Sally,
I'll be there after work! Can't wait :)
Does anyone know of a good coffee shop in St. Paul to host a group gathering? I'm looking for a place to host my Arbonne meetings that is near a bus line, plenty of parking, vegan friendly, and somewhat nice...somewhere people in business casual attire would fit in. I think this may be a tough task...

If any Minnesotans still frequent this thread, this is your lucky day because I am here now! Just kidding, but seriously, I am Minneapolis raised and currently reside in St. Paul, and I am glad to have found a thread just for Minnesota veggies. I sometimes feel like I am the only vegan in the Twin Cities, as most of the people I know and come across are dyed-in-the-wool meat and potato folks. I love that we have so many vegan-friendly restaurants, but I think we are past-due for a few more all-vegan joints. Ecopolitan is wonderful, but it is definitely NOT the place to bring your non-veggie friends in an attempt to convert them. I get so jealous when reading on vegguide.org about all of the vegan restaurants in other cities. If I wasn't in college and planning on going to graduate school I would totally try to open my own!
It *is* my lucky day. I talk to myself a lot in here, so it's nice to have company. :p
PETA DEMO TODAY!
Nicollett Ave & 7th St.
12 noon
WED- Jan. 18th. The demo is a live reenactment of our "body parts" poster ad orginally featuring traci bingham. An activist will have her body painted like butcher's diagram. We're doing this in Minneapolis to coincide with the Minneasota Pork Congress taking place the same day. We'll also be showing Chew on This on a body screen televison.
I'll be there!! :pibo:

I saw that! I still need to make it over there!
The reporter who did the story on Fast and Furless wants to tag along for one of our veg dine-outs. Please contact me if you want to be on the list to get an e-vite. I haven't planned the event yet, but will do so for Feb. very soon.
Our dine-out is coming up this week! It would be great to see some VBers there!!
We're going to Udupi cafe. Please send me your email address if you'd like to get the e-vite.
By the way, if anyone ever reads the IL thread, notice how the VBers have joined their local veg meetup group and they are *always* dining out and posting pictures. Don't you agree that we should do that too? :p

I don't know that I'll actually be at the banquet- but I'm am going to help with the cooking from 5-8:30 tomorrow night.
I admittedly don't do much with CAA, anymore. I was a bit more involved a few years back. I'm just too busy with school, work, and my volunteer work at Planned Parenthood. I do like to help out when I have the time, though!

Anyone from Duluth? I live in Superior now, but I have lived in Duluth as well as Minneapolis (Wedge/Uptown). SallyK, check the Wisconsin if you haven't already! :D
Stellar26, I waved at someone who looked like you at the banquet...was that you? Oh my, the food was delicious!
THX-1138, saw your post in the WI thread and your intro. I do recall being graced with your presence last spring at one of our Galactic Pizza dine outs. :D

So were you there? I didn't see you. You probably saw me, or heard me rather, I was the one who asked him the question about the Great Ape Project.

I'm in Illinois, but originally from MN and have family there. Anyway, wish I could have gone to the Peter Singer lecture. I bet it was great. Also, Singer had a great op-ed on 3/21/06 in the Minnesota Daily (mndaily com)
Also, I just want to mention that PETA will be in Minneapolis next weekend (4/1-4/2) doing a Helping Animals 101 conference. For anyone interested in doing their part to alleviate animal suffering, I strongly recommend this conference. I attended one in Chicago last year. I had been vegetarian for 12 years and had recently switched to veganism and felt like I wouldn't learn much. I was very wrong. It was a great experience, the vegan food was delicious, and it was just such wonderful energy being surround by others who get it. Also, it's a good opportunity to put human faces to the PETA image. All the staffers I talked to and all the speakers were very compassionate people who really walk the talk. I'm attending the MN conference and bringing my brother and sister-in-law and hoping it will have a positive influence on their lives since neither are veggie (yet--I can hope anyway).
They have student rates and a 2-for-1 rate for non-students. Anyway, I highly recommend this and for those who don't like PETA, I challenge you to go learn who they really are firsthand and see if your opinion of them doesn't change at least a little. You can register on-line at PETA's website. Just look for Helping Animals 101.
I really hope some of you can make it. You won't regret it!!
