IAJ-

I may be around for part of that week, and I would think we can rally up some of the DC area troops for this. I'm not sure who on the board lives around here now; we had a veggieboards gathering a few years ago that went fairly well, but some of that group doesn't hang out here anymore. Must have been something I said.... :)

Any other DC area folks interested in meeting a VB icon (Jen, not me) that week?

Unfortunately I am about 3 hours or more (depending on traffic) away from D.C. Perhaps I can make it another time.

Hey now..icons are old, crusty folks!
<<<neither old nor crusty :)

Sorry to hear that, Sea Siren. Maybe this will be the first of many DC lunches. :D

Sorry, sorry! What if I replace 'icon' with 'phenom'? Is that sufficiently less old and crusty?

DC-area crowd: where are y'all?

Jen, where in the area will you be?

I'm staying with sis in Capitol Hill. :)

I'd be interested in meeting up over Tday wkend.

I'm in Gaithersburg, MD.

I work in Silver Spring, MD... so I can meet up in that area. Fair warning tho - I only have an hour to spare since I'll probably be working that day.

I am available either very early that week or later in the Tday weekend. I should be around Sunday; I might be back in town Saturday night but am not sure. Jen and Rani, what are your schedules like?

Jen, there aren't a lot of great veg places right in DC. Are you opposed to metroing out to the burbs a bit? The Vegetable Garden in Rockville near the White Flint stop is a fabulous place, and it's reasonably located for Rani and me.

Cool..Saturday anytime would be good (and my sis will probably join us then). The Vegetable Garden would be okay..can you get there on the Metro?

Other than Tday, I'm available all weekend so Saturday would work for me as well.

Actually I would say that there are quite a good veg eats in DC but I'm not opposed to The Vegetable Garden. It is a great place and yes Jen you can get there by metro. It's right across from the White Flint stop.

Sorry - didn't mean to hijack the choice of location. If you have a good option in DC in mind, please feel free to suggest. That might be easier for Jen, since it's not a short metro trip to White Flint from the east side of DC.

I hope to make it back by Saturday evening to be able to attend, but anyone who drives along the 95 corridor on Tday weekend knows how miserable that can be.

It looks like I probably won't be able to make it anytime during Thanksgiving week. :P Unless it's closer to me, but I doubt you want to venture too far into MD.

The next day that *might* be okay is Tuesday. I don't have to play chauffeur that day, AFAIK.

DCVeg..would Sunday would better for you? It sounds like you're going to be a bit rushed. We could do a brunch thing or dinner.

Elena..what part of MD are you in? I'm actually flying out of Baltimore on Sunday, so I'm going to be pretty far in, and that would fit with the "Sunday plan" :D

I'm in Westminster, which is about an hour... north of Baltimore? *checks map* About an hour's drive, northwest. Which isn't too bad.

Sunday could be okay. :) What do people have in mind?

Sunday would probably work better for me too. My weekend plans keep changing but hopefully I'll have Sunday clear to meet up.

For some ideas on where to go...

this is a good site for restaurants in the DC metro area http://www.vegdc.com/restaurants.php

And I just found this site for Baltimore http://www.vegetarian-restaurants.net/usa/MaryBaltimore.htm

I'll be heading towards Laurel, MD on Sunday so either DC or Baltimore should work for me.

It sounds like Sunday can work quite well. I have a slight preference for brunch, but I could do dinner as well.

It also sounds like a place between DC and Baltimore should accommodate the majority. Udupi near Silver Spring or Mango Grove in Columbia both have excellent weekend buffets, but there are plenty of terrific potential locations.

I'm heading out of town today with limited access to e-mail during the next few days, so let's try to finalize a plan soon. I am good with any location at any time Sunday. Thanks!

I won't be able to make it Sunday, either. :P

Actually, I hate to say it but it looks like I won't be able to make it on Sunday afterall. So much for a meet up. Maybe another time.

Ah..I guess we should plan on another, less busy time. :(

Does anyone have any veg-friendly dining suggestions in the Baltimore Inner Harbor area? My bf and I are meeting my family down there for my cousin's Bat Mitzvah. While I spent much of my childhood in the Baltimore area cause that's where my mom grew up and her family lives down there, it was generally at family members' homes, or with my family who knew their way around, but we're travelling further and will be down a day earlier. (Both of my siblings also attended Johns Hopkins - though my sister only for 3 semesters - I'm the odd duck ;)) We'll be staying in the inner harbor, and not much wanting to drive anywhere after the 8 hr haul down, and thus far everything I've found is like steakhouses and seafood places. It doesn't need to be veg specific, just veg friendly - though I'll take veg specific suggestions for the next night when my family can navigate! I may also email the hotel we're staying at to see if they can suggest something for when we're staying. Thanks!

RC-

There are a few options around the Inner Harbor. The food court there close to the aquarium has an Italian restaurant, a brewing company (Capitol City), and a California Pizza Kitchen - all have at least a couple of vegan options. I also remember passing an Indian restaurant within a block or two of the Harbor, but I can't give you any specific details. There is also a Whole Foods within walking distance; it's just east of the aquarium. There's a veg place over in Fells Point called Liquid Earth, and you can get there by water taxi or a long walk. I've never been, but it's supposed to be good; I think they only serve lunch.

For when you're willing to go a little further, Yabba Pot is fantastic. It's not a fancy place, but the food is excellent. It's about a 5-10 minute drive north of the Harbor. I've also eaten at Cafe Isis (aka Al Pacino's Cafe) located a healthy walk up the hill from the Harbor on Cathedral Street. They have a ton of vegan options, but be warned - they say their soy cheese for pizza is vegan, but it does contain casein. Their dips and sandwiches are great; I've had mixed results with their entrees.

About a 25 minute drive from the Harbor south on 95 is an awesome veg Indian restaurant in Columbia called Mango Grove.

There is a restaurant in Clarksville, MD called Great Sage.
I've never been there, but their menu looks very promising.

I was thinking we could meet up here and have a nice Veg*n brunch.

Who's in. I'd be driving 1 hr 40 min. but if it's going to benefit the vegetarian society and I have the possibility of meeting some new veg*n friends --- then I'm in.

Look at the menu http://www.great-sage.com/SpecialDiets.html
