It would take a long time, and yes there are many boardwalks. If you're plannign on ever visiting the shore I would suggest Wildwood, its my favorite. In terms of a town/beach, suprisingly, atlantic city is filthy, crime ridden and not very nice.

I've heard that about Atlantic City. I don't believe I'd want to go there. I'd just like to sit by the ocean and listen and watch. Just sit and let the world pass me by. I'd bring my paints and sketch pad too. It would be wonderful! I'd get one of those big floppy beach hats like you see in the movies. I'd probably take someone really close to me with me or I'd go it alone..haven't decided yet.

I don't know how long it would take from Northern Ohio, but it took me about 12 hours to drive to see my sister who lives near Cincinnati. As far as beaches go, I would also suggest Wildwood (it's about 40 miles south of Atlantic City). Their beach is huge, and it's free. I think their boardwalk is about a mile long. If you're vegetarian, you'll do okay for eating with pizza and stuff, but if you're vegan, good luck. Same with all the boardwalks in NJ....they all pretty much have the same kind of food (burgers, cheesesteaks, ice cream, etc.).

I absolutely LOVE the vegan pizza at Gianna's. I believe they make their own vegan cheese, and it is out of this world. Their vegan cheesesteaks & eggplant parms are good also. I heard that the Singapore in Cherry Hill is going to start serving meat .

I hadnt heard that yet and havent seen any signs or advertisements. Actually it doesnt make any sense since the resteraunt name has vegetarian in it. Unless of the owner is selling the Cherry Hill one to someone else.
Anyhow its still one of the greatest places Ive been too, over 150 vegetarian menu items and I have yet to be disappointed. Id still go there. Plus its only 10 minutes from where I live. :)

I went down to AC for the first time last summer. It is crappy! Don't bother. If casino glitz is what you want, just go to Las Vegas, which is much nicer and tons of stuff to do.

The last time a veggie place in NJ started serving meat they ended up closing down. So we'll see what happens in this case. You're lucky you have a place only 10 minutes from you....I hope what I heard about them isn't true.

Definitely! AC is the pits IMO.....Vegas is the best. I'd rather take the 5 hour plane ride to go to Vegas than the 2 hour car ride for AC anyday (as if I have that kind of money anyway :p).

They probably were already on the way out if they resorted to serving meat.
What place was it?
There was a place called Evergreen that was also near me that lasted a few years, closed down and came back as "Asian Delights". They then served a regular Japanese/Asian menu with a small veg section on it. This incarnation lasted less than a year. Now its just a plain Sushi Bar. I expect it wont be around nearly as long.

I can't remember the name but it was a town near Parsippany. You might be right about them being on the way out beforehand because there was already a popular vegan chinese restaurant in Parsipanny when they opened, so I guess they were too close to each other to be able to sustain a big following. I was at Evergreen once, shortly before they closed. I hate when these places close since there's already too few veg places in NJ (considering there's more in NYC than in our whole state).

Greetings from another NJ person -- I live in Morris County. I think the restaurant you're trying to remember was in Lake Hiawatha, but I'm not totally positive. I've been to Veggie Heaven in Parsippany, btw -- not bad but some of the dishes seem to be a little sweet. There's also a restaurant in Denville, Metro Cafe. Although it is not strictly a veg place, they had quite a number of vegetarian and vegan dishes the last time I was there (admittedly quite a while ago). Recently returned from a trip out to L.A., visiting my eldest son. Now there's a veg friendly town...

Sorry to keep going back and forth on this but from what I gather they have now decided to stay vegetarian. Hopefully permanently.

You're right, it was Lake Hiawatha. I like Veggie Heaven but there's only so much Chinese food I can deal with on a regular basis. I've heard L.A. is veg friendly. But thank god we have NYC nearby. Have you been to Red Bamboo in the Village? It's so good. A new vegan place opened in Brooklyn yesterday....I'm probably gonna check it out this weekend.

My wife and I are from Jersey City.
Lots of good Indian Vegetarian restaurants downtown near "Little Bombay"
Some 100% vegan.

Yes, I totally agree with you about Chinese food. Thanks for the recommendation of Red Bamboo. I'll certainly give it a try when I'm in the city. Wish there were more places right here in NJ though. Of course, it sure is better for my budget to bring lunch when I go to work and with finances a bit tight we don't go out to dinner much any more.
BTW, your kitty is just adorable! I'm counting the days until I'll be able to adopt again. We used to have a couple of outdoor cats years ago, but when they passed away (at far too young of an age, IMHO) I decided not to get another unless I could keep her inside. This was something of a problem due to my son's allergy and my husband stubbornly insisting that the cat would be miserable indoors.
But I'm happy to say that son Thomas is nowhere near as sensitive as he once was - and will be leaving for college in the Fall anyway -- and spending time with our other son's indoor-only cat (a very sweet, happy and well-adjusted kitty) has convinced my husband that keeping a feline inside is O.K. I'm holding off going to the shelter until we've moved into our new place (currently trying to sell and might have to rent for a while), but I can't wait 'till I can bring home a dear new companion. :-)

Gail

I live in central NJ too.... Ive been to the
Golden Teapot A+ a little on expensive side though
Singapore in Cherry hill A
Ghinnis Grill in philly, pa A
Ghinnis i would think id really have a craving for more than both of the other two being its all meatless american food and not chinese type foods. My g/f ate the chicken parm steak sandwich and she thought it was ok but i guess she has to get used to the taste, i thought it was great. She liked both vegan cakes she tried. I had fake meat pizza slices and bbq fakechicken pizza which was awesome too. my buddy that is a meat eater only had pizza with fake pepperonis, i told him after i started eating my "mockchicken" that it wasnt real and he was suprised, he ate it anyway without complaint... said and done was over $20 for all the food lol

I don't know if you're vegan, but if you are keep in mind that Gianna's recently found out that the cheese they've been using on their pizza isn't vegan. They're switching to another non-vegan cheese. I haven't gotten to the Golden Teapot yet. Someday....it's quite a distance for me. Today I'm going to my new favorite place, Foodswings in Brooklyn (www.foodswings.net). It's vegan fast food, and it's out of this world (and cheap, too :).

That's great that you'll be adopting a shelter kitty. I used to volunteer at a shelter (that's how I ended up with a full house :p). If you go to Red Bamboo, try the Soul "Chicken" Sandwich, the buffalo wings, and the vegan chocolate-covered strawberry shortcake. Good stuff :lick:.

Well it looks like they sold out, they had the non-vegetarian menu out. It wasnt there Mother's day so it must have been a very recent change. blech.

That sucks. Do they still have alot of veggie food? Not that I would ever go there again now that they decided to add dead animals to their menu, but I'm just curious.

Oh no, not that bad of a sellout. They just had a small paper "meat" menu they gave with the usual 154 item vegetarian menu.
Sort of like a reverse regular Chinese place that has a square box of 5 veg items in it.
The Cherry Hill location is no longer Kosher either. I'm not sure whats up with that, the Philadelphia is still Kosher. I dont know if the one in Philadelphia also has a meat menu.
