I was just up in Albany last night and had dinner at Bombers. It's a burrito bar on Lark St (just down the street from Shades of Green, actually). They're very veg friendly -- had a BBQ "chicken" burrito, had to share it with my sister, they're HUGE. It was quite yummy.
Just wanted to throw that out there for all you upstaters!

I viewed that place when I was up there a month or so ago. (I went to Shades of Green)
Any suggestions for health food stores in general?

There's the Honest Weight Food Co-op. (I'm not allowed to post their link cause I'm not up to 10 posts yet, but you can find their site if you do a search). They're on Central Ave. And if you feel like traveling to Latham, I know there's a good one on Rt. 9 by Hoffman's Playland, but I can't remember the name.

for those here who live in Western New York, this is a newly forming group to put WNY ( Esp. Buffalo) area veg people in touch with each other and cover local topics. There is a huge need for such a group in this area and maybe we can grow this group and make it a great way to find support, build friendships and share news.

Please visit, and help this group grow!

Last weekend I was visiting an omni friend of mine in NYC. I was also thinking about Jes, Rabid Child and the rest of the gang, though.

Well shoot if we had some veg restaurants up here, Jes, I'd suggest a meetup! North Salem is basically my back yard.

One of the former owners of the Veg City Diner has opened another vegetarian diner in NYC. It's called Curly's Lunch, and it's at 328 E. 14th St between 1st and 2nd Aves. They have the same great vegan desserts as Veg City did. I haven't been there yet, but plan on it soon.

Thanks for posting that! I was seriously pissed when VCD disappeared. Red Bamboo has become my new favorite veg restaurant, but I'll have to try this new place next time I'm in the city.

If you can only visit one veggie place and you have some cash to spend I'd hit up Candle 79, located at 79th street and Lexington Ave. It's all vegan & organic and some of the best food I've ever eaten. I've been there with non-veggies and they've all had a great experience and they LOVE the seitan. If you want something a little less expensive, Candle Cafe (maybe 75th and 3rd) is decent as well. My personal favorite is Red Bamboo, on 4th street in the village. I've never visited mooshoes, but it looks like they're on the lower east side, at 152 Allen Street.
Have fun in the city!
