Where are you from? Where do you go when you visit?

I am from Toronto, Canada. I normally stay in the Hudson/Albany area. However, sometimes I go to Manhattan or Yonkers. If I go to New York in December, I may stay in the city.

I work in NYC. I was recently at Zenith in mid town -- the food was really good. Can anyone recommend any other good veg places in mid town? I've been to Zen Palate on 9th.

Go to www.vegdining.com and it gives you a full directory!

I went to Zenith and thought it was ok. I didn't think it was as good as Zen Palate or some of the places I go to in Queens and in Chinatown. Also check out www.happycow.net.

Let it SNOW! Let it SNOW! Let it SNOW!

What kind of diabolical meatball is making you go to work, Rabid?!?!? I feel so bad for you!

My damn boss. It was ridiculous. ONE appointment showed up, and one other person came in cause her puppy had an earache. Everyone else cancelled. She wasn't even coming in today, she was having a relief vet come in. It wasn't so bad tho since it was quiet, and I like the relief vet better than my boss. lol. I worked with her all last summer at my other job and she rocks. But still, ugh, it was stupid and dumb and craptacular.

Hello from Buffalo, NY!!!

All right! My wife and I are leaving for New York tomorrow. We get in late Friday night, but we're trekking in to Manhattan from Long Island over the weekend (and as often as possible throughout my visit), and thinking about going to Farm Sanctuary during our stay, assuming they're open to visitors, and we can get there and back in one day... seems kinda far.

Any locals want to meet up while we're there? We're looking at having lots of fun in the city, checking out as many vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants as possible (first time in NYC since going vegan), shopping, meeting random people, etc.

If I weren't so strapped from holiday shopping, I would train up for the day and hang out! Anywho, enjoy the city!

I'm on LI :) :)

In or near New Hyde Park area, I think. I don't know LI all that well. Wear are you from? I'll ask my in-laws.

Today I was in the city again and went to Kate's Joint (disappointing, because I was expecting downhome cooking and got brunch until 4pm, but it was a good deal, and vegan). Also went to Moo Shoes' new store today at 152 Allen, and it was nice. Between the two of us, my wife and I bought three new pairs of vegan shoes. Did a little Christmas shopping, then ended the day at Teany, which was as good as all the reviews say.

Tomorrow it's off to Greenwich/SoHo/Tribeca/Union Square for the day. Lunch at Veg City Diner and dinner at Red Bamboo. These vegan options definitely beat LA! Being vegan has made me more interested in NY than ever, LOL. Before, it was a cool city, but now it rules!

Here's a more complete rundown on my dining experiences:

Restaurants my wife and I went to in Manhattan include VP2, which owns Red Bamboo (there was a 20 minute wait, and VP2 was next door with no wait, so we went there). The soul "chicken" was a phenomenal appetizer at VP2. RB is mainly a nicer looking restaurant it seemed.

We also went to Kate's Joint (not bad, but didn't rock my world -- the "Turkey" Club sandwich was pretty good, though), Teany (awesome -- I'd hang out there a lot if I lived in the Village), Josie's (great, especially the seasoning they use on their edamame appetizer, but expensive, and only a relatively small portion of the menu is veg*n... but it was worth it), Ozu (couldn't see myself going a lot, but it was good, and had a nice, warm atmosphere for such a small place), Veg City Diner (I liked the sweet potato fries and brisket sandwich), Zen Palate (which I loved -- Sesame Medallions and Shredded Heaven both, and their pan-fried dumplings are the best I've ever had), Angelica Kitchen (I'm with those reviewers that say it's over-rated with all the other newer options available, but it was still quite good -- I enjoyed my tempeh dinner), and finally Cafe Viva, a little organic Italian with veg*n options, including a delicious cheeseless Sicilian Marinara pizza that I'd have twice a week if I lived in the Upper West Side.

Didn't have time to work in Zenith, and I wanted to try Tiengarden, near MooShoes' new location, but they were closed the day we went by.

A new vegan restaurant is opening in Brooklyn on 3/31. Their site is www.foodswings.net. The menu looks so good, I can't wait to try it.
