would be easier for me during a school vacation
there may be others who have the same problem

I'm from Rochester and have no interest in living in NYC. Does that make me boring?

I have no interest in going to Rochester so I guess we're even.

I didn't mean any offense by my post. I meant only to highlight my own insecurities and fears of the great unknown. I grew up in Rochester and returned here after going to college in Boston, and have spent much time in the past couple of years coming to terms with my small-town aspirations. I envy anyone who lives in "the city" and flourishes. I just couldn't do it. So...
...does that make me boring?

I didn't take offense. It was more of an evening out of the "to each your own" statement. :)
I just wouldn't want to deal with all the snow.
Heh. Well only Jes and I showed up, but if you're planning on coming out one weekend, let us know, and I'm sure we could pop in for lunch again!
OH- NOW I get it!!! I thought that shot of the "other people who showed up" was supposed to be that table in the background, behind the empty table... and I was wondering, "Why didn't they photograph the table from closer in? Maybe Soilman and everybody else are really shy?..."

I can't see myself not living in a city.
I've been in NYC all my life, but I've visited a lot of cities and I feel like it's time for a big-time change. Either in August or September I plan on upping and moving to California. LA or SF, I have not yet decided :-D

Hey folks! I am currently working at the raw vegan restaurant called Bonobo's on 23rd and Madison - if anyone wants to drop by and say hi to me, by all means please do!
Okay, NYers. Sisters and I are going to be in the area for a couple of days this week. (Newark and Manhattan). We're doing Candle Cafe on Thanksgiving Day...any other suggestions for yummy places to eat?

Come to Bonobo's! I'll be working all week there.
What happened to the Dec. 5th NYC meeting thread in the Patch?... I was just looking there to see if it was still "on" and find out if a restaurant had been selected... but the thread isn't there any more.

:help: hi there!im was born and raised in liverpool,uk and...im STILL here!for as long as i can remember it has been my hearts desire to visit nyc but this intense desire,at present, continues to go unfullfilled due to financial restrictions(winter flights are about a third of the price of other flights, and i located what appears to be a seriousley cool backpackers hostel named jazz on the park next to central park that is only around 30 dollars a night but this is currently unaffordable).so,what im asking of my nyc based veggie sisters and brothers is to please consider adopting me on this thread so that, until i can make it over there,my time spent STUCK here will be much more bearable.could you all kind of create an on-going cyberspace version of nyc for me,right here on this thread.for example, describe to me in detail how it feels to wander through central park(sights, sounds, smells, different seasons, memories etc),what is it like at your favourite veggie grocery stores and resteraunts,do any of you have a favourite sanctuary/place to recharge your batteries within nyc,can any of you describe to me from personal experiance some of its museums/art galleries, are there any really cool charity shops/alternative/unconventional shops/flea markets that sell neat stuff like way out clothing and other way out things?my list is endless.so...there you have it...one vegan sister who has longed for the longest time to visit nyc.are any/all of you willing to adopt me and take me under your wing as this would be extremely consoling till my dream comes true?with sincere love from vegan heart.xxx.

hi there megan!how are you?!heartfelt thanks for the thoughtfulness you
have shown in emailing me your exquisite nyc pics.my favourite one is of vb
monkey with a statue of libery at sunset background, thats one profoundly
sweet pic and it went staraight to my heart.thanks again.im not sure if my
yearning to spend time in nyc is an obsession as its not something im pre
occupied with and is only one element of my entire life.admitedly though
nyc does pull on my heart strings and i have wanted to visit for as long as
i can remember.i guess you could compare it to a little kids wish to go to
the north pole to meet santa and rudolph or an astronauts wish to go to the
moon.sure,i appreciate thats impossible for you to relate to as its your
home town and you and i are individuals so inevitably our perceptions are
very different.most of all i would love to see the statue of liberty with
my naked eye.after that i would love to visit its many vegan resteraunts
and food stores, its museums and art galleries etc and then enjoy a stroll
through central park.erm, not sure why you have a negative view of
tourists, the earth is home to each and every one of us and most of all are
based in one place, but that shouldnt mean that its a negative thing for us
to visit and enjoy the rest of our home planet,i feel happy and proud to
see tourists getting excited about and enjoying my home town of
liverpool,uk,just my humble opinion, but there it is.so...hope your vb nyc
meet up is enjoyable for all involved, wish i could be there to share it
with you.thanks again.take care veggie sister.with sincere love from vegan
heart.
how are all you other new yorkers on this thread doin?
The reason we get annoyed by tourists is that they are disruptive. As I'm sure you know, NY is a busy bustling city with people who have to get places and do things and don't feel too much like stopping so someone can pose for a camera or look up at buildings and go "Oooo." We aren't unfriendly to tourists.. we'll help with directions or reading a subway map -- if you can get someone to stop.
