New vegan cafe in Albany!!
www.foodforthoughtalbany.com

(Yea yea, I'm the only sucker in Albany, I know...)

Holy crap! Thank you so much. I'm definetly going there next time I'm in Albany. I've never been to an all vegan place. It looks amazing only one problem.....there are soo many things to choice from! The vegan calzones, philly cheesesteak, and milkshakes sound so good. I also read that they have vegan twinkies (not a fan of twinkies but thats still pretty damn cool) and brownies. Let me know if you go and what you think :)

We'll probably check it out once my life gets a little less crazy! (Semester ending in a week. AHH!)

Of course if anyone is ever in or around the capital region, I cook a pretty mean vegan dinner/dessert, and always enjoy company :D

ZenBurger (http://www.zenburger.com/) - 465 Lexington Ave, NY, NY, between 45th and 46th. New and pretty good. Prices good, food good. They even have a 'sausage' mcbiscuit.

Oh I got sick from Zen Burger. I ate there on Friday. I had a 'chicken' wrap and a green salad. It didn't agree with me. :(

Hey, new here. I’m living in North Buffalo, NY right now but I’m originally from Brooklyn. My drivers test is next Saturday and I’m wondering if anybody here has taken their test in Buffalo or any of the areas around it. Tonawanda, East Aurora, North Tonawanda, Orchard Park, etc.? Anyone? I’m sill not too familiar with the area so I’m also wondering if every road test is on the same route. Thanks.

I'm close to Albany, too.

What kind of food do you prefer? There used to be a good vegetarian restaurant near Lark St & Washington Ave (Shades Of Green) but they closed; they were going to open up someplace else but so far I haven't heard anything.

There are quite a few passable Chinese, Indian, and Mexican restaurants in the area, but they're not exclusively or primarily vegetarian.

Happy Birthday!!!

Edited to add: I just looked at Ahimsa's link. Bomber's Burrito Bar is good- I recently asked them to make an item without sour cream or cheese, and they knew what to do- the word "vegan" appeared right on my receipt. And I'm eager to try Little Anthony's vegan pizza soon.

I remember shades of green. Last I heard they needed a break. Hope they come back sometime.
I was looking for a real veg*n place, but if there is none anymore then I guess I'll do veg*n friendly.
Little Anthony's pizza sounds good, might check that out. I like the idea of a real vegan pizza.

I have a temporary job at the State U of NY at Stony Brook for a couple months. Drop me an email if you want to meet me for lunch at the Student Union or whatever. And I need help finding the vegan, non-fungal, and non stomach-ulcer-exacerbating choices at the Student Union, Asian Center, or the Student Activities Center !!!

A new vegan restaurant just opened on Madison Ave near Lark Street. It's called Food for Thought. That's all we've got though. A Taste of Greece on Lark St near Washington has some great vegetarian options and are knowledgeable enough about the menu to make sure they're vegan if you ask.

I've eaten at Little Anthony's. I got really sick.

Hey, I'm from Rochester, NY. I don't think there are too many vegetarians here; I've met two that I am aware of and all the vegetarian restaurants have closed in the last few years (we have zero of them now)... Kinda sucks.

Thanks for the info about the Veggie Pride Parade, on Sunday, 2008 May 18, Rahkoon. I will do my ever-loving best to bring my ass there.

Note that there is no public transportation whatsoever, on Sunday, in Suffolk County, so I could use help to get from my home to the train station. Taxi service to and from the station would cost me $20.

For once, a good French idea is copied. Hope to meet you there ;)

Please note that despite the references on the site of the New York Veggie Pride Parade to the Paris Veggie Pride, the former is not a copy of the latter. It is not affiliated and has a very different orientation. The fact that it refers to the Paris event and has the words “Veggie Pride” in its name is a regrettable confusion.

The Veggie Pride is an event that has been held annually in Paris since 2001. This year, for the first time, there will also be a Veggie Pride in Rome, based on the same ideas. But the New York event is completely different.

The idea of the Veggie Pride is that vegetarianism is first and foremost the refusal to eat animals, for the animals' sake. The Veggie Pride is centered on that refusal. People come to it to express that they believe it is right to refuse to eat animals.

Please visit the sites of the Paris (http://www.veggiepride.org/) and Rome (http://www.veggiepride.it/) Veggie Pride demonstrations, and you will understand their aims. The Paris site has an English language section:

http://www.veggiepride.org/en/

I am an organizer of the Paris and Rome Veggie Pride demonstrations. I hope that next May's New York event will be a success, but it is not a Veggie Pride and I regret the confusion that has been created. I also hope that some day there will be a real Veggie Pride in New York and many other places in the world.

David
