I am curious to find out of other VB'ers near Ann Arbor. I am having a hard time going through this thread to figure that out.

Perhaps a poll should've been attached...

(MODs, is it too late to attach a poll for specifics in Michigan?)

We will be in Detroit this week and Battle Creek later on. Can anyone recommend some kid friendly vegan friendly restaurants? I've searched some out on the net, but you can't tell much from words on a screen. I'd rather have the perspective of someone who's been there. I'd sure appreciate it!

I hope this isn't too late.
There aren't too many kid friendly restaurants to begin with in the Detroit area. There are even less vegan friendly restaurants.

The easiest is "SEVA" in downtown Ann Arbor. I think it is overpriced. However, it is easy for kids to find vegan food that they'll like (it is a vegetarian restaurant), and they have games and toys for kids when waiting for the meal.

If you want more adventure, there are other places that can work, like Romano's Macarroni Grill, which is a franchise in the area. If not, you can go to some Middle Eastern Restaurants in Dearborn. Downtown Detroit itself doesn't have much. You'll have to go to Ferndale for vegan food close by.

My last two years of HS were in Canton/Plymouth. I know all about that area. Did you / Do you go to school in the area?

XrodolfoX, thanks! I read your post too late, but we *did* eat at Seva in Ann Arbor. For three of us to have meals, drinks, dessert and leave a tip it came to $25. I didn't think that was too bad. It averaged less than 9 bucks a person.

xrodolfox.....I live in Maryland now, but am originally from Ann Arbor. Lived there for almost 30 years. Oh, how I miss it. The Mud Bowl, the Hash Bash, the Naked Mile, the Diag......Seva, Zingermans, and Blue Nile. Yummmmmmm.........

My husband was raised here in western Maryland/Hooterville, so taking him to The People's Republic of Ann Arbor is always a trip. It's like Mars to him! LOL

Where do you live in Ann Arbor?? I lived in various areas over the years, but spent my last 5 years there on the North Side, Earhart Rd. area.......

plymouth/canton people! I just graduated from there.

Mr Forslund, who may or may not be there anymore, was a vegan teacher there!

Congrats on graduating. I am coming up on my 10th year reunion soon. ;)

Well, there's a big honking Whole Foods Market in Rochester now (Rochester Road near Avon Road), so that's an improvement. There's also a really good Indian place, the name of which I'm failing to recall that has tons of veg. option.

But, um....leaving Tuscon for Rochester?
:dizzy:

I'm in Phoenix actually, but close enough :) Yeah maybe doesn't seem the best of ideas, but I should only be there for 6 months or so. I'll be heading to Iowa to finish up college after I leave MI. The school I'm gonna go to has a great Environmental Science program that I will be doing. And they serve all organic vegetarian foods(all of it is grown on campus or locally grown) which is freakin awesome :D

The Whole foods is on Walton near Livernois, across from Rochester high school. That place is great, I'm going there this afternoon to stock up before heading back to school in GR.

Also, Is the Indian place you're talking about Rangoli's? I've never been but I've heard great things.

I hope you enjoy your stay in rochester, Brendan

another michigander here!

i'm wondering if this is the right place to post this, but i'm looking for schools in the area (or even distance learning? but prefer not) re: holistic health/diet & nutrition, etc. the only thing i'm able to find only is blue heron academy, which seems decent but i can't find any *real* info on this, if you know what i mean. anyone?

i'm in walled lake, btw. moved back here from cali last winter. yeah, GREAT time to head back east : p

I'm in Livonia. I love Trader Joes and Whole Foods, although WF is a bit pricey. TJs has always been a good place for me even when I lived in California. They are building a new one in Novi! Wooohoooo! So it will be even closer to me.:nana:
