That's awesome. I know a few people who take dance at ailey. You can take classes there even if not a bfa major. And it is great to have Juilliard as your reach school. Even if you don't get in, you will always remember you tried there.
Some unsolicited advice though- if you don't get into the bfa program but get into fordham, yu can still come and take ailey dance classes. You will have an academic education as well, and a little more to fall back on if you don't end up dancing professionally. Even if you do, it might not happen right away and you will need a job, or it might not last forever. Please don't take this as belittling that you love to dance though. Just keep in mind having something to fall back on just in case. That is important for anyone who performs. My bf is an actor, has his degree in theatre (from a university, not a drama school) and has nothing much to fall back on. I love him very much, and we are hoping for a future together, but i wish he was more practical about that.
Did you apply early action to fordham? I did, and found out over new years. I don't know when you find out for regular applying though. I gues you have probably come to visit the campus. It ould be so cool to have someone from vb come to fordham. Just don't depend on the cafeteria for actual meals. But we have kitchens on the dorm. Did you see the dorm? we have apartments. I hope you get in and come.

I'm a NYer. Formerly downstate, now upstate.
Sarah Lawrence is a good application choice for visual/performing arts. It's in Bronxville 30 minutes north of Manhattan (easy train ride). it's where I went :P
Regina,
Thanks for the advice. I've taken some of the open classes at Ailey before and last summer I took a workshop with one of the ballet teachers there who reccomended the program. Do you know much about Fordham's Irish Studies minor? I've heard good things about it and that's right up my alley. I applied in November, but not for early decision, so I guess I should hear sometime in the spring? I also need to get on financial aid applications now that all my general apps are finished. . .ahhhh!

Irish studies looks pretty interesting. I was interested in doing that, but I chose a different minor. They offer classes for it every semester usually. I believe there might stil be an Irish club. I really want to learn Gaelic. I never had time to join that club though. OR any club for that matter.
You can do FAFSA online, my dad does that every year. That info goes to each school you app for, and they decide how much they will help you with the expected family contribution I think. Fordham was one of the most epensive schools I applied to, and they gae me the most aid. Hence, I am here, yay, not in Syracuse, which came in second.
I have my FAFSA almosy completely ready. I'm just worried that my family makes too much money to qualify for much! My parents say they'll only pay for about the cost of a state university tuition (about half of all the schools to which I'm applying) so I have to find it somewhere.

That sounds like they are being selfish. If you think they make too much for fed. aid, they can definitely afford a state school, but to not help you more if you get into something better? Tell them to look at it this way, the better education you want the more it will probably cost them, but the sooner you will have a better career, due to said better education, and the sooner you will be taking care of yourself. By making you have to worry about it paying, they are already putting your academic well-being and future independence at stake.

Well, they don't really have enough to pay for 4 years of private education, especially seeing as my sister is studying overseas for the next 3 years as well. They make just enough that I doubt I will qualify for FAFSA money but not enough to just pay for wherever I want to go. I've already ben offerd some financial aid from MMC and Otterbein academically and I qualify for more from the dance/theater departments. I'm also doing a bunch of independent scholarship applications so I'm going to find a way to pay for it somehow!

Ah. yea my sister and i are five years apart. she goes to college the year after i graduate lol. Fordham gave me the most aid. most of my aid is institutional from Fordham i think.

Anyone know where to eat near Utica NY. I'm here for the week for my grandmother's funeral, and my family is mostly meat and potatos types. I'm getting tired of luna bars and I'd rather not make a big fuss about my diet at a time like this.

I am not from Utica, or anywhere near it. I am so sorry for your loss though. My grandma died Dec. 2001. I still remember it.

hey belovedtree..i am from utica but moved to michigan but i am currently in utica now visiting. there are a few options here for eating out. there is an amazing indian restaurant in new hartford called the minar, and right near it is a lebonese restaurant called the phoenecian which is also very good. if you like indian food you definetly have to check out the minar. i've been there four times this past week and plan on going back before i leave for michigan! there is a japanese place in utica called the geisha II which has alot of vegetarian dishes also but it is closed until new years. there are also many chinese places and cafes that have veggie options. please email me if you want directions or more information. my email is shimmer10899@hotmail.com.
so glad to know there is another vegetarian in this area at the moment. we are hard to find around here!!

Thank you FadeAway, I didn't manage to get away to eat while I was there this time, but hopefully we'll be up quite a bit to visit my grandfather so I'll be eating at those places this spring/summer.

I am going to NYC with my dad and sister in May - I've been there before, but I was quite young, so I don't remember much, and I wasn't vegan at the time. I am wondering:
-any good hotel recommendations in a neat location?
-obviously NYC is full of vegan/veg dining, but does anyone have any favourites?
-any good vegan shopping to do?

I'd like to improve my living arrangments. I am now living with a roomate whom I get along with very well however I would prefer a vegan or vegetarian roomate. I need web sites devoted to finding veg roomates? I don't think I can afford my own apartment, by myself, in the area where I am employed, so I'll need a roomate.
Where are the good web sites to find a veg roomate? I can't find ANY vegetarians on roomates.com.
I really really don't like to have meat in my face! Now that I have decent employment I'm hoping I can find a veg to share with.
Yes, I have no serious problems getting along with my current roomate. I'm sure he will be a good reference, when I choose to move.

Pre-VeBoCon will be in NYC in less than two weeks! Some of us will be in the city August 6-9, and we'd like to meet lots of amazing VBers, especially local people who can show us around. PM me to give me your name and cell phone number, and we'll work out the details.

You know what VeBoCon is? VeggieBoardsConvention/Gathering? Check out the thread in Community Assistance. VeBoCon is happening in Boston in two weeks, and before some of us go there, we're going to NYC. Ergo, it is pre-VeBoCon.
