Well come check us out here: http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=30188
and hopefully you can come out for lunch with us!
dreyzz, please stop spamming our board with your site. This makes three mentions so far. I think that is more than enough. If I see more, I will start deleting them. I hope you get some helpful responses, and welcome you to VB despite my stern mod post. :hi:

All NYers aware that we are getting together THIS COMING SUNDAY January 16, 2005? Thread is in the Veggie Patch, but there was some confusion last time, so I don't want anyone to feel left out or anything.

I would like to plan a three day weekend to New York.
I haven't been there since I was a kid.
Aside from the museums, what are the "must see" sites?
How much should I expect to pay for a clean hotel room in a safe neighborhood near the good sites?
Any tips appreciated.

There aren't too many dangerous neighborhoods in NYC anymore. Its all pretty safe. You can generally expect to pay no less than $150/night, though sometimes you can get decent package deals for things.
What sort of things are you interested in? If the weather is fair, Central Park is nice to walk around in. I like going down to the village and checking out the used cd shops and other strange things. Times Square is a touristy sort of thing. If you get up early, you can stand in like at the TKTS booth in Times Square and get some cheap tix to a show.

For reasonably priced hotel rooms, go to www.priceline.com, www.orbitz.com, www.hotwire.com, etc.
There's tons of deals..you just have to look.
I've stayed in rooms that originally cost over $150, and only paid $45.

I'll be visiting New York this June for my graduation ceremony at Lincoln Center and I would like some advice advice. First, we are planning on renting a motor home for 4-5 adults and one dog. If anyone knows any camping grounds that are kinda nearby and have reletively easy access to trains or other public transportation. I also need some info about restaurants that serve both veggie and non-veggie foods. My stick-in-the-mud dad, preferes "normal American food" (chuck of dead flesh with salad, etc.) or Italian. I would also need to board my dog for a day or so, if anyone could recommend a place that would also help. Thank you. Also we wouldn't mind staying in New Jersey if needed.

Hello Fellow NYers :)
I live in Westchester. A fine example of suburbia!! Great veg*n chinese place in Port Chester tho if anyone is in the area, Green Symphony... its right off I95.. mmm...
Unfortunately, they lost their lease in October 2004. This wast the one true bastion for Vegans in Westchester! They say that they are looking for a new place. I encourage all Westchester and CT veg's to go to their website (http://www.greensymphony.net) and e-mail them. Let them know that we are out there, and that we want them back! They were not only Vegan, but Kosher, and Erastas. It has been a great loss to the community.

Anyone know of any veg friendly dining places in the Albany area? I'll be up there this weekend (as well as moving there this summer) and probably should eat at some point. :P
Rabid Child: Shades Of Green (in Albany) is great! Salad platters, soups, juices, sandwiches, quesadillas, various entrees, specials...
It's a little restaurant near the center of town (Lark St and Washington Ave). The cuisine is a mix of Latin-American, Asian, and just plain good food. They even have a lot of good vegan selections- I'd say 50% of the items are vegan. Prices are quite reasonable. It's one of the few places where I actually have to make up my mind what to order, because I'm not narrowed down to a very few acceptable options.
I don't know if "Ribbon Grass" is still open- they were a few blocks up Western Avenue.
In that same neighborhood there are 3 Indian restaurants ("Gandhi", "Shalimar", "Tandoor Palace"), a Middle Eastern restaurant (Mamoun's), and several others. But they don't have such a wide selection, and if you're strict vegan, even those options might be limited... I'm not sure if the Indian restaurants use ghee in their veg selections.
I don't eat out that much, though.

Thanks Tom! :) I saw Shades of green listed on vegdining but I didn't what sort of a place it was... I'll actually be staying on Washington Ave so I should be able to find it!
I'm not a fan of indian food, and my vegan tendencies are goofy... so I'm an interesting one to feed ;)

Haha sorry. I can't even stand the smell of curry, and anything heavily seasoned makes me quite ill.
But look at it this way -- more for you!

Hi everybody. New here. I live in northern Westchester and work in White Plains. I know there are a few other Westchester-ites here... :) I figured that reading just one message board (Phish oriented) while pretending to be working wasn't enough, so I thought I'd check this one out as well.

What are you going back to school for? I was looking at U Albany for school psych and social work. (didn't do either!).
I think we need another NY gathering!
