I'm a member of a sorta newish Yahoo group for NJ vegan families: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NJVeganFamilies/
We had one potluck picnic in August at a park in Union County and had a great time. We are tentatively planning our next even for October in South Jersey. The kids love meeting up with other veggy kids as do the parents. All are invited so if you have vegetarian or vegan kids, please join!
BTW: The photo on the front page of that site are my kids, Ben & Sarah. It was taken while we were at a local Shop-Rite protesting against Proctor & Gamble and handing out cruelty-free shopping guides along with vegan literature.
:bobo:
cool, where is this at and when it it planned to be? i joined the group. You all are welcome to come to our small veggie bbq on sept 25th/sunday!

Hey all!! I live in Cherry Hill, NJ (South Jersey) only 15 min. from philadelphia. I'm sooo bummed. I went to the Singapore restaurant in Cherry Hill only to find out that they closed and there is now a Thai restaurant :wall: .
This past friday I wanted to try another vegetarian called Evergreen on Rt 70, cherry hill and that one was also closed.... what's going on????
We ended up in a regular chinesse restaurant in cherry hill, that luckily had 3 mock meat dishes. I had mock honey pork, which was really good.
I wish there was a vegetarian restaurant in south jersey. Do you know any?
Thanks,
carla

I don't know about South Jersey, but Down to Earth (http://www.downtoearthnj.com/) is reputed to be a really good one about 1 hour 1/2 away.
That's the one I want to check out when willing to make a drive.

Down to Earth is very good. Their dinner menu is much better than their lunch menu though. Excellent desserts and nice atmosphere. It gets crowded so make a reservation. Kaya's Kitchen ( www.kayaskitchen.com )is in Belmar, about 10 miles from Down to Earth, also a fantastic veg*n restaurant. You could conceivably have lunch at Kayas then go for a walk on the beach then hit Down to Earth for dinner.

hahahhaahah i live in jersey too.
I live in Clementon at the moment. Singapore closed almost a year ago, the one in Philadelphia is still open. Its still the same owner for the thai place but that doesnt matter much in the end.
Evergreen closed years ago which makes me wonder how you found out about it. It was replaced with Asian Delights (same owner) that made it a run of the mill asian resteraunt with a seperate vegetarian section on th emenu and then that was replaced with a sushi bar I think.
There is a place in Maple Shade called Hing Far that was one of the first to have gluten meats. Worth checking out. They have a seperate section for the vegetarian stuff on the menu.
Tau Yuan on springdale rd makes one dish called triple green with tofu which is really, really good. They also have vegetable egg rolls and their chinese pizza is one of the best.
Also the hot bar & salad bar at whole foods supermarket in Marlton shouldnt be underestimated either. It sometimes can be amazing for vegetarians.
Other than those there isnt much else in that area that isnt generic (that doesnt mean they wont have something vegetarian...just very few things that are common stuff).
Philadelphia has a lot of places but I am assuming you dont want the aggravation of narrow one way streets, parallel parking and bridge traffic/tolls.
Singapore was the greatest, I was a bit upset when that closed too. 154 item all vegetarian menu and all good.

I guess I should start posting here as I won't be moving to Oregon.:|
Basil T's in Tom's River is very veg friendly, esp. if your lacto. two vegan dishes and vegan beer:up: . the Basil T's in Red bank is not veg friendly at all. the Grind in Pt pleasant has an extensive build your own wrap menu with Boca, gardenburgers and hummus available, but only open thru lunch.
Hey, Did they decide on the new slogan yet? I liked "NJ: Big Fun, Big Hair,Big Hearts"

Veggie Heaven in Parsippany is really great for anyone up North.
Vegan Seitan dishes. Tastes pretty close to the real thing.

Now, am I the only one with guts enough to admit I live in New Jersey, or is this really hell on earth and I'm the only vegan? I should have stayed in California!
i am originally from Cape May, which is a beautiful wonderful place. i am only recently from Savannah, which is also a beautiful place. i've been lucky so far. the jersey shore is great :)

There's also a Veggie Heaven in Teaneck and Montclair. They have somewhat similar menus but different atmospheres and some different menu selections. Parsippany is my favorite though.

Since I go to Monmouth University, I want to see Bruce Springsteen's summer home. I know he has one in the area...perhaps in Deal. Does anyone know exactly where it is? I am tired of guessing. Sorry if this is random. But, I know a lot of people on here are music buffs. :) Thanks!
Its rumson...I'm not sure where though
Its in the shopping center at the intersection of greentree rd and springdale rd. Phone is 751-5111 I think.

There are a few Jersey groups that get together regularly or fairly regularly:
http://www.cjvg.org/, Central Jersey Vegan Group
http://www.all-creatures.org/gcm/scriptures.html, this is a Christian-based animal rights/vegan group.
http://www.vssj.com/, Vegetarian Society of South Jersey
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NJVeganFamilies/, for those with vegan/vegetarian children-they have get togethers every few months. This group has been invaluable for me and my family. I love seeing my kids interacting with other vegan children.
and http://www.nj-ara.org/, NJARA (NJ Animal Rights Alliance) has fundraising events a few times a year and are a wonderful organization that has done heaps for NJ animals.
