I LOVE Flying Star!!!!!!!!! My mom and I went there the other night for dinner. I had some pasta thing. I don't remember what it was called but it was really good.

So, it's been a while since anyone's posted. How is everyone? I am watching "Whale Rider" I watched it yesterday. It's really good.

Check out the Albuquerque Coop. The Coop is a grocery store, much like Wild Oats, Whole Foods, or Farmer's Market. The unique thing about coops, though, is that they are owned by the community (us) and you get part of the ownership with a yearly membership fee (currently $12). Whenever the Coop makes a profit, you earn a return on that profit porportional to the amount of money you spent at the Coop for that year. The Coop features a lot of products from local sellers, such as locally grown produce or local brands, such as Blue Sky. This has the effect of supporting our local businesses, and providing produce that has not been shipped long distances. (You will, out of necessity, find products there that are not local, however.) The Coop has regular meetings which all Coop members are welcome to attend. As owners of the company, we have a say in how the stores are run.

(By the way, I think the location on Candelaria and Rio Grande has the coolest employees. The web site has highlighted that it is one of our main concerns to give these employees "livable wages.")

I have been to a couple coops, they are really cool. My mom shops there all the time.

albuquerque, northeast heights here...though i like to think of us as north campus area. lol another good organic alternative is los poblanos organics or erda. they're both local csa's that charge a fee for a weekly harvest box. we love los poblanos...hi fellow nuevo mexicanos...

I like New Mexico. All the snow we got yesterday gave us a snow day today. YAY!!

I'd like it so much better if I did not have a leaky roof and people here knew how to drive in it. Last night was so pretty though! I love the magical glow of winter on a snowy night!

Last night was frickin' COLD! My mom and I went and saw Spanglish. It was a good movie. But it was cold. No snow day today. :( :tired: I am sooooooooo tired right now. I need a nice nap.

Finally, the weather is starting to perk up. Hear the birds chirping, see the grass growing. New Mexico is so nice in the summer. I love all the flowers growing everywhere. :bobo: :vebo: And all the baby animals are soooooooo cute! :sheep: :sheep:

Of course most restaurants here in Albuquerque know a little about preparing vegetarian and vegan dishes, but there is a place I would love to recommend for a quick lunch:

Santa Fe Peppers, located at Montgomery and The Suites@25 (near Singer), while *NOT* traditional New Mexican food will make vegetarian or vegan burritos that include brown rice, black or pinto beans, guacamole, a variety of salsas, etc, etc., etc.

It is owned by a vegetarian couple who are very cool. They do serve meat, but at least they are knowledgable enough about your diet not to serve you meat.

I will be in Santa Fe for a yoga & art retreat in Nov and I'm exited. It's my first time there. I'm hoping the places we eat at have plenty of vegan options.

Hey there residents of New Mexico! I'm helping a 5th grader with her state report, and I was wondering if anyone has any local photos, brochures, magazine/newspaper articles, or other NM-related stuff they would be willing to mail to California. We've already requested some sort of publication from the tourist bureau, but she could probably a few other items to put in the report. (It's supposed to include a chart, graph or map, so state-related data (population, temperatures or ?) would really be helpful.

I'd be happy to send you something in return, just let me know items from California you'd be interested in. Thanks for any assistance with this!

It's an ABC-style report, where each page highlights some important fact about the state that starts with a different letter of the alphabet. (By the way, my deepest thanks go to whoever is responsible for having the X Prize Cup in New Mexico!) :)

I'm in Clovis (by Cannon AFB) if you could think of anything she might want/need from here. Anyone know of any good places for food/organic fruits and veggies around here? The closest I seem to have found is a few little stores in Lubbock. Nice little drive, but, kinda boring and they don't have all that I am looking for. I've even looked into mail-order, but noone seems to do it to small town usa.

Does anyone have any idea what is behind the NM state motto? Crescit Eundo (It Grows As It Goes)?!? Is there some background story, or even an explanation of what "it" is? :confused:

STATE MOTTO:The New Mexico state motto was first used in 1882, when acting Territorial Secretary, William G. Ritch, added the Latin phrase Crescit Eundo to an early 1860's version of the territorial seal. In 1887, Ritch's version of the seal, including the words Crescit Eundo, was adopted by the legislature as part of the official New Mexico Territory seal and coat of arms.

When New Mexico became a state in 1912, the Legislature appointed a commission to settle on a design for an official "state" seal. As it turned out, the seal recommended by the commission and adopted by the Legislature was almost identical to the territorial seal and included the words Crescit Eundo.

The Latin phrase, Crescit Eundo, can be translated as "Increases as it goes" or, more commonly as New Mexico's motto, "Grows as it goes."

The phrase is taken from Book VI of Lucretius' epic scientific poem De rerum natura, (On the Nature of Things).

The coat of arms of the state shall be the Mexican eagle grasping a serpent in its beak, the cactus in its talons, shielded by the American eagle with outspread wings, and grasping arrows in its talons; the date 1912 under the eagles and, on a scroll, the motto: "Crescit Eundo." The great seal of the state shall be a disc bearing the coat of arms and having around the edge the words "Great Seal of the State of New Mexico."

I'm sure you have allready looked it up and found that though it's all I have. I heard that they are trying to change it bc they see it as an embarrasment to be put on the state quarter. i like it and agree with the woman who said that it means that there is always "room" to expand our hopes and future. If you've ever been to our area of NM you would understand. my hubby and i wondered the same thing, so we looked it up.
