Right now I live in Martinsburg, WV which is about 1 1/2 hours away from DC and about the same to from Baltimore. Basically, there is nothing to do around here. I have no vegetarian friends, there's no kind of vegetarian restaurants, "hangouts", or groups around here. I feel very desperate to meet some new people or get involved with some kinda group. Anyone from around here or have any ideas would be VERY much appreciated! :help:

If you're willing to travel a little bit, they have a lot of social events going on.

Angiedawn, I suggest planning a day trip to Baltimore. I suppose it's a bit of a hike, but in my opinion, all of the great vegetarian restaurants and such that we have here will make the visit worth your while.

Thanks Charity and girl2beaver. I will check out the site. I actually really like to travel. The only problem is that I don't like to go it alone and really I could only bring my boyfriend but he's not veg*n (although he is supportive). As far as Baltimore, I don't mind going there at all. I really like Baltimore and we were actually planning on going there a couple months ago but wound up not going b/c some money issues. I wouldn't mind going to Baltimore at all!

Charity, I checked out the www.vsdc.org and it looks like cool. Do attend any of the events? I also found an animal sanctuary that's in Shepherdstown, WV (only about 20 min away!) that needs volunteers. Thanks! :nana:

Are there any good veg*n restaurants along the Inner Harbor in Baltimore?? I think I'm going to take my bf there next weekend for his b-day and don't wanna miss out on a good opportunity.
I live in the part of Maryland that is hardly even considered part of Maryland.....the far western "handle" of the state, Garrett County. I can't count the number of times I've been traveling and met people from Maryland and when I tell them where I live they go, "Where??". LOL!! It's kinda like when I was growing up in Michigan (Ann Arbor)......we considered "Upers" (people who lived in the upper penninsula) a whole other breed, like they were from a different country rather than the same state.
There are definitely no vegetarian shops, restaurants, etc. in this area. They hunt everything from squirrels to bear up here.....every fall I chase gun-toting rednecks off our property. (my stepson gets a huge kick out of this; his tree-hugging, animal-loving, passive Buddhist stepmom chasing after several large men with large guns. LOL!)

I'm not sure. Somehow living in Baltimore makes visiting the inner harbor lose its glitter. I know there are definitely some good veg restaurants downtown, though.

LOL! I have been to that area, it reminds me of lower western PA. Just think of it as a challenge, maybe you'll influence someone....maybe. :D
It's certainly beautiful here....funny how the places that are the most naturally beautiful tend to have the least number of people who appreciate it, huh???
Angiedawn404-
If you're going to be around the Inner Harbor, check out Yabba Pot. It's not right in the Inner Harbor, but it's certainly within an acceptable distance.

Baltimore, MD
Is it within walking distance of the harbor?? Easy to find? I have *no* sense of direction.

I don't think it's in walking distance; it's probably about 30 blocks. To get there from the inner harbor, I think you take Charles St. north to St. Paul Street. On St. Paul Street, the Yabba Pot is the brightly colored restaurant on the left.

Hello all! I've been trying to find a way to connect with other veggies in the MD area, and I just found this site. I live in Columbia, half way between Baltimore and DC. Anyone ever been to the Vegetable Garden?
It's AMAZING - in Rockville though - a bit of a hike for me.
Any other veggie restaurant suggestions in the area? I'm willing to travel for good food.

I love the Yabba Pot too... anyone else a fan of Liquid Earth on Aliceanna St.? (In Fells Point)
Great Sage in Clarksville has awesome food. Organic vegetarian food with lots of vegan options. All vegan items are very clearly labeled on the menu. Plus there's Roots Market right next door with is a great place to shop.
Great Sage is excellent for sure, and there is a great veg place right in Columbia. Mango Grove is an Indian vegetarian restaurant with plenty of vegan options. It's on Dobbin Road very close to its intersection with 175.
Hey all you MD/DC/NOVA folks...
Is anyone up for dinner the week of Thanksgiving? I'm going to be in the area for awhile. :D
