What???? Are you serious? I've run into their buffets before but I didn't realize they were scheduled!!!!! (OMG OMG!!)
I went to their buffet once when they had the fund raiser for the tsunami victims. That was amazing. The employees all donated their salaries and tips and the entire cost of the meal ($20 a person) was donated to tsunami relief. It was SOO crowded that they had to sit strangers together just to keep things rolling. You sat for 30 seconds, got up, went to the buffet a couple times, ate fast and got out the door to make room for the next people. They earned a ton of money, it was great!

i think they are thru the Boston veg society (BVS), which is why they are regularly scheduled.

:furious: So I drove all the way to Boston from Western MA and Grasshopper was closed! I even talked to them a few days ago to confirm that they were doing the buffet! I guess they were renovating their kitchen or some crap. But I made the best of the situation and went next door to TJs for some buffalo fingers and cheesecake. Later for dinner we went to Veggie Planet and I had an awesome vegan ceaser salad and this peanut noodle dish that was just perfect. So the day wasn't a total loss:p

I think that Grasshopper actually had a gas leak or something, whatever was going on in the kitchen was definately NOT planned. At least you got some tasty food at Veggie Planet!

The same thing happened to us, minus the long drive! We were working all day with the buffet at the grasshopper to be the highlight of our day, only to arrive there to find it closed! We also went to TJ's next door instead, I am guessing they got a lot of business that way!! I will forgive them though, because I know it wasn't scheduled - I also had called ahead a couple days before to confirm the buffet :P

My husband and I went to the grasshopper last night and saw a notice on the door saying "FIRE" and a health-code notice that due to the fire that the restaurant is closed. ANyone know about this? I looked in the window and I didn't see any evidence of fire damage, perhaps it was in the kitchen? I called a bit ago to see what happened but no one answered! :-(

I tried calling yesterday too but finally got them today. There was a small fire in the back, not too serious they said, but that they will not be open yet today, maybe tomorrow but that I should call first. I'm glad that it wasn't too serious!!!

Hey...I'm new here and am trying to reach and to meet more veggies in the Boston area. Perhaps we could have a group event and meet at a veggie restaraunt? Tell me what you guys think.

That vegan cooking expo sounds really fun! Is there a charge? And how do you get to North Hampton? Is that near the New Hampshire border? Thanks for the great info!

Northampton Mass is about 30 to 45 min from New Hampshire. The classes are about 3 hours long and conclude with a sit down meal. Class fee is 50.00, but discounts apply when class packages are purchased. Kid friendly classes are the same fee, but 5.00 extra per child.

I'm going up to Plymouth this upcoming week, anyone know of any veggie friendly restaurants in the area? (something other than salads preferably)
We're taking a day trip into Boston but I think it'll be easier to find veggie far there. All the hotel site lists is grills and deli's. :(
TIA!

Here's a link from the Boston vegetarian society:
http://www.bostonveg.org/restaurants/index.html
doesn't list plymouth, but I bet there are plenty of things to eat there.
There's a panera in plymouth, they have a vegetarian soup every day, and soymilk if you ask for it.

there is an indian restaurant too, if you are vegan call about if they use butter:
http://www.punjabcafe.com/Vegetarine_Entrees/vegetarine_entrees.html
Looks like there is a health food store there too:
Healthy Appetites Natural Foods - 44 Long Pond Rd., Plymouth, MA 02360. 508-747-8100. http://www.healthyappetites.com/retailer/store_templates/shell_id_1.asp?storeID=EDC577ED65CE4F4EB04AC47F85C ED9C4
You should find something there. I'd even call the health food store and ask them for suggestions.

Thank you! I'm traveling with my ILs and family so ethnic restaurants are probably out. The health food store might help at least. The hotel room has a fridge and a microwave.
Thanks again!

you'll definitely do best at italian restaurants :-) A popular restaurant which has chains around the country is Bertucci's - they have awesome pizza and pastas and their mozerella is rennet free (just make sure to mention when ordering your pizza that you don't want grated cheese on your pizza, because that DOES have rennet.) I don't know Plymouth too well myself but in the east coast you shouldn't have too much trouble finding something vegetarian to eat at most restaurants - chances are even the steakhouses have a veggie burger, just call and ask. The places you'll have the worst trouble is seafood restaurants, so either steer clear or call again to see what options they have for vegetarians (and make SURE you tell them fish and shellfish are NOT your idea of vegetarian, hehe.)
Hey I want to visit Salem in Oct. does anyone have any advice? I found a hotel already. But witch (pun intended) places are the best? Entertainment and food (vegan) wise.
