An homage to flesh-eating. Almost everything has some kind of mock meat in it.

We're going into the city for a show next weekend and wanted to make sure we chose the best restaurant. We did internet research and were torn between a few places. We decided after we asked a local vegan restaurant owner his favorite. He has been to them all and says without a doubt, Vegetarian's Paradise is the place to go. I can't wait! I think I may be more excited for the food than the show!:lick:

I am going to the city next weekend also and can't wait to eat! :)
My plan is Candle 79 Thursday night (already made reservations for the second floor next to a window), GOBO Friday Night (I heard many good things about this place& it comes highly recommended by Danielle, owner of Vegan treats) and Vegetarian Paradise Sat. Night or the Candle Cafe on 3rd ave.
I have never been to Gobo or Veg. Paradise so I hope i am not dissapointed or I WILL HAVE TO GO BACK AND TRY OUT OTHER UNTIL I GET IT RIGHT! :hamster: :nana:
Here is a great site I found http://www.menupages.com/restaurants.asp?areaid=0&cuisineid=68&neighborhoodId=0
So if you see a guyn walking around with Exercise 4 Everybody.com on the back of his jacket - THAT IS ME :) ALWAYS marketing no maatter where I am at :)

Thanks for the link Barry. If you go to VP let me know what you ordered. I'm going tomorrow. There are four of us going, so I'm sure there will be many menu items to sample. I'll let you know how we liked it. :D

Well, VP was AMAZING! I would say it's not to be missed. I had the Peking Ribs, my hsband had Buddah's Delight, my son had BBQ ribs and his friend had the mango chicken. For appitizers we has steamed veggi dumplings, rice balls and crispy soul chicken. We also had the hot and sour soup. So hears what we thought....
My husband said his dish was very good, but nothing special, a basic veggie stir fry, but very tastey. Mine was HEAVENLY and the same goes for the boys' dishes. So very good! The soup was very good, but nothing special and the same goes for the dumplings. The rice balls were super good!!!! The crispy chicken was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!
Btw...
After we ate, we went to see Avenue Q. THAT is a FUNNY show! We loved it! It was very vulgar (think puppet porn) and I would NOT recommend bringing children at all. My son is 16 and I was horrified watching it with him. Besides that, for me, I found it to be very smart and funny; a great performance. Has anyone else seen it?

Well, Barry, since you asked! Next door to VP is Red Bamboo (they are related) and I hear they have the most amazing desserts! We had to rush off the the show, so I missed out. That would have been a real treat. I NEVER eat desserts and I would have liked to indulge a little. Oh well. If you happen to be up for dessert after VP, maybe you could check it out in my honor!
Also, could you give us a review on GOBO and C79? I know you will LOVE VP! Have fun!!!!!:bobo:

Ah HA!..Guess who's desserts those are at Red Bambo? My buddy Danielles from Vegan Treats! They are absolutely awesome.
As far as C79 I have been there many times. C79 is much more upscale then Candle Cafe on 3rd Ave & 73rd st. C79 has a fabulous menu, but not as much as CC on 73rd. Whichever you choose, YOU CANNOT GO WRONG! The staff is great and Joy & Bart are usually hanging out at one of them. THey are great people!
Since you asked nicely, I will get (eat) two desserts for you. You deserve it!
Review of GOBO will be next week. They come highly recommended by Danielle.

Well, back from NY city 100 pounds heavier!
The convention was awesome. Which I knew it would be.
More importantly, the food!
We ate (meat eating friend - but not a big meat eater) at Candle Cafe the first day for lunch. AWESOME - as usual. Then the SAME night we went to Candle 79. Again, AWESOME in a very nice atmosphere. I have been to both of these places before, so the great food and EXCELLENT service was expected. I truly believe their service is the best in the city.
Friday night - GOBO. FABULOUS also.
Saturday night - Dragon Fly - Dragin Fly has items for the meat eater, vegetarian and vegan. It is a bar/restaurant type atmosphere. The bar is seperated from the dining room with a wall that has a beautiful aquarium in it. So you will not feel like you are at the bar. Very nice and very pleasant employees and SUPER FAST SERVICE!
LOL LOL LOL LOL LISTEN TO THIS!
After Dragon Fly we walked up to Red Bamboo because I knew that they had Danielle's (Vegan Treats) desserts there. I ordered 3 desserts that myself and my friends could all split. So, bought them and left, took a 20 10-12 minute taxi ride back to the Marriott Marqui, went up to our 10th floor room. FIRST, thing I did was open the bag and break ou the desserts - BUT I FROZE! The girls thought something was wrong - AND THEY WERE RIGHT!
I thought my heart fell to the floor!
Why? - you may be asking......BECAUSE THEY WERE ONLY SLICES!
LOL LOL LOL LOL
I am used to the whole (mine) pie or cake straight from Vegan Treats. When you go to Vegan Treats they do not sell by the piece, they sell by the whole cake/pie. She does have large/regular style pies and cakes and minis. I get a BUNCH of th minis! So, now you can imagine my surprise when I opened up my goodies and I had only a MORSEL of what i am used to.
So, any of these restaurants are fabulous and my instructors who I took LOVED the food and said they NEVER imagined that our food could be soooo good!

Hey New Yorkers,
I'm moving to Hoboken NJ next month, (Not quite NYC but as close as I can afford.) Forgive me for not reading all 35 pages of this thread for this info, but I want to ask you where your favorite veggie eats are in the city. I can't wait until I am a path train ride away from it all!

Where are you moving from? Are you in NJ now? Red Bank (exit 109) has Down To Earth. That is my favorite Jersey place. Red Bank in general is awesome! :D

Well...VP is one that I chose not to go to. I think I put a post up somewhere as to why, but I will explain quickly.
I called to make a reservation and the person that answered was a B&*ch with a CAPITOL B! I wol dnot believe they way she spoke to me. They do not take reservations, WHICH I DID NOT KNOW, and was very cocky and arogant with me.
Like I metioned in my thread, I have no toleranc for that. I could care less why she was like that. If she was having a bad day, someone else treated her like poo..whatever the case..IT IS NOT MY PROBLEM. I work to hard and long everyday to have someone treat me like that when I AM CALLING TO GIVE THEM BUSINESS! Trust me, when I go to a restaurant that has what I like, they get ALOT of money from me. VP was not going to get anything from me. I am sure their food is good, but I will never know. There is too much competition around to settle for them.
Dragon Fly was absoultely awesome!
