Anyone been? It's in west Bloomfield and I've heard nothing but awesome things about Johnny Kest. Ever since I moved back to MI. I've had no luck finding a GOOD class that fits into both my schedule and budget.
I'm unable to post a link yet since I'm a newbie but it comes right up if you do a search : )
oh yeah and would any of you girls in the oakland county area be up for checking it out? or any other classes for that matter?

Ooohlala. I go to school in GR also! I'm at Kendall where you you at?
Hey, me too! I'm an illustration major, what are you in?
BethanY-it's probably out of your way but last summer I went to Up Dog yoga with my mother in rochester hills. The prices seemed reasonable to me.

Sweet! I'm a former Fine Arts-Photography, current VC-Multimedia major. What year are you? Are you on Facebook, if so, we should be facebook friends. One can never have too many facebook friends. This sounds lame, but I'm not, trust me. What year are you?

Try the Yoga Shelter. There is one in West Bloomfield and one opening in Royal Oak in a few days. Great classes, great community environment. The founder and lead teacher Eric Paskel is amazing. They will also let you try a week of unlimited classes for FREE!!!

xrodolfox.....I live in Maryland now, but am originally from Ann Arbor. Lived there for almost 30 years. Oh, how I miss it. The Mud Bowl, the Hash Bash, the Naked Mile, the Diag......Seva, Zingermans, and Blue Nile. Yummmmmmm.........
My husband was raised here in western Maryland/Hooterville, so taking him to The People's Republic of Ann Arbor is always a trip. It's like Mars to him! LOL
Where do you live in Ann Arbor?? I lived in various areas over the years, but spent my last 5 years there on the North Side, Earhart Rd. area.......
I missed this post when it was posted. :(
Ann Arbor does change every few years. No more Naked Mile. :( Everything else you mentioned is still around, more or less.
We do have these really great new veg*n friendly restaurants though.
This place called "Sylvio's Organic Pizza" has vegan pizza by the slice for $2. I ate $8 for a snack at 3p. Great stuff. There is also this new Chinese place that finally has decent portions and authentic Chinese (vegn friendly) food that is down the street from Borders on Liberty St.
Unfortunately, after my student days, I moved out of Ann Arbor. I work for the "U" now, so I have to commute here from Saline, which is about 20 minutes SW of A2.
Anyhow, if anyone is passing through A2, I would love to meet them for lunch. Pizza, especially :) (That goes out to you as well, IamJen)

I live in east Detroit. :)
Just to list a few super fun veg*n institutions near me:
- Lunchbox Deli on Mack in Detroit near Cadieux isn't all veg, but has a large (and tasty) menu for lacto vegetarians that can easily be modified to vegan-friendly. They have wonderful tofu and tempeh dishes, and a red bean casserole that is out of this world.
- Healy's Health Hut on Mack between 6 & 7 - a pricy but extensive HFS.
- Breadsmith, also on Mack between 6 & 7 - must be mentioned. Fabulous bread.
- Moomoo's or something like that, on Kercheval in GP Park, is solid vegetarian food (exclusively), but IMHO it doesn't come close to Lunchbox.

I will definitely have to try the Lunch Box Deli! What types of food are in the Health Hut??

yeah around here is pretty boring. ugh only 2 more months of school for me!
I know this is a shot in the dark, but does anyone know of any vegan food pantries in the Detroit Metro or Ann Arbor areas? Or, even veg-friendly ones that would let me choose food rather than have a prepackaged bag full of stuff I can't eat? Thanks in advance if you know of any.

anyone ever gone to any of the veggies in motion potlucks??

Hi Rodolfo! I live in Saline also. We just moved her last year from Ferndale. I used to live in Ann Arbor as well back in my college days.
My husband, son (20 months) and I are all vegetarian (mostly vegan). It is nice to see we aren't the only ones in Saline. :bobo: :vebo:
We eat at home all the time now, since there is absolutely nothing veg in Saline. We have to go to Ann Arbor for any decent veg food, which is hard with the baby, especially now that he is walking. We always go to Seva every New Year's Eve for their special dinner, but this year our little guy wanted to toddle around the restaurant.
I'd love to meet you in the real world someday.

If any of you are in the mid-Michigan area, there's a great little co-op in Mt. Pleasant called the Green Tree. It's got tons of great food, and the staff are so nice to us every time we go in.

Well, I think it's about a half hour from Detriot. I'm a vegan, my husband omni. Therefore, I'm looking for restaurants that are friendly to both of us. (However, if there are any good micro-breweries with just side salads, I'll be okay.)
Also, are the restaurants in the area smoke free? Neither of us care to be by smoke in a restaurant, which is why we currently really like Columbus, OH (where we live) as it is Smoke Free. There is a Smoke Free Ohio campaign going on for the Novemeber ballot, one of the reasons why I have no problem using my in-laws' address as a permanant address so I can vote absentee for that. (We're going to be in Michicgan for a year while my husband does internship, then back to Ohio for another year or two.)
Anyway, I thought that this would be as good as place as any to start. We'll be going to a large church (my husband is in seminary) and I'm fairly sure that there might be a vegetarian or two at least. Also, I've looked and found the Vegan Meetup Group as well, but I've not posted anything there.
Thanks,
Laura
